I created this platform for artists to step out of their comfort zone and showcase a sound that they’re passionate about, so here you go! This mix is a moody one, with a hypnotic groove at the core - conveying many emotions. My focus last year was not techno and I really started to miss playing it out. However, I never stopped collecting it. Techno is the one genre that brought me into this life & is certainly a sound I want to peruse under my alias. 2023 brings a shift in focus. “When I was approached to do this mix I was beyond keen because it gave me the opportunity to showcase Techno that I hardly to get to play.In this one hour mix I dive straight into technical and driving melodies I tried creating the atmosphere of a peak time slot .I really enjoyed this recording because It got me out of my comfort zone and I’m thrilled to have it released on The Odyssey, a stellar podcast series hosted by Nic Letcher. In this 1hr mix I focus on music for the ether lots of minimal kicks and hats that keep the listener locked in a groove,I usually have a set plan when it comes to sets and I didn’t know how to execute this mix but I’m very happy with the turn out .It’s hard showcasing a lot of music in 1hr so I decided to mix as much music as possible I hope you listening to this mix as much as I enjoyed recording it and shoutout to The Odyssey for giving artists the space to showcase. Matt Halls is a Cape Town based DJ/Producer whose involvement with music has spanned for over a decade since his music journey commenced at the tender age of 7. Initially being a metal band drummer, he later transitioned his sound, gravitating towards electronica and dark techno, which led to his ability to unite a plethora of elements and genres throughout his current productions. His dark melodic sounds are distinctive, forged through a combination of digital, analogue and physical instruments sourced within his own studio. This admirable skill has earned him respect from numerous artists locally, as well as internationally. Matt has shared the stage with notable acts such as The Fogshow, Killer Robot, Just Her, Ryan Murgatroyd, waFF, Paranoid London, Stimming and Hvob, just to name a few. 2018 also saw him performing at Rocking the Daisies - a definite career highlight. In 2017 he officially launched his DJ project and from this point forward, Matt started producing sounds and music that shook the dance floor, yet bestowed captivating melodies and emotionally dark soundscapes, allowing people to create their own story within his productions. With a string of upcoming releases to look forward to, Matt Halls certainly has some exciting things on the horizon!

“Rhys Mømsen born and bred Johannesburg based DJ and Producer. Also known as one of the Co’s of plugcity networks SA. His music ranges between different genres to make one complete sound, driven by profound, low end bass lines with a wide variety of unorthodox, offbeat Sonics that are mingled together to make his sound, truly unique. A key ingredient to his music is the slapdash percussion that is oddly scattered throughout. The evolving talent on the rise is one not to overdo it and focuses on the cleaner aspect of mixing allowing the music to do all the work. Another huge factor in his eyes is the flow of music keeping everyone “in da groove”. He thrives on controlling people’s emotion throughout his mixing."

“Minimal is a genre that resonates a lot with me, it was one of my first big musical influences. I just love the simplicity and how it can be so effective on a dancefloor!
I chose this category because I felt that I’d be able to push the DJ’s & artists to the absolute max with their selections and is living proof of just that! My man absolutely bodied this mix, such a natural flow and style, he also killed the concept and provided some serious tunage! - ”
