Leon, Brooklyn, June 20, 2024. When Danielle and I decided in 2006 to stay in New York for a little while -we thought then- to give Leon a chance to get his own taste of this incredible city and to become bilingual, we could not imagine that 18 years later we would live that unique moment with him and his sister Josephine, who is carving her own artistic path at . What we experienced on Thursday at was so emotional and so powerful. Leon not only graduated from high school. He made it in NYC and found a way to shine in a hyper competitive school system to enroll at the , a school he had been dreaming of. When I look at his determination to achieve his goals, I see a bright future for U.S. diplomacy if he decides to embrace this career. Congratulations Leon and enjoy your new adventure at in DC!

Snapshots from the world premiere of my new film «Desire: the Carl Craig story » on Wednesday night at .This magical night was undoubtedly the highlight of my filmmaking career. I was lucky to be surrounded by my family, my crew, my friends and an incredible crowd. When I arrived in New York, I never ever imagined that one day I would stand on the Tribeca red carpet with Detroit techno legend before sharing a film with a huge crowd and then watch with amazement that same crowd dance to the beats of Carl after the screening. I feel so much gratitude today. But my first thank you goes to my wife , my children and as well as our dog because they gave me the love and strength to carry this film to the end.

Me, Lausanne, 04.26.24. When I asked my brother .d__ if he could take a few pics of me for the world premiere of my new film « Desire: the Carl Craig story » at , I did not expect it to be so fun. My brother set up a studio at . He brought his and a few bottles of Chasselas, this fizzy white wine that would give a headache to pretty much everyone who would drink it except maybe to the local people from Vaud and to their neighbors from Valais, whose «national drink» is the fendant (another guaranteed headache for people not accustomed to this white wine). This shot captures the fun I had spending time with my brother and letting him try to capture what he could from someone who is way more comfortable behind the camera. I hope you’ll enjoy it. And to you Loulou (my brother), you rock! Thank you!

Happy to have been able to work with awesome senior colorist Boris Rabusseau and , our sound mixer extraordinaire, on the post-production. The film is now almost ready for its world premiere at in June. Time to head back home to NYC.

“Desire: The Carl Craig Story” is going to have its world premiere at the 2024 Festival! It is hard to put into words the joy I feel today but I will try. My new film is going to screen at my favorite festival and in my hometown! It is the second time in four years that I get the privilege to show a film at Tribeca. So the best word to start describing what I feel, is grateful. I am grateful to , a musician I have admired and loved for more than two decades, to have trusted me with his story and his music. To be able to work with such an artist and such a sound, has been a gift. I am grateful to Dan Wechsler at Bord Cadre Films and Andreas Roald at , the producers of “Desire: The Carl Craig Story”, to and the Office fédéral de la Culture in Switzerland for having believed in the film. I am grateful to have been able to work with the most amazing crew: the extremely talented and (photography), (editing), .sounds and (sound), and Ladislav Agabekov (music editing), (sound editing), (sound mixing), Boris Rabusseau (sound mixing) and Gary Welch (music supervision). I am grateful to all the artists and to all the people featured in the film, who gave us their time and helped us tell Carl’s story. And I am also grateful to everyone along the way, who made this film possible. We will celebrate this beautiful and intense 2-year adventure in June at Tribeca. Muse, Brooklyn, 04.07.24. Muse turns 5 today! She was born at in Loretto, KY, and for the past 5 years she has given us unconditional love, care and friendship. She has been our best friend and our rock. She helped us make it through the pandemic with our sanity intact. She is the coolest and funniest dog. We are so lucky to have her part of our family! The day Leon was born 18 years ago today, he changed our world for the better. Yes, he made us become parents. But not just that. He made us become the parents of Leon Cosme Delaloye. Our family became whole three years later with the birth of his sister Josephine and the 4 of us created a life for ourselves in the unforgiving urban jungle of New York. Watching Leon grow up to become the young man he is today, has been an incredibly fulfilling experience. When you become a parent, the best thing you can dream of is that your child will go further than you were ever able to. As Leon is celebrating his entry into adulthood, Danielle and I know that he will most probably be able to get much closer to the White House and the State Department than I was ever able to as a reporter. We know that whichever university he chooses in the next few weeks, he will be appreciated for his incredible knowledge of history and foreign policy. We know he will put to good use everything he has seen while traveling around the world. We know that the people he will meet and who will be able to be part of his life are in for a beautiful ride. And in a world, which can unfortunately be full of anger, we see hope. Thanks to him. Thanks to his sister. And thanks to all young people like them. Happy birthday Leon. Have fun.

Mariel and Dominga, Nicaragua, a few years ago. I recently received this picture from Dominga’s sister. I hadn’t heard from Dominga for several years and I had kept wondering how she was doing. Dominga was the main participant of a radio story and a film I made 12 years ago. She was a survivor living in a landfill, who taught me an important lesson in life: whenever you have something, share it, because tomorrow you might be the one in need. I kept in touch with her for years. And then one day, she disappeared. So when I received that picture, I was incredibly happy. But then her sister told me Dominga had passed away 3 years ago. Covid made the world lose a big, big heart.

Silent Servant, Los Angeles, April 2023. It took me a while to write this post about an artist I really liked. It is hard to believe he is not with us anymore because I have been spending the past 8 months listening to him describe in his colorful language the impact had on him. Silent Servant was one of the non-Detroit techno artists I really wanted to include in my film on Carl Craig because he could put in words the feelings Carl’s music evokes. Today is the day we wrapped up the editing of the film and it is the day for me to say goodbye to . I am glad his legacy will live on in my film.

14 years old already! Josephine was born on December 24, 2009. It was the best Christmas gift , and I could ever dream of. 14 years later, she is a student at high school on Broadway, studying drama to maybe become an actress or a playwriter one day. Wherever this path takes her, she is, and always will be, our star. Happy birthday Josephine!

Scott, Clifton, NJ, 12.13.23. I met Scott while shooting my film HARLEY. Scott is just the sweetest, nicest soul. He loves Johnny Cash. When I say love, I really mean love. He knows most of Cash’s famous tracks by heart. And every year at Harley Breite’s Kids Christmas party, he sings. Yesterday he sung Walk the Line and Ring of Fire.

Yulieth, Comayagua, Honduras, 12.04.23. Her name is Yulieth. On March 22, 2010, I met her in a small village near Comayagua in Honduras. I was wrapping up a series of podcasts for Radio Télévision Suisse. On that trip, I had covered the maras (gangs), the hooligans and the aftermath of the 2009 coup. I was looking for one final story for my series and I had read in the local press that rural schools in Honduras were overcrowded and sorely lacking in chairs for their students.
As chance would have it, I stopped in Yulieth’s village. As I entered her classroom, I immediately noticed her wearing black woollen gloves. At the end of her class, I asked her teacher to call Yulieth’s parents to ask them if I could follow her home to keep reporting on her.
Her parents agreed. And I found myself in a crowded school bus on a winding road that took us to Yulieth’s modest farm. When we arrived, her father was taking care of the the chickens and her mother was in the house. When I told Yulieth’s family that it was my birthday, her father killed a chicken in front of me and her mother cooked a soup whose flavor I still remember to that day.
The story Yulieth told me that day was the story of many children in Honduras: her parents couldn’t afford to pay for her bus to go to school. I still remember the conversion I made at the time. The bus cost about 20 cents a day.
A few weeks later, Yulieth’s story was broadcast on Swiss radio. A family listened to it and decided to take action. Fabio and Vanessa De Angelis have supported Yulieth financially for years, making it possible for her to study business administration and international trade at the university.
Since March 22, 2010, Yulieth and her family have called me every year for my birthday and for Christmas. And I was happy to see them again in 2019 during a shoot in Honduras. But the best part was receiving thirty photos on WhatsApp this week showing Yulieth graduating from university. She is the first in her family to have achieved this.
For me, Yulieth embodies the power of journalism when it is lucky to witness fates like that of this young woman I admire.

Fabio, London, 11.16.23. The caption could just say « Legend » or « Godfather » but that would not be enough to describe the inventive, kind, fun, trail-blazing artist who wrote the first chapter of the history of drum and bass with his «compadre» . To be able to meet him inside the legendary where I saw some of the best deejays when I was in London two decades ago, was a special treat. In these deeply troubled times for our world, it is inspiring to listen to Fabio.

Josephine, Brooklyn, 06.22.23.
This young lady who went to her first prom two nights ago, graduated from this morning. While watching her walk onto the stage after her teacher called out her name - Josephine Delaloye (pronounced De-Lal-wow) -, I felt a mixture of amazement, pride, happiness and emotion. These past 3 pandemic years have been so demanding on Josephine and on her peers. And here they are, brilliantly graduating on their way to high school. Josephine is an actress, a comedian and a writer who will be lucky to develop those talents at on Broadway in September. She worked hard to get there and I am looking forward to watching her blossom into an artist, who will contribute to make the world a better and happier place. As would say, roll with it and don’t let anybody get in your way.
