Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum recognizes Bernard Siquieros for building relations
Tucson, AZ- Bernard Siquieros during his working days focused on education, education administration, and ended his professional career as curator of education with the Tohono O’odham Nation’s Himdag Ki:. Across his working career, he developed a polished persona to build connections among people and among organizations that benefited not only the Nation, but neighboring individuals and agencies as well.
The Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum is one of those organizations that benefited from Siquieros’ efforts, and on Nov. 6, at the museum, they presented him with the 2021 Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum Luminaria Award. The text on the framed award reads:
“Dear Bernard - We are incredibly fortunate to have you as a friend of the Arizona-Sonora Desert Museum, where your continued commitment to the Museum’s Mission has helped us learn, understand, and grow. Through the generous donation of your time, energy, enthusiasm, knowledge and skill, you have helped us re-establish our connection to the Tohono O’odham, which is crucial to the success of this organization.
“Your tireless efforts in encouraging and coordinating the engagement of elders in exhibit design and interpretive information, providing speakers for numerous special events, and training Museum staff and volunteers, have helped transform how we view and talk about this region, and how we engage its people.
“Moreover, you did all of this with a smile and a laugh that brought a sense of joy and friendship to each occasion.
“Your vision, compassion, and leadership in our community benefits all of us who love this beautiful desert we call home.
“We will be forever grateful.”
