At 9:30 am on Saturday, 1/27/2024 the East Great Plain Fire Department was dispatched to 682 West Main Street for a car fire. Engine 52 arrived at 9:35 and stretched a 1.75” hose line quickly extinguishing the engine compartment fire on a pickup truck. Car 5 had command and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 1:08 am on Wednesday, 1/24/2024 the Colchester Fire Department with Gardner Lake, Bozrah Ladder 126 and the Yantic FAST were dispatched to 41 Reservoir Road for a house fire. Car 128 requested the second alarm while responding due to reports of fire in the attic. This added Bozrah’s Engine & Tanker, Lebanon Engine 206 & Tanker 106 as well as Oakdale Tanker 43.

Engine 128 arrived at 1:25 with smoke showing from the gables. The crew stretched a 1.75” hose line through the back door and used the attic access to quickly knock the fire. Tanker 127 arrived second and nursed the first due engine.

Engine 228 overhauled while Tanker 128 and crews from Bozrah staged out front. The Mohegan Tribal Fire Department was added as the second FAST and the Colchester’s Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating. Marlborough covered Colchester Fire Headquarters and East Hampton covered Westchester.

At 2:38 pm on Saturday, 1/6/2024 the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Department was dispatched to 18 Fitch Avenue for a house filling with smoke. G-38 quickly signed on and requested Engine 62 from the Groton Submarine Base.

G-38 arrived at 2:41 with light smoke showing from a single story wood frame duplex. Engine 32 laid in from the hydrant and stretched a 1.75” hose line through the front door on the right side. G-38 transmitted the first alarm at 2:43 which added City of Groton Engine 21, Truck 15, New London Engine 2, Old Mystic FAST and Groton Ambulance with a Lawrence & Memorial Paramedic.

Engine 62 made the hydrant and established the water supply for Engine 32. Truck 35 performed the primary search and ventilation. The fire was quickly knocked down and the Poquonnock Bridge Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 2:24 pm on Wednesday, 1/3/2024 the Willimantic Fire Department with Mansfield Squad 107 and Uconn FAST were dispatched to 237 South Park street for a kitchen fire. Engine 101 arrived at 2:26 reporting smoke showing from the rear of a 1 story brick house.

The crew stretched a 1.75” hose line through the front door and quickly knocked the fire with tank water. Truck 101 set up ventilation while Mansfield secured the utilities. Uconn FAST was released shortly after arrival and the Windham Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 4:32 pm on Thursday, 12/21/23 the Franklin, Lebanon, Bozrah and Yantic Fire Departments with the Mohegan Tribal FAST were dispatched to 47 Lebanon Road for a structure fire. Car 26 arrived reporting pallets and debris burning inside and outside of the structure. Tanker 106 arrived at 4:44 and stretched a 1.75" hose line. Engine 33 arrived next and also put a 1.75" hose line into service. Ladder 126 set up in the rear while Tanker 125 nursed the scene. The Franklin Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.

At 5:21 am on Wednesday 11/29/2023 the Danielson, South Killingly, Attawaugan, and Atwood Hose Fire Departments with the Moosup FAST & KB Ambulance were dispatched to 344 Main Street Apartment A for a kitchen fire. ET 161 arrived at 5:27 with smoke showing from the ridge line of a 2.5” story wood frame mixed use.

ET 161 stretched a 1.75” hose line through the delta side first floor doorway where they found the kitchen burning. Engine 165 laid in to establish the water supply for ET 161. Tower 161 set up in the rear parking lot and flew their bucket to the Delta side roof. Ladder 194 backed into the driveway and flew their stick to the roof. Car 61 had command while Car 161 was operations. Crews were able to hold the fire to the first floor kitchen with minor extension to the second floor void spaces. Ambulance 861 and the QV Medic transported one person with smoke inhalation. The Killingly Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 4:43 pm on Monday, 11/20/2023 the Pomfret Fire Department with Williamsville Engine 160, Putnam Ladder 178, Rescue 478, Mortlake Tanker & Hose Tender 190, East Putnam FAST & Attawaugan FAST with KB Ambulance were dispatched to 321 Deerfield Road for a garage fire. Car 70 arrived at 4:47 with a two bay garage fully involved. Engines 270 and 160 stretched hoselines for a defensive attack while being nursed by Tanker 170. Tankers supplied the scene while Mortlake established a fill site at the Rectory School. The Pomfret Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 5:37 pm on Sunday, 10/29/2023 the Pomfret Fire Department was dispatched to 152 Quasset Road for a fire alarm. Car 870 arrived and said he was investigating a smoke condition on the second floor. Engine 270 arrived at 5:53 and went inside to help him.

Car 170 transmitted the working fire and requested the first alarm at 6:18 so Putnam, East Putnam, Attawaugan, Mortlake, Williamsville and KB Ambulance were added. The crew from Engine 270 stretched a 1.75” hose line through the front door up to the second floor. Putnam Ladder 178 flew their stick to the roofline on the Bravo side and used a chainsaw to cut the wall open. Crews handjacked supply line down the driveway to ET 170 where Tanker 162 was nursing them. Car 70 had command and reported the fire knocked down at 7:22. The Pomfret Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 7:46 am on Tuesday, 9/19/2023 the Norwich Fire Department with Taftville Tower 25 and Laurel Hill Engine 62 were dispatched to 197 Central Avenue for smoke coming from the roofline. Norwich Dispatch transmitted the working fire at 7:47 saying they were taking multiple calls with a person possibly still on the second floor.

Engine 2 arrived at 7:48 reporting smoke showing from the second floor and stretched a 1.75” hose line up the exterior wooden stairs on the Delta side. Two members from Truck 1 went to the second floor to perform the primary search while the driver threw ground ladders and went to the roof. A deceased victim was found on the second floor shortly after arrival.

Squad A established the water supply from a hydrant on the corner of 3rd Street which fed Engine 2. Engine 3 stretched a backup line to the second floor. Truck 25 went to the roof and prepared for vertical ventilation if needed. Engine 62 performed the secondary search.

East Great Plain Rescue 5 and Ladder 5 with Occum Engine 41 staged on Central Avenue and then covered the city. The Norwich Police Department, American Ambulance and the American Red Cross assisted on scene. The Mohegan Tribal FAST responded and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating with assistance from the Connecticut State Police Fire and Explosives Investigative Unit.

At 5:30 am on Saturday, 8/26/2023 the Danielson, South Killingly, Attawaugan, Atwood Hose and Moosup FAST with the KB Ambulance were dispatched to 79 Main Street for a couch fire. Car 462 arrived at 5:35 reporting heavy fire from the rear of the second floor.

ET 161 laid in from the hydrant on the corner of Main Street and Union Street and positioned in the rear. The crew threw an extension ladder to the second floor window and advanced their hose line into the building. Tower 161 set up on Main Street and stretched a 1.75” hose line up the interior stairs. Engine 161 tied into the hydrant and supplied the tower’s pump.

Engines 162 & 165 helped advance lines and then removed two victims via ground ladders. Ladder 194 set up in the rear and went to the roof. The crew then took a hand line up the aerial and wet down the roof line that was burning.

Car 61 had command while Car 65 had operations. Command requested 3 additional engine companies for manpower which brought in Dayville, Williamsville and East Killingly. The incident was placed under control at 7:06 and crews held the scene for a while. Two victims were transported to the hospital with smoke inhalation and the Killingly Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 10:07 pm on Saturday, 8/5/2023 a Norwich Police Officer noticed the Taftville Congregational Church was on fire and notified dispatch. At 10:08 the Taftville Fire Department was dispatched. Car 2 arrived at 10:10 confirming a working fire and transmitted the second alarm. Norwich’s Engine 2, Truck 1 and the Battalion were dispatched along with Yantic, Occum, Mohegan Tribal FAST and American Ambulance. Engine 2 arrived at 10:14 reporting heavy fire from the Charlie/Delta corner of the first floor. Engine 2 stretched a 2.5” hose line through the front door and advanced it to the rear.

Engine 21 laid in from a hydrant on North B Street and established the water supply for Engine 2. Tower 25 positioned in the TVCCA parking lot and flew it to the rear. Truck 1 forced entry into the walkout basement and then assisted with opening up and getting a line in the basement. ��Engine 33 stretched a 1.75" hose line and backed up Engine 2.

Engine 42 tapped into the hydrant in the TVCCA parking lot and fed Tower 25. A 1.75” hose line was also stretched from Engine 42 to knock down a lot of exterior fire in the rear. Crews operated inside for a while before command briefly evacuated them to knock down some fire with the ladder pipe. Engine 32 reverse laid out to the Shetucket River and pulled a draft in case a third water supply was needed. Truck 1 then positioned in the driveway and went to the roof for vertical ventilation. Laurel Hill Engine 62 and Jewett City Ladder 156 responded as relief crews.

Crews were on scene throughout the night overhauling and extinguishing hot spots. Canteen 1 responded for refreshments and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 7:58 AM on Wednesday, 6/21/23 the Yantic Fire Company was dispatched to Route 2 Eastbound between Exit 29 and Backus Hospital for a car accident with fire. Car 38 arrived at 08:00 reporting one vehicle on fire with everyone out of the cars.

Engine 33 arrived at 8:08 with 2 vehicles fully involved and stretched a 1.75” hose line. Engine 32 arrived next and gave their tank water to Engine 33. Command requested East Great Plain’s ET-51 for water. American Ambulance transported multiple patients and the highway was shut down for a while.

At 2:04 pm on Saturday, 6/3/2023 the East Great Plain Fire Department with Norwich’s Engine 3 & Truck 1 as well as the Mohegan Tribal FAST were dispatched to 401 West Thames Street Cottage 8 for smoke coming from the roof. Battalion 1 and Engine 3 arrived at 2:09 with smoke showing from the gable vents and ridge vent.

Engine 3 stretched a 1.75” hose line to the second floor where they flaked it out. Truck X and Step did a quick primary search and brought an attic ladder to the second floor. Engine 3 ascended the folding ladder and extinguished the fire in the attic. Truck 1 set up in the front and performed vertical ventilation.

The crew from Ladder 5 pulled ceilings on the second floor. Engine 52 laid in from the hydrant which supplied Engine 3. Squad A stretched a dry back up line. ET -51 and Rescue 5 provided manpower for support operations on scene with Yantic Engine 33 and Laurel Hill Engine 62. Car 5 had command while Battalion 1 was operations. Command reported the fire knocked down at 2:25. Norwich Police and American Ambulance stood by on scene.

At 3:15 pm on Saturday, 4/29/2023 the Bozrah Fire Department with mutual aid from Yantic, Colchester, Lebanon, Gardner Lake, Salem, Montville and the Mohegan Tribal FAST were dispatched to the area of 152 Fitchville Road for a house fire.

Ladder 126 arrived and set up on Fitchville Road while putting a handline into operation. Engine 126 was able to park in the driveway and stretched a hose line to the front. Engine 33 laid in from a hydrant near the Moose Lodge which supplied Bozrah’s Ladder and Engine. Engine 31 pumped the hydrant and sent manpower forward.

Crews knocked down heavy fire from the exterior and then stretched a line into the original home and the addition. Crews pulled ceilings to expose the fire while Ladder 128 cut the roof. Firefighters operated inside for a while before command ordered the evacuation tone. The Bozrah Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 8:33 pm on Saturday, 3/25/2023 the Preston Fire Department was dispatched to 3 Cedarcrest Drive for a house fire. Preston Engine 21 arrived at 8:40 with heavy fire from an attached garage that was spreading into the home and pickup truck in the driveway. Engine 21 laid a 5 inch line from Route 165 into the scene and then stretched two 1.75" hose lines to the front. Their tankers arrived next and nursed the scene.

Norwich Engine 2 cleared a medical and arrived as the second due pumper. They stretched a line through the front door where they encountered a large volume of fire. Mashantucket Tower 1 and East Great Plain ET-51 provided manpower for overhaul. ET-51 & Voluntown's Tanker 353 shuttled water back and forth from a hydrant on Hamilton Avenue. Griswold ET-355 covered Preston City while Ledyard Engine 13 covered Poquetanuck. The Preston Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.

At 7:34 am on Monday, 2/20/2023 the Willimantic Fire Department was dispatched to 93 Quercus Avenue for a possible house fire. While crews were responding, WW Dispatch said they were upgrading to the 1st alarm because they were still on the phone with the caller who said the smoke was getting worse.

Engine 101 arrived at 7:38 with smoke showing from a 2.5 story wood frame and transmitted the working fire. Engine 101's crew stretched a 1.75" hose line through the front door and extinguished a kitchen fire. Luckily the hydrant was in the front yard so the water supply was quickly established.

Truck 101 positioned in the front and provided horizontal ventilation. While operating, crews found the fire had dropped down to the basement so they forced the bulkhead and suppressed the fire.

Mansfield Squad 207 performed the secondary search and overhaul. UConn and Columbia provided the FASTs. Scotland Ambulance 516 staged on scene. North Windham ET-102 and South Windham Rescue 104 provided manpower and support. One canine was successfully removed from the residence. Windham Center provided coverage and the Windham Fire Marshal's Office is investigating.

At 2:12 pm on Monday, 1/30/2023 the Bozrah, Colchester and Yantic Fire Departments with tankers from Salem, Gardner Lake and Lebanon with the Mohegan Tribal FAST and Montville Engine 12 were dispatched to 21 Stanton Hill Road for a house fire. Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications said the homeowner believed it started as chimney fire and now had fire coming through the walls.

Engine 126 arrived at 2:22 with fire showing from the bravo side of a 2 story wood frame home. Engine 126 stretched a 1.75" hose line and knocked down a majority of the fire from the exterior and then went in through the front door. Tanker 126 arrived next and nursed the engine. Engine 33 arrived and stretched a crosslay to the left side of the home so they could wet down that side again. Tanker 127 tied into Engine 33 and supplied them with water.

Ladder 128 backed into the driveway and flew their aerial to the roof. Ladder 128’s crew went to the basement where they found active fire running the ceiling. Crews opened up and knocked the fire in the basement as well as the exterior wall of the first and second floor.

Car 126 had command, while Car 128 had operations and Car 3 was accountability. The Bozrah Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 7:53 pm on Sunday, 1/29/2023 the Laurel Hill, Norwich and Preston Fire Departments were dispatched to the old Norwich State Hospital property for a structure fire. Dispatch said Mohegan Tribal Car 3 reported a visible header with a glow from the other side of the river.

Engine 3 arrived to find a vacant 2.5 story wood frame well involved that was pretty far back off of Route 12. Crews stretched two 1.75” hose lines to prevent it from becoming a brush fire. Laurel Hill Tanker 61 and Poquetanuck Tanker 12 nursed Engine 3. The house collapsed shortly after and the debris pile was wet down. American Ambulance performed standby and the Norwich Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 1:08 pm on Saturday, 1/28/2023 the Bozrah, Yantic and Colchester Fire Departments with tankers from Gardner Lake, Salem and Lebanon, with the Mohegan Tribal and Taftville FASTs and Scotland’s Hose Tender were dispatched to Hillendale Farms, 17 Schwartz Road for a chicken coop fire. Quinebaug Valley Emergency Communications said they were taking multiple calls for a large structure well involved.

Engine 126 arrived at 1:17 with a 100’ by 400’ chicken coop well involved and transmitted the second alarm. Engine 126 used their deck gun and set up a blitz fire on the Bravo side for exposure protection. Tanker 126 arrived next and nursed their engine. Engine 33 split their crew in half to set up the drop site for water supply and sent manpower forward to stretch lines. An 1.75” front bumper line was stretched to the Alpha side.

Ladder 128 positioned in the front and set up for ladder pipe operations. A 2.5” crosslay was stretched from Ladder 128 into the exposure on the Delta side. Hose Tender 6 reverse laid from Ladder 128 to Engine 33. Ladder 106 set up in the rear and was fed by Engine 328. Engine 31 established a draft from the Yantic River to fill the tankers. Engine 128 also established a draft for the secondary water supply. 


The City of Norwich Fire Department was requested as the third FAST while East Great Plain Ladder 5 was requested for another ladder pipe. Additional tankers were called from Franklin, Oakdale, Chesterfield, Baltic, Lisbon, Lebanon, Laurel Hill, Griswold and Preston.


Car 126 had command while Car 2 had operations and Car 3 had water supply. Unfortunately over 100,000 chickens perished in the blaze and the Bozrah Fire Marshal’s Office is investigating.

At 12:36 pm on Tuesday, 1/17/2023 the Lebanon Fire Department was dispatched to the area of Mack Road and Exeter Road for a smoke investigation. Car 206 quickly signed on and Tolland County Dispatch said they took one call from Lyman High School reporting a large column of black smoke looking towards Mack Road. While ET-206 was responding, they confirmed a header in the sky. TN Dispatch updated companies that they were receiving calls for a house fire at 238 Mack Road, so the first alarm assignment was filled out adding Columbia, Hebron, South Windham Rescue 104, Colchester FAST, the Windham Paramedic and the Connecticut State Police.

ET 206 arrived at 12:47 reporting heavy fire from the rear of a single story wood frame residential house with solar panels on the roof. ET-206 stretched a line through the front knocking fire on the first floor. Tanker 106 arrived next and took an 1.75” hose line to the “Bravo/Charlie” corner. Ladder 106 arrived third and positioned in the front lawn. They flew the stick to the roof and performed vertical ventilation. Columbia Engine 105 used a circular saw to cut the bulkhead and then stretched a line into the basement. Very early into the fire, a good size portion of the “Bravo/Charlie” corner collapsed but crews maintained their offensive fire fight.

Hebron Tanker 110 tied into Tanker 106 which was also nursing ET-206. Hebron Squad 310 provided manpower for overhaul. Tanker 110 backed out and then Windham Center Tanker 103 came down to nurse the scene. Franklin Hose Tender 125 backed down the driveway and reverse laid about 1,000 feet of five inch hose back out to the roadway where a rural water supply operation was started.

ET-106 dropped a supply line from Mack Road into the second entrance of the fairground and established a water supply from the pond. South Windham Rescue 104 filled air cylinders on scene while Ambulance 506 provided rehab. The Lebanon Fire Marshals Office is investigating.

Footage from Lebanon's house fire yesterday afternoon at 214 Mack Road. Crews arrived to heavy fire from the back of the home. They stretched two interior lines through the front and two lines to the rear.
