Black Lives Matter.

We Simply Can't Ignore This Dilemma in this Contemporary Society. White. Black. Yellow and Brown. We Live Under The Same Sun. We Breath The Same Oxygen. Thousand Principles. But One Kind of Heart. Move Forward. Embrace. Accept. That's What Human Do.

The Destructive Power of Inner-Voice

I was 19 years old when I started my career as a computer enthusiast. I started as a data-encoder. My boss, Joey, (an Eletista who lived in one of the Condos at Ortigas Avenue) suddenly realized the potential I had when he saw me typing at the speed beyond the usual. When he asked how, I just said I just love computers and every night I come home, I sit, eat and sleep in front of my computers.

Next, being wanted to take advantage of my hidden talent, he appointed me to develop a little program. The infamous Inventory System.

Of course, with dreadful feelings… I struggled. Many weeks had passed, with no success, I eventually failed. The reason maybe was just 19 years old who just starting to the world of computing which forced to handle the overwhelming task fit only for the Pro.

“Puro ka simula…” those were the last words I have remembered later that afternoon before I finally head over to finish my shift.

I never see him again.

Furthermore, I became very good at computers and seems like I found King Mida’s touch that everything I have touched becomes an additional golden knowledge under my belt. Networking, Programming, Web Development, Graphic Designing, Digital Arts, Video Editing… you name it.

But I haven’t finished anything.

The disease of not completing anything also infected not just the projects that I have but even in any tasks that I have to accomplish. Education. Movie Series. Resolutions. Reading Books. Savings. And Anything in Between.

All failed.

I wondered why while I was puffing the last stick of my Marlboro cigar.

Eventually, the answered lies within my head.
“Puro ka simula”… which I simply thought at first that I was a lazy or chronic victim of procrastination.

As far as I have realized, I learn how to ignore that destructive inner voice.

Fast forward 7 days after I’ve figured out. I have finished 4 seasons of Billions consisting of 12 episodes each season. Read 5 books. Developed 1 complete website for myself. Edited and uploaded 2 videos for my page, and I am halfway through finishing the 5 seasons of 1959’s classic the Twilight Zone.

Finally, during my free time, I started again my interrupted 4-mile walk at the nearest park and started riding again my Skateboard, hoping to complete my first kick-flip sooner.

By the way, what is yours?

That destructive inner voice that hurdles your growth.

Identify. Ignore. Repeat.

Don’t let it destroy you once and for all.

Trust me on this. Before it's too late.

The Boy and the Casio Game & Watch

There was a boy.

His father had another family. Those years, he stayed at his mom. Later, his father had another boy from his new partner.

One day, at the age of 8, he finally met his half-brother which 5 years at that time. They become friends and didn’t feel any jealousy or any dilemma of being broken… or a second family.

Sooner, his father bought one day a Casio Game & Watch for his younger son.

Eventually, when the two boys met again some other time, the big brother has noticed the beautiful Casio watch wrapping around his little brother’s wrist. Instead of asking, he already knew that it was from his father. He wasn’t jealous of his brother but felt sad and confused, a reason that his father favored only the little one and not both of them.

Many years had passed. His old man passed away. He already once a teenager and later became a man.

Despite it happened a long time ago, he still remembers the emptiness in his heart.

Was it the Casio watch or the affection from his father that he couldn’t have? He realized maybe it was just a Casio watch, no wonder he found himself browsing the Casio watch many times since he was a child until later of his life.

Finally, 35 years later, on his 43rd birthday, he bought that vintage Casio Game & Watch for himself.

He felt relief. He felt the redemption from the feelings of being neglected or whatever it was.

How old are you now?

Sometimes even many years had flown away. The wound still fresh until we find a way to heal it. Either you had any experience of being unfortunate when you were very young, or perhaps a bullied kid around the neighborhood, or left alone by your parents, maybe always felt embarrassed, or simply like an 8-year-old boy who always wanted to have that Casio Watch… and affection.

We are responsible for healing ourselves. Please heal yourself now. Whatever it is.

And yes, that 8-year-old boy was…

me.

The Golden Handcuffs Dilemma: The reason behind hating what you do while keeping it.

The analogy is very similar to the Golden Handcuffs, even you exactly know what they are handcuffs that prevent you from being happy... and free... but you're very hesitant if you would take it out, for the very exact reason... it's gold.

But remember this, there are many opportunities out there that will give the real value of life, a somewhat greener pasture if I refer jobs, a healthy environment for damn relationships, fruitful activities rather than time-wasters. So on, and so forth.

Go on. Try. Break those handcuffs. Because for the same purpose, though golden, they are still handcuffs.

Live the Life Like an Open Book

We have to live life like an open book. We shouldn't carry a ton of secrets, which some of us have a few for sure. Be as transparent as possible to the people around you. To your loved ones. To your friends. Colleagues. Enemies.

Talk openly. Share the knowledge that you have. Don't keep the talent you have just to yourself.

Smile. Smile genuinely. If you're angry. Show it. Even Joker who often laughs feels pain. Sadness. Be genuine.
