This Sunday, March 27, Cats in Our Laps features the vocal duo The Real Sarahs, coming to us on Zoom from somewhere south. The Sarahs and I will chat some, play from their albums, and they will play live on the air as well.
They describe themselves on their website, "Introduced by a mutual friend in 2010, Sarah ‘Songbird’ Larkin and Sarah Ryan have been nearly inseparable, musically, since. As rising stars in the west coast Americana scene, The Real Sarahs have distinguished themselves as skillful harmony singers and evocative songwriters. With an organic sound that enchants and uplifts the spirit, they share their special gift of vocal synergy
Opening the show will be guitarist Chris Newman from Victoria BC, who has just released his second album, "Steel-String Interpretations".
Also in the first hour, a busy hour for sure, Don White will read "The Second Tree From the Corner", by E.B. White.

The guest artists on this week's Cats in our Laps are Titiana Eva-Marie and the Avalon Jazz Band. Though Titiana will be joining us from her present home of New York City, the music she and the Avalon Jazz Band performs is that of romantic Paris in the 1930s. Born in Switzerland and educated on two continents, Titiana is an actress, an author, and for us, a warm and engaging jazz vocalist.
Leslie Lewis of the WIld Rose Choral will join me in the first hour, for sure this time, not a misreading of my calendar. and Al Latham will be with us as well, unless he's busy shoveling snow out of his driveway.
Deborah Kate Hammond reads for us as our poet laureate always does, three poems she has chosen, one for each hour of Cats in Our Laps.

I post this to correct an error in what I posted yesterday. Leslie Lewis, conductor and music director of the Wild Rose Chorale, will be on Cats in Our Laps not today, December 5, but next Sunday, December 12, at 7:30. She will bring recordings of Wild Rose and talk with me about their upcoming Candlelight Concert.

04/12/2021

This Sunday, December 5, the guest artist on Cats in Our Laps is pianist Rebecca King. Rebecca is a classicly trained pianist with roots in both folk music and jazz. She is well known and appreciated in the Bay area for her playing at American contra dances and English country dances. For Cats in Our Laps, she will be at her keyboard to perform music of the winter season along with choosing selections from her albums.
In the first hour of the show, Leslie Lewis, conductor and music director of the Wild Rose Chorale will join me to chat about the Chorale's upcoming Candlelight Concert.
In the 9:00 hour, Catherine Stone will read from John Wesley Powell's account of his party's descent of the Colorado River.
As in each and every week, Deborah Kate Hammond has three poems for us and Al Latham will advise us to dress warmly because winter now is upon us.

Laura Love's long career has embraced and blended many musical genres but her common theme is social justice and the blessings of kindness. Laura is this Sunday's guest artist on Cats in Our Laps.

Joining Laura and host Phil Andrus are Cats poet laureate Deborah Kate Hammond and Al "Weather or Not" Latham. On the book shelf is an article about the anti-vac movement in England in response to the introduction of the smallpox vaccine and and the final chapter of M. Wylie Blanchett's "The Curve of Time".
Cats in Our Laps airs on Sunday evenings, earlier now from 7:00 to 10:00 and on Friday afternoons as well.

Catherine McNabb, actress, best friend to Cats' poet laureate Deborah Kate Hammond and for many years a regular visitor to Tossed Salad. Catherine passed away Friday morning after a long illness. In the 9:00 of Cats tonight I will play first a poem read by Deb in honor of Catherine and then Catherine's reading of Stuart McLean's "Love Never Ends".

The guest artist on this week's Cats in Our Laps will be Eric Swinderman, a celebrated guitarist who comes to us from the Bay Area. A composer, arranger, educator and master guitar player, he moves easily between Jazz, Blues, and Spiritual music.
As is the way of the Cats, Deborah Kate Hammond will read a pair of poems for us, host Phil Andrus will shiver along with Al "Weather or Not" Latham as your kitty snuggles in your lap to see warm, and Phil will read again from "The Curve of Time".
