A young mother was delivering pizzas near Akron, Ohio, and on the night of June 20, 2012, she failed to return from a drop off. Her manager called the police and reported her missing. Police found a bloody scene and evidence of a struggle at the address of her last delivery, but no one there. The search for Ashley Biggs was on.

There was a balmy breeze and above him, just a sliver of a crescent moon, a night like many September nights in southern Florida at the height of hurricane season. Police Officers from the Sandy Springs Police Department had just been despatched to a home on Cameron Ridge Drive in Fulton County Georgia, after residents reported an intruder. As it happened, local officers were already in the neighbourhood processing a home invasion nearby. When they arrived at the residence, they were informed by the home owners that the suspect was still on the premises and had just gone upstairs. For five long minutes, officers negotiated with the intruder, who remained eerily out of sight on the upper floor.
