Lawrence Wong, Piano
Born in Hong Kong and raised in New Zealand, Lawrence Wong recently graduated with a Performer Diploma in Solo Piano Performance at Indiana University Jacobs School of Music studying with Professor Emile Naoumoff. He completed his conjoint degree of Bachelor of Music in Classical Piano Performance under the tutelage of Qu Yong and Brian Sayer and Bachelor of Science in Medicinal Chemistry from the University of Auckland. Lawrence completed his Master of Music degree with a Distinction Award at Lee University with a full scholarship, studying under Professor Cahill Smith. Over the past few years, Lawrence has won several prizes and scholarships in regional and national competitions in New Zealand as well as successes in several international competitions, notably the Kerikeri International Piano Competition 2010 (prizewinner), the 3rd Asia-Pacific International Chopin Piano Competition 2015 (semi-finalist), and the University of Memphis International Piano Competition 2017 (second prize), among others. In February 2016, Lawrence was invited to perform by the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office.
NAOKI TOYOMURA, PIANO
Naoki Toyomura is pursuing a Professional Diploma at the Royal Academy of Music with Michael Dussek and Joseph Middleton. He is currently a member of the Academy’s prestigious Song Circle. Naoki previously studied towards degrees in piano and economics at the University of Cambridge, Eastman School of Music, and the University of Rochester. He is currently the conductor of the Cambridge University Symphony Orchestra. Naoki won a string of first prizes from various competitions around New Zealand and in America and has also concertised in Japan and Germany. Further afield, Naoki participated in the Bowdoin International Music Festival, Brel Song Academy and the Kirishima International Music Festival where he won the Student’s Chamber Music award. Naoki has also performed chamber music with members of the Tokyo Philharmonic, NHK Symphony, Auckland Philharmonic, Rochester Philharmonic and Syracuse Symphonia orchestras as well as with faculty members at Eastman and Cambridge.
