God, I’m feeling unsure about what to do next. I’m hesitant about what’s to come, and I feel so unsettled in my spirit.

Please give me your strength and wisdom.

Help me to be confident as I make decisions, trusting that You are with me and guiding me.

God, it’s so hard to wait. I just want to skip ahead and I’m finding it really hard to be content in the here and now.

You know what it’s like to wait patiently. Would you please teach me how to wait?

Show me Your joy and goodness in the normal day-to-day as I wait expectantly for what’s to come.

"I don’t know what you’re facing. Maybe you’re starting this year filled with energy and fresh excitement, looking forward to what’s coming. Maybe you’ve written the lists and set the goals and so far you’re actually sticking to them.

Hello friends! We're jumping on to wish you all a hearty "Merry Christmas" from all of us here at Anxious Faith.

Whether you're doing laps in the pool to stay cool and gathering 'round the barbecue (like us) or warming your hands by a fire and watching snow fall outside (or whatever else you do in the northern hemisphere!), we hope your day is a beautiful celebration of the wondrous hope that awaits us in Jesus.

And friends
 If today is hard for you, we see you. It’s okay if this Christmas doesn’t look the way you wish it did, or if it brings up certain struggles.

Maybe, you’re grieving. Maybe, there’s sickness. Maybe you’re distant from family–emotionally or physically. Maybe you’re worried about what next year will bring.

Friend, you’re not alone. And wherever you’re at, it’s okay to feel that way.

Jesus meets us where we are.

Ecclesiastes 3 verses 1 and 4 say, “There is a time for everything, and a season for every activity under the heavens
 a time to weep and a time to laugh, a time to mourn and a time to dance
”.

If this is your season of weeping, take heart that it won’t last forever. God sees your pain, and He weeps with you.

And what a beautiful thought that is.

With Anxious Faith

Silence is hard to find. Maybe you live by a road or in an area with constant noise. Maybe your job involves constant chatter or machinery. Maybe, you’ve got kids (enough said!). Our car’s playlists are ready before we’ve looked up the destination. A show plays as we cook dinner.

Noise saturates our lives, yet shutting it out can be scary.

So, what’s the big deal? How can silence support our mental health?

SILENCE INVITES REST
Rest is hard when something weighs on us or when we’re always on the go. Silence lets us step away from what’s happening and recenter on Christ.

When we struggle with mental health, we need rest more than ever. Jesus offers rest as we quiet our minds and step away from the world’s noise. Rest through silence reminds us of where—and in Whom—our trust lies.

SILENCE HELPS US HEAR GOD
God’s voice doesn’t always come in the ways we expect.

Remember sleepovers? Once the fun died down, you got real; sharing hopes, big questions, and embarrassing secrets. Silence and stillness made room for intimacy.
We’re often so busy talking to God—which He loves—we forget to listen. God’s not (usually) going to shout over our noisy lives. He waits for us to get quiet and hear his voice. Even Jesus withdrew to quiet places (Lk 5:16). God often speaks in the intimacy of quiet places and in silence we may hear his whisper.

SILENCE SURRENDERS
Think about stories of God’s deliverance in the Old Testament: plagues, pillars of fire, walls crumbling down, seas parted
. But perhaps most interesting is what comes before these big moments. You might assume it’s instructions on how to overcome the enemy, but more often, it’s God quietly saying, “I’ve got this. Trust me.”

Just like Moses reassured the terrified Israelites, pursued by Pharoah and his army: “The Lord will fight for you, and you have only to be silent” (Ex 14:14). And then? God parted the Red Sea. Israel didn’t need to do anything but trust and escape on dry ground.

Silence helps us fully surrender, trusting God to move— even when we don’t see a way through.

“Porn addiction is not a s*x addiction. You’re using p**n as a Band-Aid over something else; whether you’re struggling with intimacy, or that’s how you cope with anger, there’s a deep wound that you’re trying to cover with p**nography — that’s just your coping mechanism.”

“We used a lot of fear tactics, which do not work. We’d say things like, if you watch p**n again, you have to pay me 
 I had to learn that God doesn’t save us through fear; He doesn’t pull us out of any darkness with fear, because there is no fear in love, and God IS love. God pulls us out of that with grace. If I’m not approaching my own healing with Christ’s grace as the centre of it, it’s not going to work out for me.”

“You have to bring [the addiction] before community, and that shame is then lifted, and then your healing can start. It feels so against everything that our flesh wants to do, but it is the one course of actual healing that you can take.”

Contrary to what many of us have grown up believing, p**n addiction is not a “guys’ issue”.

It’s a human one.

Join us as we chat to Amanda Anaestad, cofounder of The Victory Collective, a ministry centred around community and resources for women struggling with a p**n addiction.

Amanda was first exposed to p**nography by accident in middle school, and it grew into an addiction that had a hold on her for many years. She shares with us how she only ever heard of p**n being discussed as a problem for men, and how her feelings of shame and isolation stopped her from reaching out and getting help.

Because of her own experience, Amanda and her friend set out to build a community of women bravely speaking out and helping each other find healing.

We’ll hear from Amanda about her own journey and recovery, which included opening up to her now-husband about her secret struggle, as well as the importance of community and confession, and how God can—and does!—bring lasting healing to anyone who struggles with p**n.

When you hear the term “self-care”, you might think of face-masks and manicures and champagne in the bath. đŸ’…đŸ„‚

But self-care is more than just “treating ourselves” to life’s luxuries. As we practise self-care, we’re taking the time to rest, reflect and refresh; to keep our minds well.

As Christians, self-care can sound paradoxical; doesn’t Jesus call us to be selfless? But the more we look into taking care of ourselves–mind, body and spirit–the more we understand that by staying well, we can better love and serve those around us.

Did you know there's a religious type of OCD, also known as scrupulosity?

Mary was just nine when she started suffering from a religious form of obsessive compulsive disorder. It started with scary, intrusive thoughts about the devil, and crippling doubts about God and the reliability of the Bible.

"I wish I’d known that the thoughts I was having were not dangerous to my spiritual wellbeing, despite what others would tell me," Mary writes. "But because I had never heard of this condition before, I naturally assumed this was a spiritual problem."

Sadly, because of a lack of awareness of this particular form of OCD, Mary wasn’t diagnosed until she was 18. Now 22, she's sharing her story to help bring awareness to OCD in all its different forms.

In her blog post, 'I Wish I'd Known It Was Religious OCD', Mary shares with us four things she wished she knew sooner, and how through therapy and support, she's learning to overcome OCD's grip.
