The Managing Director, CSE Records, Onyekachukwu Mba, aka Don Lamba, on Tuesday, said music artistes should not let fame get in the way of them honouring their contractual agreements with their respective record labels.
Mba, while speaking with Midweek Exclusive, said it was important for artistes to remember their humble beginnings and be patient in the quest to actualise their dreams in the music industry.
The music executive said, “When you sign artistes from the street, they have no fame and are yet to start making money, but when they see opportunity, they think that life is about money and fame. But life is beyond that; I always tell people that what you think you have may not be what you need in life.
“Sometimes, it is all about them putting themselves in the shoes of the other person. However, at our label, we organised a talent hunt to scout for artistes and signed two artistes, Mofizzay and 3ple B. We also took the extra measures of ensuring that we deal with the artistes’ personal names and not their stage names.
“We made sure that everything about the agreement is ironed out properly and they were carried along in all the process. My advice to young artistes out there is that they should be patient because life has processes. When they follow the processes of life, they will get there.
“Fame should not deprive artistes from honouring their contractual agreements with their record labels. They should reflect back to the days when they were nobody and remember the sacrifices made for them, the sweat and the money invested in their talents before they gained prominence.”
