"Armed with this knowledge, we can take action. We can vote for legislators who support alternatives to pesticides. We can purchase local, pesticide-free food from farmer’s markets, or we can buy organic food. We can have pesticide-free lawns and gardens to keep toxic chemicals out of our soil and our waterways.

Here in Maryland, our State House grounds are a model for successful pesticide-free lawn care — the organically maintained grounds optimize carbon sequestration. We applaud the Moore administration for continuing to maintain the grounds without pesticides.

We know that climate change is already affecting Maryland. We also know how to preserve the health and safety of our families, ecosystems, and food supply. Gov. Wes Moore said it best: “Confronting climate change represents another chance for Maryland to lead.”

Some of the substances we use to kill pests and weeds are key contributors to climate change, write a farmer and a public health professor.

What an easy and practical way to 'save the world' for wildlife in need!

We love reuse ideas like this!

Do not throw away your mascara wands. Instead, clean the wands with dawn soap, place them in a ziploc bag and mail them to a Wildlife Refuge accepting donations. These little wands are able to be upcycled to clean away oil, larvae, fly eggs, mites, infections, mud and other contaminants from wildlife. Works great for medical care and wound treatment

A new initiative announced in France this month inspired me to write about the joy and art of mending! Really. The French government is paying its citizens to take their shoes and clothes for repair rather than buying new stuff -- it's better for the planet, the wallet and the wardrobe -- check it out 🙂

One component of sustainable fashion which doesn't get the hype it deserves, at least until now in France, is the art and joy of maintenance.

Just a reminder - "In the garbage", means it will end up in a dump or landfill, contaminating our soil, air and water. Burning it means toxins will pollute the air we breath, our soil and eventually our water.

The good news is that each of us can recycle, compost and choose biodegradable packaging over plastic and petroleum based products .

There is no Such thing as away, when we throw anything away it must go somewhere on the Earth 🌏 💔 😢

Chlorpyrifos is not safe for farmworkers, it’s not safe for our children, it’s not safe for YOU.
