OMG HAI MAB Fam! 🤩🤩🤩

We are BACK! 🥳 A looooot of s**t happened in the last like… 10 months? But we’re here! 🙋🙋🙋

This episode was recorded like in late 2022/early 2023, so please note that our ramblings are a little out of date (editing the audio files gave me [Val] anxiety and I postponed it for MONTHS!)

In this episode, we are taking a trip to the Canadian Maritimes provinces, more specifically Nova Scotia.

In 2013, this terrible story was titled “Murder for lobster” all over the news. But is it as simple as that? Let me tell you right now, no, it’s not that simple.

Have you listened to the Pig Farm Killer episode yet?

Here's one of the YouTube videos humanizing the victims. Good job there. We strongly recommend watching this documentary.

This week, Val takes us to the West coast of Canada, in the area of Vancouver, British Columbia.

From the late 1970s to the early 2000s, women in Vancouver's Downtown East Side, also known as Low Track, started disappearing. As they were s*x workers and Indigenous women, the police didn't really care.

And there's this creepy pig farm in Port Coquitlam, BC, where a weird man is luring in people with drug addictions, and throws big parties at his Piggy Palace Good Times Society.

A case straight out of a horror movie... That happened for real.

In August 2018, a quiet neighborhood in Colorado was shocked when Shan'aan, a wife and mother disappeared along with her two little girls.

The husband, Chris, attempted the role of devoted and worried husband and father but the missing pieces quickly fell into place, and the horrors of what happened shocked the country.

In this new mini-series, Premeditated Ramblings, Kate and Val are, you know, rambling. Instead of leaving it in the regular episode, we'll cut them down in 2 shorter episodes!

This week, Kate talks about her ADHD medication and the struggles of teaching, how she's basically besties with Chvrches's singer, Lauren, a mini-golf course named Smiley Putt Putt in Kansas, and her future hearing aids.

Val talks about her son's ADHD medication (and all the benefits in school), and about the Berenstain Bears books. Does anyone else remember the spelling being "Berenstein" with an "e"? Because Val sure does!

Big shout-out to Karate in the Garage podcast for suggesting the name of our mini rambling episodes, Premeditated Ramblings!

Seeing nearly 3 million hikers a year, the Appalachian Trail is a much-anticipated hike for many. Less than a dozen cases of foul play have occurred on the trail since it opened.

However, in 1981, hikers Susan Ramsay and Robert Mountford Jr would embark on their journey that sadly ended as a horrific tragedy. Years went by and in 2008, two fishermen were faced with the fight of their lives at the very same spot on the trail where Ramsay and Mountford were murdered.

Stay tuned to hear how the cases were connected and how the Appalachian Trail became the location of some of the country's most gruesome acts of violence.

Kate and Val are back after an unexpected summer off!

This week, Val takes us back to Scarborough, Ontario, and talks about a case she accidentally heard about while binge-watching Forensic Files: the Sleepwalker case.

Kenneth James Parks had a history of sleepwalking. And he was not the only one in his family. Like Grandma, who was a sleep-cooker!

One night, Ken woke up and drove to the police station. He believed he had hurt someone he loved dearly.

Learn about this interesting murder case that involves a lot of sleepwalking triggers, from gambling to poor sleep hygiene.

And if you manage to stay until the end, Val shares a couple of sleepwalking anecdotes from her past!

Episode 7 🎧

This week, Kate takes listeners to Kansas City for a deep dive into the case of America’s first internet serial killer. How did a con man from the Midwest turn into a serial killer?

John Edwards Robinson had a history of conning people that rivals the plot of the movie Catch Me if You Can and a horrifically evil side that investigators, women, and his family never expected.

In this episode, Val talks about Canada’s most infamous case, named “Ken and Barbie Killers”, because the murderers were both gorgeous people.

Paul Bernardo and Karla Homolka are being one of the worst r**e, abuse, and murder case in history: The Scarborough Ra**st and the murders of Leslie Mahaffy and Kristen French in St. Catharines, both in Ontario, Canada.

And one of the worse parts: the assault were filmed BY THE PERPETRATORS, on tape.

Let’s go back to the late 1980’s / early 1990’s. You are not going to believe how this story ends. By far the most frustrating case and a story where justice hasn’t been made, and probably never will.

Join us this week as Kate shares the chilling and unsettling story of America’s First Serial killer family.

Kate stumbled on the story when stopping at a rest stop in southeast Kansas where she saw a historical marker for the site of the murders.

The Bender Family terrorized travelers on the Osage Trail from 1872-1873 and were responsible for at least 11 murders.

In this episode, Val shares a horrific story she’s been hearing about her entire life. From 1977 to 1989, a guru went from helping people quit smoking and spread the word about the Bible to becoming one of the worst abusers in Canadian history.

Val chose this story because her grandma gave her a book written by one of the members of the cult, Gabrielle Lavallée. She knew one terrible story but boy, was she not ready for the awful events that took place in Saint-Jogues, Québec, and Burnt River, Ontario.

Spoiler alert: he dies at the end.

Kate was terrified to present our first episode!!!

As a native of Wichita, KS, she knew she wanted to cover the Carr brothers case, as she had grown up hearing stories about it.

The horror occurred in 2000 when she was just 10 years old and she only knew bits and pieces of the story. Wow was she in for shock and heartbreak when she began her research.

Tune in to your favorite podcast platform and brace yourself for the Wichita Horror.
