As part of the Detroit Safety Team Fellowship, DST members and planned a weekend workshop surrounding healthy masculinity in hopes that folks take this information to use for their personal growth and to extend this knowledge to members of their community.

This workshop would be a two day series, February 3rd+4th from 10am-3pm. Registration required. Link is in our bio. Workshops includes:

“Criminal defense attorneys are often presented with a jury that features a majority of white, upper-middle class individuals who are then responsible for judging the guilt or innocence of a defendant who does not share their same characteristics or background.” ~ Hong Tran, Jury Diversity

When a judge asks can you put your beliefs to the side & be fair & impartial, & folks honestly say no they cannot, they’re pushed to stay on the panel & shamed by questions that clearly underscore why they said no in the first place.

Folks who say yes know they’re not being honest.

We all have beliefs & ideas that shape our worldview. No one is really impartial.

We know the business of so-called criminal justice is the center of the economy. This country is literally propped up by the so-called justice system & has been since its foundation of the commodification of captured humans.

After my jury duty experience my comrade Lumumba suggested I talk about jury selection on my next show.

I’m looking to find a great expert who can speak to the history of how Detroit courts switched from having a Detroit-based juror pool to state-wide.

Michigan is very racially segregated with many current sundown-towns.

As an abolitionist i believe in the dismantling of the entire system of courts, jails, prisons, policing, law enforcement, predatory bail, & of course capitalism.

It’s all rigged. We’re under the illusion of justice. As hard as we fight to change laws they can be reversed or done away with.

I also believe it is our duty to fight for our rights while we’re still in this system.

This week I’ve been looking up different articles to learn more about this issue.

I’m hoping to have my thoughts articulated by the time Tuesday rolls around. However, I’m thinking I may go through some of the articles & discuss highlights during the show.

I really prefer having guests because I love listening & learning, however, listeners have been asking me to do shows where I give my own thoughts without guests.

The beauty of having my own show is I can do both. I can do one show where I go through articles & do a follow up or series where I bring in experts to dissect & discuss
