The Marketing Insights event at UTS Business was an incredible experience. I enjoyed reconnecting with John Clay, Dr Andy West, and Nigel Bairstow. I gained invaluable insights from distinguished professionals such as Mark Phibbs, Gianna Bairstow, Sophie Blue, Azi Hosseini, Edmund Li, and Des Viranna. Their advice will undoubtedly contribute to my career growth in marketing.
As an international student, I often hear that securing a marketing role in Australia can be challenging. Many of my peers felt misguided during their studies, leaving the course incomplete or switching fields. A common misconception is that only native English speakers can succeed in marketing without formal qualifications. I strongly disagree. With a growth mindset and determination, I believe anything is possible.
I have been passionate about marketing and am confident plenty of opportunities are available. The real challenge lies in understanding the market, adapting to its dynamics, and applying the right strategies. This can be overwhelming, especially for students balancing full-time studies while trying to identify and pursue these opportunities.
Many students, like myself, are eager to grow, thrive, and make an impact but often feel uncertain about where to start, how to navigate the industry, or whom to approach for guidance. I encourage the UTS: University of Technology Sydney to organize more career-oriented networking events tailored specifically for marketing students. Additionally, collaborating with the Australian Marketing Institute to provide internships and part-time and full-time job opportunities would enable us to apply what we have learned in real-world settings.
These initiatives would be invaluable in supporting our personal and professional development, effectively bridging the gap between ambition and opportunity.
