🪧 LSE students, alumni and other Arab diaspora protested outside the London School of Economics last night as Jordan’s pro-Israeli Prime Minister Bisher Al-Khasawneh addressed a meeting on ‘The Conflict In The Middle East”.

They’re angry at Jordan’s secret trade deals with Israel, and its repression of pro-Palestine protests while it outwardly expresses condemnation of the genocide in Gaza.

At Snarebrook Crown Court, the Crown Prosecution confirmed a retrial in June 2025 of Palestine Action activists.

After a jury couldn’t decide on multiple verdicts following a six-week trial in December, six activists now face another long retrial in June next year.

The direct action campaign shows no signs of slowing down, however ✊ 🇵🇸

The West is noticeably absent in its support for any proceedings against Israel.

12/01/2024

The innocent-sounding Economic Activity of Public Bodies (Overseas Matters) Bill had its 3rd Commons reading on Weds and 1st Lords reading yesterday.

Known colloquially as the Anti-Boycott Bill, its main aim is to prevent public bodies (eg local councils) from making moral or ethical decisions about the conduct of foreign states when making their procurement and investment decisions.

The Bill allows a future Minister of State to make amendments and exceptions - this might be for foreign policy or economic reasons or say, because a particular state is deemed to be carrying out genocide.

But astonishingly, there is a specific clause which protects Israel and the Occupied Territories from this potential ministerial interference. This effectively bans such boycotts in perpetuity unless the law is changed through parliament.

The current bill does not prevent individuals from boycotting, nor as yet does it prevent campaigners from calling for boycotts, but it does mean that any public body faces High Court action, including a maximum fine to be set by the Secretary of State.

As Sul Nowroz described in his report for Real Media at the weekend, boycotting helped end the apartheid regime in South Africa.

The exception enshrined in the current Bill (for a State long-accused of apartheid and now of genocide) is sinister.

After coming first for public bodies, its not hard to see how this undemocratic edict could yet spread to civil campaigns, protest groups and eventually even individuals.

Real Media journalist, Sul Nowroz, visited a small protest held outside a suburban Waitrose at the weekend.

While Israel is using the withholding of food as a weapon against Palestinian civilians, campaigners call for a boycott of Israeli food in UK supermarkets, in much the same way boycotts helped end South African apartheid.

In this Sunday Long Read, Sul Nowroz shows us that Palestinian identity can never be crushed ✊ 🇵🇸

If I must die,
you must live
to tell my story
to sell my things
to buy a piece of cloth
and some strings,
(make it white with a long tail)
so that a child, somewhere in Gaza
while looking heaven in the eye
awaiting his dad who left in a blaze –
and bid no one farewell
not even to his flesh
not even to himself -
sees the kite, my kite you made, flying up above
and thinks for a moment an angel is there
bringing back love
If I must die
let it bring hope
let it be a tale.

Israel’s West Bank Hostages

On November 13, Palestinian Eyad Banat, 35, was live streaming on TikTok when Israeli soldiers raided his Hebron home in the southern Occupied West Bank and violently arrested him.

Sul Nowroz’s new piece draws parallels between Israel’s systematic dehumanising treatment of Palestinian detainees and the human rights violations which were revealed at Abu Ghraib.

Last week, while hundreds of thousands marched to the US embassy, a peaceful vigil also took place in Trafalgar Square, laying down shoes and cards with the names of some of the thousands of children killed by Israeli bombing and action in Gaza.

Two interviewees asked us and politicians to remember the children and push for an immediate ceasefire. More than a week has passed and the bodies pile up.

Many thanks to Feng Ho for the images of the vigil.

📢 BREAKING: NOT GUILTY ✊

A random selection of UK citizens (the jury in the trial of the nine women who cracked windows at HSBC, April 2021) have once again sent a clear message to the government, police and judiciary, that they are completely out-of-step with public opinion on climate action.

After just two hours deliberation, they reached a unanimous verdict of not guilty, accepting the defence that if HSBC staff had known all of the facts when £180,000 damage was carried out on their glass, they would have consented to the protest.

🇵🇸 Next month at Snaresbrook Crown Court in north-east London, the trial of eight Palestine Action activists including the group’s two co-founders, is due to begin. They face charges of conspiracy to commit criminal damage, burglary, and for some, blackmail. The trial is scheduled to last for five or six weeks.

There is of course, a chance that the Crown Prosecution Service, under pressure from Elbit, may find a way once again to postpone, but at the time of writing, the 13 November marks the long-awaited day to let a jury of randomly selected citizens decide whether there is any lawful excuse in trying to shut down an Israeli arms company which manufactures military equipment including drones, used by the IDF to terrorise and target Palestinian people in the illegally occupied territories.
