14.5 KG POPPY STRAW SEIZED, TWO SMUGGLERS ARRESTED BY POLICE

Jammu, 5 July : In Continuation to its war against drugs police today arrested two persons along with 14.5 kilograms of poppy straw (bhukki) in Jhajjar kotli area.
A team from Jhajjar kotli police station led by SHO Jhajjar Kotli Rajesh Khajuria and PSI Rajat Mangotra raised a naka at suketar and signaled a truck bearing registeration no PB06N 2355 to stop for checking. On seeing police cops, the truck driver accelerated the vehicle and tried to escape, but the cops thwarted his design and intercepted the truck. During comprehensive checking, police recovered 14.5 kg of poppy straw (bhukki) from the vehicle which was concealed in special cavities constructed in the truck and LPG Cylinder.

The accused driver identified as Jasvinder Singh s/o Puran Singh and helper Jagpreet Singh s/o Balvinder Singh r/o Qadian Gurdaspur were arrested. In this connection Fir no 120/20 u/s 8/15/25/29 NDPS act registered at PS Jhajjar Kotli and further investigation was taken up to unearth the racket.

*Wife killed, husband injured in Anantnag mishap*

Anantnag, July 05 : A woman was killed while her husband suffered injuries on Sunday in a road accident in South Kashmir’s Anantnag district, officials said.

An official told news agency—Kashmir News Observer (KNO) that a woman was killed while her husband was injured when they were traveling on a motorcycle and were hit by a tipper in the district.

They said that a tipper (JK13-6484) hit a motorcycle (JK03G-7099) in Danipawa area of the district, leaving a woman dead.

The deceased was identified as Nasreena Banoo, wife of Javid Ahmad Khan of Wangam area.

Officials said that her husband Javid Ahmad Khan, who was driving the motorcycle also got critically wounded in the accident and was shifted to Srinagar hospital for treatment.

Windstorm Creates Havoc In Kashmir.

The windstorm caused massive damage to orchards, trees and residential houses in parts of Kashmir this evening.

Reports reaching said windstorm hit parts of Kashmir this evening, causing damage to public property.

They said that rooftop of many houses were destroyed in parts of Sopore town while as many trees were also uprooted in the belt.

Reports said that several residential houses were also damaged in other parts of Kashmir after trees uprooted and fell on them.

The strong winds created panic and scare while the Power supply in many areas were snapped, however, there was no report of any loss of life across Kashmir when filed this report.
