📕Our kids have been racing and competing with everything these days, so we took a moment to read “The Race On Mermaid Reef” written by Tamara Rittershaus and illustrated by Alvin Adhi

📕This story follows a group of sea creatures who are all a little tired of listening to a boastful crab who loves to win and brag about it. When this crab races a slow moving sea horse, her pride gets the best of her.

📕We enjoy books with a a solid moral to the story and this one does not disappoint! The illustrations are so lively and the expressions on each character’s face is spot on!

📕This is a great addition to all kids with a competitive spirit to remind them the importance of being humble and that all competitors can race smarter instead of harder.

📚Reading Through the NICU strives to educate parents on the importance of reading to babies in the neonatal ICU and beyond. Our goal is to equip NICUs with adequate reading programs for their patients and their families to experience the many benefits of bonding together through books.

Hi friends (especially teachers!), I made two worksheets to go with my book, and I'd like some feedback on what ages/grades they're for.

The book is a Tortoise-and-the-Hare-inspired fable about "working smarter, not harder."

Worksheet 1 is measuring, adding, and a logic challenge. The child figures out the distance traveled and the time needed (they can see why the slow seahorse won the race!). They need to covert centimeters to meters.

Worksheet 2 is "Skip Counting with Seahorse Skip", which is fun because the character is named Skip and also because skip counting is an example of "working smarter, not harder."

Do children start skip counting in Kindergarten? 1st? Later?

When are American children introduced to metric measurements?

Any feedback on the worksheets is appreciated! Even proofreading tips or ideas for improvement.

“Abby the Braggy Crab” will be renamed “The Race on Mermaid Reef” 🦀💨🪸🧜🏽‍♀️

The original title didn't give the best impression of the story. It's not a book about bragging, it's a Tortoise-and-the-Hare-inspired fable about "working smarter, not harder."

You may have noticed my Kickstarter campaign isn't going as well as hoped. In part, it's because Abby the Braggy Crab just didn't have the "hook" (the instant appeal) that my book Mermaids Don't Fart had for its successful 2023 Kickstarter.

If this Kickstarter fails, I will still count it as a win, because a successful Kickstarter would have meant printing 2000 copies of the book with the wrong title.

The books will still get published! With the best title! Whether hardcover or paperback, I have to decide, but I would LOVE to stay in touch and keep you posted. Please join my mailing list so you don’t miss the book launch this summer!

I love children's books. Can you relate? We have way more picture books and chapter books (by far!) than adult books in our home!

Partly because we've had two big moves over the last six years, and it's easier (for me at least) to sell off or give away any novels that I've already read.

But picture books are different. We read them over and over again, first with my oldest, now with my youngest. I love to get a new picture book and it be something both my kid and I enjoy, whether because we had a good laugh, felt strong emotions, or learned a fun lesson.

So most of the picture books have moved with us. Twice.

As a creator

I want to make books

that you would take with you.
