ROGER GLOVER of Deep Purple took the time to chat with me at the YES/DEEP PURPLE bill this weekend at PNC. Great chap and a really nice chat! (RG had actually watched the Steve Morse episode of The ProgCast!! BOTH bands were incredible, playing with a bit of a chip on their shoulder, and it landed heavily with this long-time rock nerd. YES drummer Jay Schellen completely nailed this music, giving it a renewed level of energy. Hope to have both on The ProgCast very soon!
RICHARD LEO JOHNSON is a one-of-a-kind guitar maverick who's carved out his own turf in the wide-world of extended acoustic guitar technique. Self-taught and visually-oriented (Rich is widely-acknowledged as an important architectural photographer) RLJ and I made a concept album, "Who Knew Charlie Shoe" (Cuneiform) some years ago and we've toured extensively as a duo, opening for the likes of KING CRIMSON and the Tony Levin Band. Lots of stories about that and more.

Things got a little out of hand at Sunhillow Sound this weekend! Guitar wizard Tim Motzer and I recorded the follow-up to our recent 1krecordings release, THE ETERNAL - available on BandCamp. I got into many textural ideas from my sound world not covered on previous recordings. Have this session mixed soon. It was an amazing experience to take it to the next level with Tim.

What a complete mind-blowing and emotional experience to spend a few days with Steve Morse and the Dregs guys over the last week.
