On Sunday 18th September 2022, it will be ten years since Greater Manchester Police officers Nicola Hughes and Fiona Bone were murdered in a gun and gr***de ambush after they were lured to a house in Manchester, in response to a false report of a burglary.

Policing Insight and Policingtv Publisher Bernard Rix recently met GMP Federation Chair Lee Broadbent, to remember those two officers.

Our Publisher, Bernard Rix, recently met Constable Ian Cocklin, Body Worn Video expert and Staff Officer to the National Police Chiefs'​ Council BWV Portfolio Lead, Deputy Chief Constable Jim Colwell, to record a walk-talk-and-film video, now published on the PolicingTV website.

There was plenty for them to discuss, ahead of the inaugural National BWV User Group meeting, taking place in Exeter on Monday, 10th October, 2022. In early 2020, when the first wave of the Covid pandemic was lapping at the UK’s shores, police leaders already knew that they, and indeed the whole service, would have to respond to an unprecedented threat.

The National Police Chiefs’ Council and the National Police Coordination Centre put in place a plan to ensure that the police service remained resilient and had the capacity to deal with events as they unfolded.

That plan was Operation Talla. The success of Talla was down to officers and staff across the country who innovated and adapted, keeping people safe, and maintaining law and order. Here are some highlights from an awards ceremony held in London to honour those who went above and beyond.
