Your bio checklist... ✅

It is amazing how often businesses get this so wrong. In order to communicate what you do, who you're for, and to build trust follow these 4 important rules for optimising your Instagram profile:

1. Use a clear, professional profile picture, preferably showing your face. I'm not mad on 'faceless' accounts - it is really hard to build trust. TIP: If your profile picture isn't of you, try and make sure one of your pinned posts is!

2. Your username (with the @ sign) should be your business name, but your 'Name' is searchable, and should be different. Try adding keywords, or your location, as well as your own name here.

3. Make it really clear in your bio WHAT you do and WHO you serve. There should be no confusion here. Think of this as your elevator pitch. Your top posts should then reiterate this message. If they don't match, either your content isn't on-brand enough, or your bio doesn't explain what you do well enough.

4. Add your contact info! An email address (or your preferred method of contact) should be easy to find. Seems obvious, but it would surprise you how often small businesses don't do this!

Here are four of the most common mistakes I've seen small businesses make recently...

✭ Not marketing themselves online (even though social media is FREE!)
✭ Not listening to their customers
✭ Not adapting when the market changes... 👋🏻 Hello 2020 😣
✭ Not using analytics & working out what WORKS & what doesn’t

It breaks my heart 💔 to see small businesses closing at the moment. It’s not always as straightforward as changing tack to save your business (when there are often lots of things going on behind the scenes) BUT when you are facing lots of challenges, don’t let yourself be one of them, too.

If you do one thing tomorrow to help your business, reach out to your clients on social media & ASK them how you can serve them right now. You might find they have the answer.

Who else has that one friend who when you get together and have a few glasses of wine, you can’t help LAUGHING? You tell them mundane things about your week, but end up in fits of giggles. And neither of you can resist that cheeky second glass of wine.... even when you just went out for ‘one’ 😂 😀🍷

I definitely have that friend (I’ll tag you in the comments!) 😉 I always go away from our catch ups (whether they’re on Zoom or in real life) feeling GOOD about myself as well. And there is nothing better than listening to their stories, and telling them mine.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Effective social media is the same as story telling with a friend! You want your captions to be punchy, interesting, engaging, and above all, you want the reader to go away feeling GOOD about themselves!
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
Here is a little CHALLENGE for you... read through a few of your latest captions and ask yourself:
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
1. Are they ENGAGING?
2. Are they INTERESTING?
3. Do you put READER first?
4. Would YOU go away feeling INSPIRED if you were the reader?
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
There are a few simple ways to achieve the above!

TIPS: Start with an engaging sentence (a TIP is to try and write the middle or end of your story first!) Change the point of view so it’s from the readers point of view. And ask QUESTIONS!
