2021 Nissan GT-R T-Spec First Look: The Greatest Hits Edition? Just a few months ago we told you about the NISMO Special Edition Nissan GT-R and most assumed that would be the last of the current iteration of the long-running performance flagship. But wait, we were wrong! Yet another limited-edition R35 GT-R was just announced, and the designers pulled out all the stops to not only maintain the car's stellar track performance but also pay homage to some well-known hero cars.

Raiding The Parts Bin
Dubbed the Nissan GT-R T-Spec, this latest limited production model is armed with wider front fenders courtesy of the Track Edition that you might remember from years ago, a carbon-fiber rear spoiler, blacked-out hood ducts, and of course, T-spec badging to flex on those general release GT-R owners who might spot you on the road.

Under those widened fenders you'll find gold-colored forged-aluminum wheels produced by the Japanese wheel giant, Rays. Behind the lightweight rollers, fade-resistant carbon ceramic brake rotors are deployed and keep their cool thanks to the included air ducts borrowed from the GT-R NISMO.

Perhaps the most striking part of this model is the choice of colors being offered. Nissan aficionados are all too familiar with coveted Millennium Jade originally used on the R34 GT-R V-Spec II Nur, which just so happens to be one of the rarest in the GT-R lineage. Just over 700 models were ever produced and of that bunch, only 156 were draped in the classy green-ish hue.

The second paint option for the T-Spec model is Midnight Purple which Nissan says is a play on the color-shifting Midnight Purple III found on the R34 V-Spec, of which only 132 versions were ever created; it was followed up in 2014 with the Special Edition Midnight Opal R35 GT-R, limited to only 100 units, only half of which went to the U.S. Both colors have been borrowed countless times across the enthusiast spectrum and are arguably as iconic as the cars themselves.

Should you be lucky enough to nab one of these collectibles, you'll find yourself surrounded by a Mori Green interior, a quilted faux suede headliner, premium semi-aniline leather-appointed seating complete with pearl suede accents, and of course some T-Spec badging.

2021 Kia Sorento SX AWD Long Term Test Arrival Can't blame you if the Sorento hasn't crossed your mind recently. It doesn't help that Kia's made forgetting it easy. The smaller Sportage, though old, looks cooler. Then the larger Telluride went and won MotorTrend's 2020 SUV of the Year competition. Where's the Sorento been? Stuck in the middle; we drove the third-generation model only twice since its 2016 launch. Hasn't much crossed our minds, either.

Bam—enter the fourth-generation Sorento, fully redesigned for 2021. If we didn't spend much time thinking about the Sorento before, we won't have that option now. We just got one for a yearlong test.

The new Sorento etched itself into our memories even before we knew it was joining our long-term fleet. If the outgoing model looked puffy and anonymous, the new one is anything but. Between its angular LED headlights and split taillights, the chiseled, edgy body is packed with details. For the first time, a Sorento is an SUV we actually want to be seen in.

That's especially true of this particular Sorento, finished in Crystal Beige paint. Terrific color, terrible name. Several people have commented that it makes them think of a washed-up adult entertainer. Among MTers it has gained the nickname "Sorentoro Elios" in tribute to Oro Elios, a lovely Lamborghini paint with a similar golden hue. Whatever it's called, it's eye-catching without being excessive, highlighting the body's edges while contrasting against our car's blacked-out window trim and wheels.

Those 20-inch rollers are standard on our SX-trim Sorento, which has a 2.5-liter turbocharged I-4 making 281 hp and 311 lb-ft of torque. It's joined to an eight-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission, and we opted for all-wheel drive (an $1,800 upgrade). In our previous experience, this powertrain didn't leave a great impression. Quickness isn't the issue; 60 mph arrives in 6.4 seconds. Rather, the transmission's bungling low-speed behavior makes pulling away smoothly or maneuvering into parking spaces annoying. We'll be eager to see if this behavior improves over time, or if we learn to coax the dual-clutch into cooperation with experience.

2021 Audi E Tron Sportback Review | FIRST LOOK The 2021 Audi E-Tron Sportback breaks both new and familiar ground. German brands have been taking conventional two-box crossovers and trimming them down to craft more evocative and interesting shapes for years now, but the E-Tron Sportback is the first electric crossover to adopt the automotive mullet.

This not-so-novel approach has yielded familiar results. The E-Tron Sportback is more pleasant to look at, a bit less practical, and otherwise drives similarly to its conventionally styled sibling. Its bigger issue is that the market for EVs is far different now, and the E-Tron will need more than good looks to compete against both newer competitors like the BMW iX and Ford Mustang Mach-E GT and old rivals like the Tesla Model X.

The regular Audi E-Tron is a handsome car, with good proportions and a pleasant face. The Sportback treatment elevates the exterior design, though, with the fastback roofline and short rear deck creating a far more attractive profile. The E-Tron is a relatively large, heavy vehicle, and yet the new roofline dramatically reduces the visual mass, making this EV look smaller than it is. It wasn't until we parked the Audi next to the Polestar 2 we were testing concurrently (and which you can read all about here) that we realized how large this Audi really is.

The roofline looks broadly similar ahead of the B-pillar, but plunges down rather aggressively rear of there. It's less like the stubby fastback you see on the Audi Q5/SQ5 Sportback or Porsche Cayenne Coupe, and more like the traditional Sportback body found on the A5 or A7 family. Either approach would have improved the E-Tron's profile, but the sleeker design serves this larger vehicle well. Considering the E-Tron was always a bit shorter vertically than more traditional CUVs, the Sportback treatment makes it look more like a slightly lifted sedan.

Despite the flashier exterior, the E-Tron Sportback's cabin is identical to its conventional sibling. In other words, it's beautiful. While there remains a bit too much piano black, the application of it, combined with the use of leather, aluminum accents, and matte woods offsets the substantial amount of plastic.

The designs themselves are pleasing, too. The throttle-like shifter feels like it came from the bridge of the starship Enterprise, as do the twin displays on the center stack and the digital cluster. The four-spoke steering wheel is lovely too, and feels very natural to hold. Yoke-like wheels like this and their two-spoke counterparts are catching on in luxury applications and we couldn't be happier to see something beyond the usually arrangement at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock.

2021 Acura TLX Type S Review | INTERIOR And EXTERIOR Historically, Acura Type S models were only marginally more sporting than the workaday versions, so as not to infringe on the Type R ideal of all-out performance. But what Acura has done with the 2021 TLX Type S, the first in a reborn line of Type S-badged cars that includes versions of the new MDX SUV and the NSX supercar, moves the needle much closer to Type R territory without sacrificing what makes a Type S approachable and livable.

Not only is the TLX Type S a serious performer, it's also far and away the best version of the TLX you can buy. When we tested the 2021 TLX A-Spec at our Car of the Year competition, we said it had the right moves, and despite not putting up big numbers, it could still hang with the best when it came to handling and overall feel. The Type S brings the numbers to the party, courtesy of a burlier engine.

Its turbocharged 3.0-liter V-6 makes 355 horsepower and 354 lb-ft of torque, way up from the A Spec's 272 hp and 280 lb-ft. The result is a 0-60-mph sprint of 5.1 seconds and a quarter-mile time of 13.7 seconds at 101.8 mph. That's way down from the A-Spec's 6.1-second sprint to 60, and the gap opens up even further once they reach the end of the quarter. In terms of braking from 60 to 0 mph, the Type S' optional performance tires helped the 4,179-pound car stop in 112 feet—4 feet shy of the 220-pound lighter A-spec car.

Both the A-Spec and the Type S use Acura's Super Handling All-Wheel-Drive (SH-AWD) that can send up to 70 percent of torque to the rear axle and as much as 100 percent of that output to either rear wheel. But Acura has fiddled with the AWD software for the Type S, making it quicker and more eager to engage the rear wheels in the Sport and Sport+ modes, and that makes it noticeably more agile. Around our figure-eight course, a 2020 TLX A Spec needed 26.6 seconds to complete a lap at an average of 0.66 g. The Type S is noticeably quicker at 25.0 seconds, with a significantly grippier 0.75 g average. That's down to both the SH-AWD programming and this model's stickier, $800 Pirelli P Zero tires.

It's worth noting that rivals like the Audi S4, BMW M340i, and Genesis G70 3.3T are all quicker to 60 mph. Simply put, they just launch harder than the Type S does, but once we twisted the steering wheel in the figure-eight test, the Type S outperformed the Audi and tied the BMW. Not bad for something that's down on power to the Bimmer and much heavier than either German.

More important, though, is how this car feels out in the real world. This is a sport sedan, after all, so it should feel like one even in everyday use. And it absolutely does.

The Mercedes-Benz G-Class has become the stuff of legends, and not in the way the German manufacturer ever thought possible. 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan First Drive Review When a person knows they're doing something well, they tend to stick to the approach that got them there. Automakers are no different. It's why vehicles like the Ford F-150, Toyota Camry, and Porsche 911 have successfully soldiered on for decades accomplishing the same mission year after year and generation after generation.

While a far less storied automobile than the F-Series or Carrera, the 2022 Volkswagen Tiguan is a new adherent to this approach. The debut of the second-generation of VW's compact crossover marked a huge step forward at a time when the brand knew little about building high-riders, having only sold the Touareg SUV and the unloved first-gen Tiguan before. This mid-cycle update refines that successful approach with more standard safety gear and technology, as well as light aesthetic touches and more premium interior treatments.

We split our time testing the 2022 Tiguan between the top-end SEL R-Line and the base Tiguan S, and while there are lots of good things happening on the high side, the real story is the base model. Volkswagen Digital Cockpit is now standard equipment for the Tig’s $27,190 starting price, including a $1,195 destination charge, and you can snag an in-car wireless hotspot, too. Paired with the 8.0-inch digital instrument cluster is a smallish 6.5-inch touchscreen infotainment system on the base model.

Neither of the displays here are particularly attractive, though. You'll find higher-definition screens in the Honda CR-V, for example. This shortcoming is particularly unfortunate, because we have no real qualms with the fidelity of the Tiguan's optional 10.0-inch cluster display nor the 8.0-inch touchscreen. We won't accuse VW of cheaping out – a digital cluster on an entry level model is nice – but the grainy screens feel like the result of an accountant saying “Tsk, tsk…”

2022 Subaru WRX First Look We've known since 2017 what the new 2022 Subaru WRX would look like. It's a dead ringer for the Viziv Performance Concept that appeared at the Tokyo Motor Show that year, right down to its relative proportions and character lines. Which is cool, right? Reality often fails to live up to fantasy, so it's a welcome change when an automaker knows all along almost exactly what it wants to deliver to the buying public.

The 2022 Subaru WRX is the fifth generation of the company's famous rally-racing-inspired all-wheel-drive compact sedan, and Subaru wanted to start over. Not so much to redo everything but rather to evolve and mature the 2022 WRX. It appears to have accomplished its mission thanks to a new, larger-displacement engine; stouter underpinnings; and a list of improvements and expansions that include a new sporty GT trim.

2022 Polestar 2 Single Motor First Drive Review The year 2017 was massive for Polestar. The Swedish carmaker decided to announce its presence with a plug-in hybrid, carbon fiber–bodied supercar featuring a twin-charged engine and stunning silhouette. While it was far from a sales success, the Polestar 1 did exactly what it was supposed to do: It got people talking.

The brand's second model, the Polestar 2, arrived shortly after as a mass-market–friendly five-door hatchback. Unlike its muscle-car sibling, the Polestar 2 lacked an internal combustion engine entirely, solidifying the brand's commitment to battery electric vehicles. With a dual-motor setup and nearly $60,000 price tag, the Polestar 2 was a solid first attempt, but it carried a significant price premium over the segment's reigning champ, the Tesla Model 3.

I recently went out to New Mexico to drive what might be the brand's golden goose, the 2022 Polestar 2 Single Motor. Aside from losing the electric motor on its rear axle, this new variant gets a massive $14,000 price cut over last year's dual-motor offering (which also gets $10,000 cheaper for 2022).

World's biggest plane Antonov An 225 Mriya The wide body Antonov An-225 is powered by six turbofan engines and is the longest and heaviest airplane ever built, with a maximum takeoff weight of 640 tonnes. It was built to carry Soviet space shuttles and, 27 years after it entered service, it's still the world's biggest plane. The An-225, better known as the Mriya (Ukrainian for "dream") creates a fuss wherever it goes. Measuring 84 m long with an 88 m wingspan, it weighs 175 tonnes without cargo or fuel. It's the longest-bodied, longest-winged and heaviest operational plane in the world. Its cargo compartment is 43 m by 6.4 m by 4.4 m - big enough to hold 50 cars. And there is only one operational Antonov An-225 in the world! Designed in Ukraine to carry the Soviet Buran space shuttle on its back, it made its first flight in 1988, coming into service the next year. There were plans to build several more An-225s but these were scuppered by the fall of the Soviet Union and the collapse of the shuttle program. Lately, Mriya has been making deliveries once - maybe twice - a year. The six-engine An-225 can carry a payload of up to 250 tonnes, compared with 140 tonnes for the Boeing 747-800 and 65 tonnes for the Airbus 330. To carry all that weight Antonov An-225 has 32 wheels spread across its oversized landing gear. Also, its nose opens to allow cargo loading through the front end. Fans also like the design of Mriya's split tail. The DBX comes standard with a 12.3-inch fully digital gauge cluster, customizable ambient lighting, three-zone climate control, and heated front and rear seats. Its top options include ventilated front seats, a heated steering wheel, and a variety of even fancier cabin materials. Rear-seat space is ample, with plenty of knee- and headroom for adult occupants. There's good cargo space, too, with 22 cubic feet of space behind the rear seat and 54 cubic feet with the rear seats folded. While every model has a large 10.2-inch infotainment screen, it doesn't respond to touch inputs. Instead, the unit is based on an obsolete Mercedes interface and is controlled through steering-wheel controls as well as a rotary k**b on the center console—an integrated touchpad is optional. The DBX does include popular features, such as Apple CarPlay, built-in navigation, a 14-speaker audio system, and several USB and 12-volt charging outlets. All New 2021 Lexus LM 300h USA - Bast Luxury Hybrid Lexus has announced that it will debut its first-ever minivan at the Shanghai Auto Show later this week. Named the Lexus LM, the ultra-luxury minivan has switched focus from the western idea that people-haulers are about practicality, and instead embraced it as a luxurious multi-purpose vehicle with an interior that just won't quit. The LM appears to be, for all intents and purposes, an upscale rebrand of Toyota's already snazzy Alphard. Except, instead of featuring three rows of seats, the LM takes the rear two-thirds of the MPV and turns it into a business-class suite-on-wheels. Four total occupants can be seated in the LM which will be showcased at Shanghai—two in the front and two in the rear behind a privacy wall. Lexus specifically designed the LM to be spacious, equipping the minivan with everything to support the needs of the "urban, business-focused professional." Two plush executive seats crafted from low-density urethane sit in the rear of the lounge. They place the passengers in a "relaxing, private environment" curated to look like a small office or meeting space without compromising comfort.
