WE ARE A GENERATION THAT WILL NEVER COME BACK.
A generation that walked to school and then walked back.
A generation that did their homework alone to get out asap to play in the street.
A generation that spent all their free time in the streets with their Friends.
A generation that played hide and seek when dark.
A generation that made mud cakes.
A generation that collected sports cards.
A generation that found, collected and washed & Returned empty coke bottles to the local grocery store for 5 cents each , then bought a Mountain Dew and candy bar with the money.
A generation that made paper toys with their bare hands.
A generation who bought vinyl albums to play on record players.
A generation that collected photos and albums of clippings of their life experiences as a Kid.
A generation that played board games and cards on rainy days.
A generation whose TV went off at midnight after playing the National Anthem.
A generation that had parents who were there.
A generation that laughed under the covers in bed so parents didn't know we were still awake.
A generation that is passing and unfortunately it will never return no matter how hard we try.

something truly remarkable unfolded in our very own community, highlighting the incredible compassion and generosity that can be found in the hearts of our local law enforcement officers. Let us take a moment to share this beautiful story with you.

SGT McCoy, a dedicated member of our DeSoto County Sheriff's Department, encountered a man named Dan Williams, 57 years old, who was down on his luck and hungry, sitting in front of Wendy's in Horn Lake. Without hesitation, SGT McCoy extended a helping hand and invited Mr. Williams inside to share a meal.

However, something extraordinary occurred. The Wendy's management, moved by this act of kindness, refused to let SGT McCoy pay for the meal. Instead, they covered the cost, exemplifying the unity and support that exists within our community.

As they sat down to eat, SGT McCoy learned that Mr. Williams had no money or phone, and he had been hitchhiking from Ohio with the sole purpose of reaching his family in Monroe, Louisiana. Recognizing Mr. Williams' genuine goodness, SGT McCoy decided to rally his fellow deputies, Brea, Garrett, and Andrews, to lend a helping hand.

Together, they pooled their personal funds and purchased an $89.00 Greyhound bus ticket for Mr. Williams, ensuring he could safely reunite with his family. Additionally, they provided him with an extra $60.00 for food and other necessities during his journey. When SGT McCoy dropped him off at the bus station in Memphis, TN, an overwhelming surge of emotions overcame Mr. Williams, leading him to express his gratitude through tears. He looked at SGT McCoy and uttered these profound words, "Out of all of the people that reached out to help me in my time of need, it was the cops. Thank you!!"

This heartfelt incident serves as a reminder that these acts of kindness are not isolated events. Every day, law enforcement officers throughout our county and our nation extend their support to those in need, often without recognition, because it is their duty and their calling. We couldn't be prouder to have these brave men and women protecting and serving our community.
