The SAPS Management in the Northern Cape, welcomed the conviction and sentence handed down by the De Aar Regional Court, to a 42-year-old r**e accused.

The court heard on 28 July 2024, between 15:00 and 16:30, in Carnarvon, the victim (19) was at the accused grandmother's house to ask to use the bathroom.

The victim went into the bathroom, after she was done, the accused came inside the bathroom and pulled her out of the bathroom, and just a few steps away from the bathroom the accused started to undress her.

The victim tried to fight the accused off, but was unsuccessful, resulting in the accused ra**ng her.

The victim underwent medical examination, a case was registered and subsequently, the accused was arrested but released on R500.00 bail by the court.

On Monday, 08 September 2025, the De Aar Regional Court convicted and sentenced, the 42-year-old accused to twelve (12) years' direct imprisonment.
