This week I decided to bring some ideas for using games in the classroom.

This post is about some considerations we should take on account when including games in our lessons:

☑️Games need to be carefully selected or designed to make sure they are both "gamey" and learning-rich;

☑️Try to avoid games that have a lot of stages and are time consuming to explain . Remember that time taken to explain or distribute and collect materials is time taken away from the game itself.

☑️Games should have all, or most of the students actively playing them. Games that involve few students, not only lead to less learning, but also tend to be less interesting and fun.

☑️Try to avoid games for which you have to prepare lots of bits of paper or card; unless, you're sure you'll use them repeatedly in the future.

Do you consider those factors when planning a game?

This is the activity I've mentioned in the stories. It aims at encouraging students to create and predict.

I chose the song "Just hold on" by Louis Tomlinson because he was a member of the boy band One Direction, and teens love this kind of music. Don't they? 😂

Share, comment and save this activity for your classes.

Hello teachers!
Another activity using music!🎵🎶

If you're tired of fill in the blanks activity, try this one. It aims at encouraging fluency and quantity in writing.

At the end of the activity you may encourage students to work in pairs to edit their writing and find any mistakes.

If you liked this idea, share or tag a friend.

There are many reasons to use music in our lessons: introduce a new topic, break the ice, change the mood, teach language, culture, pronunciation, etc.

The activities I'm sharing today can be used with all levels!
It has worked for my students!

How to teach grammar effectively to beginners? Inductively or deductively?
I know It depends on many factors, and both have their pros and cons. The problem is how to do it effectively so it doesn't take much time explaining, it doesn't become boring, and helps learners use the grammar point to express themselves.

Teachers, which approach do you prefer teaching? Inductive or deductive?

How do you develop your students' passion for learning?
Do you know them well? What about their interests, do you consider them when designing your lesson plans?
What do you do to make learning meaningful?

One of our duties as language teachers is to maximize learning opportunities for our learners. But how do we do that?

Learner involvement and teacher questioning are two aspects of classroom management that will have an impact on the generation of learning opportunities inside the classroom.

Teachers should create a positive environment necessary for learning to take place, and provide meaningful learner involvement.

Another possibility is to ask the right type of questions that will generate meaningful interaction. Ask learners' opinions or interpretation, make open-ended questions.

Can you share with us how do you maximize learning opportunities for your students?

How do you encourage your students to speak, teachers?

Every opportunity for speaking in the classroom should be taken.
When SS try to communicate they realize their need for language and by speaking they increase their fluency and confidence.

The objective of communication activities is to encourage meaningful interaction between students.

When designing your lessons be sure that students have a reason for speaking: they are bridging the gap, asking for or giving real information or finding about the opinions of their peers.

Do you agree?

It's wonderful to have a sense of belonging. Challenge learners to create a class name and a class design. Promote this identity and bond students to your class.

I haven't challenged my students yet, but I certainly will!

Happy Valentine's Day!❤️❤️

This holiday is a great time for teachers and students to be creative and share how much they care for others.

As I appreciate and care for you teachers, I've decided to share another Valentine's activity.

This is a cross curricular activity because it combines English + Science. Watch the video to get students learning about their hearts!

Go to YouTube on the Happy Learning English channel to show "The Human heart: Amazing Fun Facts video". Exploit the video according to your group proficiency level.

If you like this idea share it with your colleagues.

Hello teachers! ❤️
I have a Valentine FREEBIE for you!

If you are interested, say YES, and I'll send it to you.

Tell students to write or draw people, places and things they love.
When they finish, they may share with their partner and talk about their choices.
This activity was adapted from .kindergarten.

Hello teachers!

As you know, there are many activities for the first day of class, such as getting to know each other, games, review, needs analysis, a talk about procedures and materials etc..
In order to create rapport and a positive learning environment, this is one of the activities I'll try with my students at the beginning of the class, because I want them to know how much I care about their learning and success.

What do you think about it?

Have a nice week and a great class tomorrow!

Hi teachers! Ainda sobre "How to get learners hooked into our tasks?" Getting students emotionally invested!

Task design is something we should take into account when planning our lessons. It can captivate learners emotionally on three levels: in its activity appeal, content appeal and physical appeal.
Read the post and let me know if you consider these three levels when designing your lessons.

Teachers, think of the first day of school like opening night! If you engage your students at the very beginning, you'll generate significant enthusiasm for your class!

Check out this idea to set the rules in a more engaging, active and hilarious way!

Hello teachers!

Plan for the learners you have in your class is another principle we should follow to get students hooked into our tasks.

Designing for our students is time consuming, but if you consider these questions when planning, your work will be much easier and students will appreciate a lot!

Hello everyone! Have a great week!
Tomorrow will be the last day at school this year. I'm dying for a break!

Vacations mean gentleness for ourselves, time to rest, to meet new people, new places, and new options!
What about you, teachers, are you almost on vacation too?

Can you identify me in the canoe? 😂🚣‍♀️🛶

Hello!
Find some cool Canva 3D elements to illustrate your slides presentations.

Did you know that you can get your learners emotionally engaged by creating attractive ways of presenting tasks? Oh yes!
People are more willing to engage when something looks visually appealing!

I love using Canva to illustrate my slides. Do you?
