Wassail! Forgive the silence gentle folk, my host continues to be preoccupied with scholarly endeavours and so my travel has been limited of late. We did partake of some theatre - some new playwright called Shakespeare - although I neglected to ask my host to include me in the digital painting. If you've been wondering at my silence, my host and I have been engaged in copious scholarly pursuits of late. Her commitment to the written word is a relief to a studious bear like myself. I was somewhat disconcerted to find so much of her library in Latin - I have always been a strong advocate of our own fair language, English - but delighted to find the works of the great Augustine in the vernacular at least!

I have arrived at my American base in New Haven, Connecticut. I won't say palace - far from it - but it's certainly no swamp either! The American people have a liking for grand structures. Even the way station for their mechanical carriages (mirabilis!) has a colossal scale.

My new friends are kindly returning the favour and are taking me with them on their travels around the world! First stop, the New World! I learn my Viking rivals once made it over to the Americas, so I'm keen to plant an Anglo-Saxon flag there as well!

Wassail! Alfred the Great here, former King of Wessex and bear. Last week I met some new friends and took them on a tour of Wi******er, my home. We went everywhere, from the beautiful Cathedral (not as nice as the old Anglo-Saxon one, but the Normans did their best), to Wi******er college, and Jane Austen's house in Chawton.
