Below is some interesting information about the MEME Marketing,
Memes now occupy 80% of your social media timeline. Even if you're not into memes, someone in your circle will definitely be and it will end up showing memes on your feed as well.
Likewise YouTubers & TikTokers, Facebook meme makers haven't been recognised as content creators by masses yet. It's still seen as a leisure activity. In reality, meme makers in Pakistan emerged as trend setters of social media content, similarly like Reddit in the western world.
Due to less recognition as content creators, they haven't received any career/life changing opportunity through their content but what future beholds for them?
As per my observation, it's the next big industry for digital marketers. Meme marketing is the future. Brands on digital platforms are gradually moving from conventional to meme trend marketing since it's what the digital audience love to see.
Talking about big brand names, India's biggest sports league IPL launched their 2020 edition campaign based on social media banter which revolves around meme references. (Link in the comment section). Recently, ICC also used a meme reference of a famous 'disappointed cricket fan guy' when rain disrupted the return of cricket after pandemic and it went viral. The same meme reference was also used in Coca Cola's TVC aired in November 2019.
The trend of memes is taking over brands and it won't be a surprise if in future we see employment opportunities in such category. So the opportunity for meme content creators is finally knocking. It's about time to act smart and encash those skills because which brand doesn't want their content to go viral?
