Jasper Boychuk kicked my ass back on the saddle, and here we are with a new episode for 2022. Among other things we talked about agriculture, bees, kittens, and the importance of being a good neighbour.

It's the first one I recorded on OBS, so check out this sweet screen grab of zoom together with part of my shoulder.

Does anyone want to come on my podcast? So long as you're not trying to promote your business or some pyramid scheme it will probably fun.

Hell, I'd probably have fun if you were promoting your pyramid scheme, but you might not.

NEW PODCAST ALERT:

Live on location at a social distance in my backyard Jonathan J. Fraser and Keith Galbraith joined me for beer, ci**rs, and a look back at the last year of doing the podcast.

The photos were blurry (or from my end non-existent). The audio went from spotty to outright apoplectic at the end. But you know what? I had a damn good time. I hope my new Facebook followers enjoy this as well.

We're stepping out into another area of law today with our first ever estates case! NEW PODCAST ALERT (FINALLY!):

Sam Popowich and I have known each other for over a decade, having first met in grad school. We talked about his work in librarianship, and his current PhD scholarship in Political Economy.

As you can tell by my excellent screen capture, we were both SUPER EXCITED to do this chat!!

NEW PODCAST ALERT! Subscribe, etc.

Wes Modes built a real life shanty boat and rode it down the Mississippi river. He's an extremely cool, punk rock anarchist who likes talking to river people while drinking gin and smoking ci**rs.

If that's not enough to excite you, well then God love ya nothing will!

NEW Podcast Alert!

I had a great chat with Ceilidh Henderson, easily the most difficult to manage guest I've had so far, but listening to her harrowing tales of life or death on the saddle (do canoes have saddles?) made it all worthwhile.

I also took the opportunity to give unsolicited advice on crafting the perfect joke, as someone who once got tepid applause at Absolute comedy.

NEW PODCAST ALERT!

I talked to Alan Thomas, my old organ teacher. A teacher, pianist, and choir director, we talked about Alan's musical upbringing during the war, being one of the first musicians to perform live on British television, and his training in Manchester.

We then discussed his move to Ottawa in his 30s to teach at Ashbury College, and how he manages to stay sharp and active in his musical repertoire to this day.

For Easter, here's a podcast I did with Alan Thomas, my old organ teacher. A gifted teacher and musician, we talk about Alan's career, and his journey from Wales to Canada.

Sometimes I dictate badly formed ideas into a recorder and let Dragon Naturally Speaking turn it into text with a lot of grammatical errors. I put those on my blog:

I had a blast talking with John Hemingway about squash, rugby, snowshoeing and WOODWORKING. John really has made some beautiful pieces of furniture. I love the idea of millworking but damn if I have don't have three left thumbs and a hoof.

I suppose I should use my Tuesday Night Squash league e-mail list to check in on some more of my old friends. Really hoping to get back on the court this year, that would be the dream.

If someone wants to teach me how this "OBS" business I hear so much about works, I would be very grateful. Yet another podcast is going to be delayed by virtue of the fact that the my recordings on squadcast are disjointed and full of drift. I don't mind editing but I wish I didn't have to do restorative work every other week...

I have one upcoming guest who asked if they could use the phone, and I wanted to upgrade audio from what I did with Michelle Desbarats. I had another that wanted to do my podcast on FB messenger. What to do, what to do? No way I was buying a mixer for my amateur make no money podcast.

Wellsir, a solution has been found. She ain't pretty, and I'm not going to win any grammys for this setup, but it looks like she works.

NEW PODCAST ALERT!...

My Podcast with Sherif Rizk is up! We talk about life in Egypt, navigating the media, learning Arabic, Batman, Aladdin and Vigilantism. But not in that order. Also I learned Remi Malek is going to be a Bond villain! Neat.

I have another podcast interview in the can, but due to internet issues it needs a lot of TLC before I can publish it, so it might be a while before you see new episodes up. My sponsors have given me the green light, so hopefully you'll see it soon!

NEW PODCAST ALERT!

Dr. Anthony Moretti teaches journalism at Robert Morris in Pittsburgh. I was told by Ari to follow him on Twitter a few years ago, because we both love the CFL. He's a sports journalist turned professor of journalism, and getting into the nitty gritty of how sports stories are framed is very interesting to me.

I make the case for why I think roided up players belong in their respective sports' halls of fame.

What do you do when you feel rejected?

Jia Jiang adventures boldly into a territory so many of us fear: rejection. By seeking out rejection for 100 days -- from asking a stranger to borrow $100 to requesting a "burger refill" at a restaurant -- Jiang desensitized himself to the pain and shame that rejection often brings and, in the proce...

It took a while to post a new episode, but I'm ok with it. I don't want making one every single week to feel like a chore, and I'm worried that it's veering into that direction.

Back with another solo episode, I talk about the perils of getting guests, my short fuse, and also why me sitting in my basement complaining about banks and phone companies hasn't produced real change...yet.

Some art inside of my recording studio/office. I watched a video on YouTube on how to hang up paintings and then completely ignored it.

The piece on the right was a birthday gift painted by my grandpa, and the one on the left was a gift from Daniel Nadeau, one of my first ever guests on the podcast! I highly recommend you go back and listen to episode 3 if you want to learn more about Dan and his craft.

No new podcast this week as I've run out of friends to interview for my podcast. Well, not exactly, but I'm working on finding a new guest for the 'cast sometime soon. I might do something solo, unless one of you is chomping at the bit to come on.

NEW PODCAST ALERT!

It has been probably over a DECADE since I had a conversation with Daniel Tarof. Podcasting is an excellent medium to catch up with someone. We talked about:

- African Drumming

- Olivia Newton John

- the 2008 Hyundai Accent; and

- Losing a hand

But not necessarily in that order. Come take a listen and you'll be treated to two original songs by Dan, including one making its INTERNET DEBUT!!!

Had a blast chatting with Dawn Xanklin on my podcast! I expected to talk about finding our creative voice in pandemic times. And I also wanted to extract the origin of the term "Blerd," which I had only ever heard in Dawn's standup act. I did NOT expect to be talking about former Ottawa Mayor Larry O'Brien, even for half a second, in something that could really be of interest to us true townies that didn't move here for work.

It's late because the days and nights have sorted blended together, but I've given myself permission to have no fixed timetable with these, lest podcasting become a chore. I hope you have a listen. Or not, who cares, etc.

A Californian Linguist turned Canadian Sheriff, turned stand up comic, turned paralegal. Lorenzo Patino is an interesting character, and has had many twists and turns in his life story. We talked kicking people out of their homes, what life post-COVID will be like, and also talked about our kids, and our dreams of strapping SUPs to the top of camper vans and being professional nomads. Finally, we managed to squeak in some stand-up shop talk.

Due to a host of logistical issues, I didn't have a guest lined up for this week, but I decided to record anyway. I talked about the challenges of finding someone I wanted to talk to, some new projects that I'm working on in the podcast sphere, and some books that I've been reading that I think would be of interest to others.

If I did an episode that was just me talking for a half hour, would it be better if the track was silent (i.e., no background music), or if I just had a wall of ambient music in the back? Would that be way too annoying?
