Spot on.

🏡 Guys. I’m old. I’m not a tradwife because I’ve been a homemaker since before anyone was using hashtags at all. I have a loom and I bake sourdough and I can very honestly say I am a big fan of the domestic arts. And yet I agree 100% with the clip circulating of Allie giving a warning about this.

🏡 When Jesus rebuked the Pharisees for tithing their spices it was not that they were doing too much for Him, but rather they were doing too little. They were neglecting the weightier things of the law and doing showmanship holiness. Is it possible that in the tradwife internet inspiration world we could have some domestic Pharisees? Of course. Is it possible to make cheese and grind wheat in a beautiful space with a crumply linen apron with the best instagram filters and still have a stink in your heart? Indeed it is.

🏡 It is, in fact, easier to make things look good for the internet than it is to make them smell and taste and feel good to the people in your home. Why is that? Because behaving like a Christian wife and mother is not a recipe, is not a trick of lighting, and certainly is not a trend. So my concern with tradwife content is that it sets the bar too low for Christian women- not that it is setting it unrealistically high.

🏡 Do you need to make sourdough? No! Do you need to have a majestic garden? Of course not! But you ought to be doing something! Being a “tradwife” has the unfortunate sound of being an interchangeable unit of wifeyness. A virtuous wife is a Christian, then the wife of a particular man. None of this work is one size fits all or can be purchased as an accessory. The standard is in the same place as it is for all believers. Love the Lord your God with all your heart, soul, mind, and strength.

🏡 When women are pursuing God it should turn into real things. Love your people. Love your home. Enjoy the good gifts God has given you. Learn how to do new things. We need to be doing more than pretending to be godly wives in domestic dress ups. We also need to be doing more than not even trying. Make your house smell and taste and feel like the freedom of the Gospel and the generosity of our God.

A new episode is posted! 🎉 Listen now wherever you catch your podcasts!

In this episode we discuss our tendency to compare our home practices and pursuits to the women we see online or in real life, and how important it is to have solid biblical convictions but to hold them in such a way that they impact your own practice but do not lead you to judge others or meddle in their affairs. There are principles we can agree on in scripture, but the application is going to look different from person to person and family to family. Listen and be encouraged!

A new episode is up! 🎉 Find it wherever you catch your podcasts.

On this episode we discuss the idea that there is a division between sacred and secular in the work that we do in the world, and how this unbiblical distinction has impacted our ability to see that as we serve our neighbor, even in the most menial ways, we serve the Lord. The people we serve are masks of God. Listen and be encouraged.

“Through doctors, teachers, husbands, wives, mothers, fathers, police officers and postal workers, God works through them to accomplish his purposes. He is veiled by, and works through those who serve their neighbor.
We are masks of God.”
