🎁🎁🎁 get out your holiday wishlist because this episode is full of stuff you’re gonna want this year!

Today I’m sharing with you my conversation with Kristen Watkins She’s is the Frederick, MD Store Lead at one of the Country’s best running stores, . She’s also a coach, runner and creative gift giver. Together we come up with some clever ideas for every kind of runner!

In the episode, we start off talking about our best and worst gifts (as a giver and receiver) and then roll into this year’s hottest gift ideas. I even made my own wish list for my friends and family after hearing some of Kristen’s ideas.

Have you ever considered purchasing a training program as a gift? That was just one of many of Kristen’s ideas for new runners. And for our Maryland and Delaware listeners, Charm City Run offers many winter programs starting in January. These programs include:

- Supported group runs and workouts twice a week
- Weekly training plans
- Access to expert coaching services
- Gait Analysis
- Discounts at CCR stores and signature races
- Training premium
- And more!

Go to https://www.charmcityrun.com/training/ to learn more!

Thanks for tuning in! If you like today’s episode please share, subscribe to the show and leave us a review.

Thanks everyone!

**Check out the new episode on the podcast!**

Jeff Humphrey is an ultra runner and running coach but the "old Jeff" was a binge eater, drinker and consumption connoisseur - as he puts it. At his heaviest he weighed 452 lbs but running helped him loose over 200 lbs, twice! He believes running can help pull us out of our darkest places, and that success means never giving up.

His story teaches us that consistency is key, and everyday is an opportunity to get closer to our goals.

Follow Jeff to learn more about and support him!

Have a great run everybody!

Today's episode features Dr. Delaine Fowler President of Accelerate Therapy and Performance. While her practice focuses heavily on individuals she calls "industrial athletes" (those who work in physically demanding work settings), she has a lot of information for runners and is an experienced runner and triathelete herself. We discuss the interesting work she does with corporate clients, marathoning, and her best tips for moving better in everyday life.

Jeff Cunningham is one of the best running coaches in America coaching some of the top athletes in the country but what I love about him is that he recognizes all athletes and finds goals from completing your first marathon to qualifying to for the olympic trials worthy of his time and won’t let anyone tell him otherwise.

In this episode we cover, what makes a good athlete, why it’s important to respect the marathon distance and how running can help …the world.

I’m honored to share Jeff with you and know you’re going to be inspired to reach your running potential after listening to this conversation.

Matt Johnson is a badass runner 🤘🏻inspiring the community with his grit and determination. He's an athlete who talks the talk and consistently does what he says he’s going to do because that’s just who he is 😏

Besides being a dope soul 🙏🏻 Matt has an incredible list of achievements including his most recent finish at the Leadville 100 😳
…Oh, and he also has an adorable soft spot for his mom 🫶🏻

This episode was recorded just 3 weeks before Matt’s Leadville finish. Listen in 🎧 to hear his story, how he prepared to persevere, and why he thinks speaking up 📣 about your goals is the secret to success.

We kick the episode off with some choice swear words so sensitive ears beware 😇

What’s it like to be a highly sensitive person in a community that thrives on deeply emotional experiences?

That’s what my guest, Jamie DePaola , and I explore in today’s episode

Jamie is a fellow empath, and is also a clairvoyant, and ultra marathon runner.

From the moment I saw her, I felt like we’d known each other for my entire life! Some people even say we even look alike with similar mannerisms.

Maybe it’s no wonder I found her aura refreshing but I’ve no doubt you're going to catch all the feels during this conversation.

Jamie’s energy is contagious and her heart is warm and welcoming and I can’t wait to share her with you.

Slide 2: Jamie and the woman, Kristin, who helped her cross the finish line of her first marathon.

Today, I’m speaking with Elite Ultra Runner, Don Reichelt. He recently ran 250 miles in his longest run yet but it was his multi-record breaking 24 hour treadmill run that had me the most curious about his special kind of crazy! 😋

In this episode we cover what makes people like Don capable of the hard to imagine and why they do it. We also hear his advice for anyone taking on their version of hard, and why we shouldn’t let anyone make us feel like running needs to be anything other than what we need it to be in our lives.

This conversation was so much fun, and I even learned the difference between a manual and electric treadmill. Who knew? Ha ha. I hope you find this episode interesting and inspiring.

Thanks to Don for joining us. Be sure to check out all his latest adventures at on instagram.

Excited to share John Kelly on the “Maybe Running Will Help?” Podcast. He is one of the most respected competitors in the ultrarunning community.

John is a two-time finisher of the infamous Barkley Marathons. One of only seventeen people to finish and one of only three people to finish more than once!

In this conversation we discuss the mentality that leads to his success, and of course why running helps transform our lives.

There's a saying "Sobriety isn't for those who need it. It's not for people who want it. It's for people who do it."

Today, you’re going to hear an incredible running story. After two years of sobriety from he**in and m**h, our guest rediscovered his love for running and 5 years later (this past December) he qualified for the Olympic Marathon Team Trials.

Mitch Ammons was a bad drug addict and today we’re going to discuss how he found redemption through our sport.
We kick off the episode discussing pre-race nerves and training before exploring his past and why he strives to give hope to anyone struggling to see to the other side of addiction. Thanks for joining us, Mitch!

Today we’re talking about diversity in our sport with Philly Race Director, Running USA Board Member, and owner of All Fitness Events, Kathleen Titus

Kathleen and I met last May at the Buffalo Marathon and remained in touch bonding over a passion for running and how to make a difference in the community. I invited her on the show as a friend and someone I admire and respect, but I had no idea we’d dive into this topic of inclusion in our sport and how leaders like her are working to ensure everyone feels represented at our races.

As the city that loves you back, it’s no wonder Kathleen was chosen as race director for the Philly marathon.  She is all about returning the love she feels for this sport and our athletes.

I can’t wait to share her with you!

Please not that we will be covering the topic of transgender athletes in sport and there have been a few developments to this rapidly evolving topic since we recorded…including the World Athletics ban on transgender women from competing in female world ranking events  that goes into effect today March, 31st.

Today, March 31st, is also International Transgender Day of Visibility. And while there is still much to learn when it comes to understanding the conflicting needs and rights between different groups, I believe everyone deserves to feel like they belong in our community and am honored to be connected with people like Kathleen who are dedicated to being a voice that inspires change for the benefit of those who need to be seen.

Hope you find this episode inspiring!

He’s the man when it comes to how and why the human body looks and functions the way it does!

He is most well known for his interest in how evolutionary approaches to activities such and walking and running, as well as changes to our body’s environments can help better prevent and treat musculoskeletal diseases.

Listen in to learn how running “works” for us, why it’s so hard to get started, and what benefits it has on our community. We also discuss super shoes, the Boston marathon, and what not to say to new runners!

I’m so honored to share him with you!

At 13, Cole Cosgrove is the youngest guest we’ve ever had on the show. His coach, Sam Lomax, raves on social media that he is the next super star.

Cole consistently places first in his age group but what got my attention was his presence among the running community. The mutual respect between him and the other athletes. The respect reserved for those of us who always take our next best step. The respect shared between runners of every age.

He is proof that sport is the true equalizer and racing is where we meet on common ground.

On this episode we talk to him and his parents, Matthew and Kara Cosgrove, about running and learn what drives Cole's passion for excellence at such a young age.
