Our guest was Ben Garcia out of Colorado Springs. He took an extended break from music and is back with new shows, new songs and renewed passion. Check out the interview and give him a follow!

As for Brightwire, we're only doing a single February show due to personal obligations and the like. That show is at Fredonia Brewery in Nacogdoches! We sure love playing there and hanging with all the folks up in Nac. We'll be playing 6-9pm, which means 3 full sets of music. We'll see how my elbow recovery is going on this one, for sure!

Then we're done until we hit the road for a short run to kick off March. Where will we be? Well...

March 8th, we'll be at Opening Bell Coffee in Dallas, TX from 7-8:30pm. We did this one "pay what you can" on the ticketing, so reserve a seat and come listen to some tunes!

March 9th, we'll be stopping in OKC to record an episode of the podcast, then sliding over the JJ's Alley open mic to play some tunes and meet some locals.

March 10th, we'll be heading up to Wichita, KS to play at one of our favorite spots around Kirby's! It's always a good time there and we love hanging with our friends in Wichita!

Then, we'll be closing out the run at Beer Is Good Brewing Company in Norman, OK on March 11th. Kim and I will be celebrating 8 years of marriage that day by doing what we love most: rocking out and having a beer where it was created! That one is 7:30-9:30pm. 2 full sets!

Then we're free until April. We'll be working on lots of recordings, finishing up other projects, working on side projects and all sorts of stuff in the down time.

Hope y'all got a chance to tune into The Houston Collective Radio today to hear a throwback episode of the podcast! Next Wednesday, we're going to return with our third episode of season three! We'll be venturing out to Colorado to talk with singer-songwriter Ben Garcia!

After some time away from music, Ben is back at it with a string of new singles. He's also been burning up the road! We caught him at the Dosey Doe Whiskey Bar back in December and really dug his set!

Set that reminder for midnight next Wednesday, February 5th!

The second episode of season 3 dropped at midnight! Y'all need to go give it a listen before heading over to The End tomorrow night to see this episode's guest: Bar Rats! They'll be playing with The Lockdowns, Wyde Roots and Dial Drive! It should be a rad night of music!

We had a great conversation with Matt B. and Matt H. about their beginnings in music, their previous bands, songwriting as both the principle songwriter and the collaborator. So much great info! And for you musicians that are playing live, stay until the end to get a great tutorial on how to keep that merch table fresh!

Thanks for listening, y'all! We've already recorded a few episodes for season 3 with more booked! So, mark those calendars for January 8th! We'll be kicking the season off with Liz Sloan McGovern (Urban Pioneers) and Mack Dart (Rock Bottom String Band) discussing fiddlating, their paths to music and the upcoming Walk This Earth Music Festival that their bands are hosting!

We'll be updating more between here and there, but we wanted to let you know we're still out there working, recording and finding fun folks to talk to.

Two years ago, we released our first episode of Music in the Minor League out into the world.

When looking around to see if I could find any information on a lot of the independent bands that we knew/loved, I kept coming up with nothing. No one was really talking to them, no one was really reviewing their records (no matter how brilliant they were) and no one was really taking a chance to use their space on bands that weren't already a commodity. It was a bummer, so I figured we could probably provide an outlet to those folks.

During the shutdown, the library put in a community podcast studio, so we had a spot to do it and we knew a lot of bands. It had to be pretty easy to do, right? Well, it has been pretty easy to do. Our friends' bands and their friends' bands have been so giving with their time that booking has been rather simple so far.

Kim and Helf were especially patient as I kicked off this endeavor with really no information outside "we're going to talk to bands and put it on the internet!" Quickly, they found their groove and really enjoy doing it. Season two listenership was not where it was in season one, but we also made a concerted effort to talk to folks deeper in the independent music world like indie record store owners, radio show hosts, bookers, graphic artists and promoters. We wanted to run through the entire experience for folks...and add some information that might help independent artists themselves.

If you want to be a guest, let us know! Our only prerequisite is that if you are a recording artist that you have two recorded songs to include in the episode and aren't a current major label artist...We buy all the music we use because it gives the artist more money than 100 streams would pay out.

PLEASE MESSAGE IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO DO THE SHOW!! We're going to start recording new episodes by the end of the month because season 3 is kicking off on January 8th.

There's a big weekend for past Music in the Minor League guests coming up! So many great shows, a new album and lot of fun are all in the mix!

Thursday, Grifters & Shills will be doing their new monthly showcase over at Union Tavern with Emily Glazener! That kicks off at 7pm and is usually over by 9pm. It's also FREE! Come out and support live music!

Friday, Junebird will be releasing their new album entitled Nothing To Hide! We've heard a lot of these songs live and know the album is going to sound stellar! Be sure to check it out via their Bandcamp page and pick up a copy! It'll also be Bandcamp Friday, which means they'll get more of the money! You could stream it, but buying it gives the artist 100x the money or more.

Saturday, Tucker Hart and many others (including us!) will be playing at the League City Village Fair & BBQ Cook-Off! It's going to start around 10am and run into the wee hours. We'll be there in the middle of the day before heading down to Galveston for...

Our show of the weekend! Shame On Me MTSP will be playing their first show ever at the Old Quarter Acoustic Cafe! Grifters & Shills will be opening the night up with a stripped down set. It's going to a really special treat to hear Shame on Me in a listening room where the music and soaring vocals really shine. Tickets are available via the Old Quarter website now! Get on it!

We might be between seasons at the moment, but that doesn't mean we're not out there supporting independent music! This past weekend, we headed out to Dan Electros to see Junebird (Episode 29) play alongside The Lonesome Haunts and Kerosene Stars! It was a great show from start to finish! We enjoyed listening so much that we hardly even socialized with everyone. We didn't want to miss a note!
