YANGO, AN INTERNATIONAL RIDE-HAILING SERVICE LAUNCHES IN ZAMBIA

Yango, an international service for ordering rides online, announces its launch in Lusaka, making Zambia the fifth African country where Yango is available.

Yango already operates in 19 countries across Europe, Central Asia, the Middle East and Africa, including Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal. Yango is a part of Yandex, one of the largest European IT companies.

Yango mobile app for iOS and Android is available for free download in English, and many other languages. To order a car, users download the app, open it and specify where they want to go. When geolocation is enabled, the service pinpoints where the user is and finds the nearby driver who will arrive the fastest.

Yango is a cash-only service now, so when a user orders a car, they input their destination address and the app algorithms automatically calculate the price of the trip ahead of time. Prices for rides in Lusaka ordered with Yango start at 40 ZMW, which is about the cost of a ride from Manda Hills Mall to East Park Mall.

If a user needs more information, has a question, or even forgets something in the car, he or she can contact a dedicated support team through the app. As a means of additional quality control, Yango app allows users to rate each ride, and drivers with low ratings may be denied access to the service for a period of time.

Unlike other online services, the Yango app uses its own mapping, routing, and navigation as well as smart order distribution. These technologies significantly reduce the total cost of the trip and the time a driver spends looking for a customer, heading to the next customer, or driving a customer to his/her destination.

A driver takes rides one by one and can move to the next customer while finishing the current ride, which lowers empty car mileage and as a result, reduces traffic congestion in the city. Yango’s efficient routing and similar technologies ensure efficient use of drivers’ time while providing predictable and affordable service to riders.

"We see great potential in the African market as Zambia becomes the fifth country after Ivory Coast, Ghana, Cameroon and Senegal where we have launched our service. Zambia has a growing, actively developing economy and there is a high demand for a modern ride-hailing service.

As comfort, safety and affordability are among our top priorities, Yango has developed our own security features and technologies that allow both users and drivers to feel safe and at ease during every trip. We are convinced that people in Zambia will appreciate the care and features we have added to our ride-haling service," – Adeniyi Adebayo, General Manager for Yango in Africa.

Yango doesn’t operate its own cars or drivers, but instead, facilitates local transportation providers (companies who provide transportation services independently) to use its services. Along with the app’s launch, a dedicated center for drivers has been opened recently in Lusaka. Drivers currently working with our partners can learn how to work with the app and go through training and tests.

LUSAKA'S KANYAMA LANDLORD FORGIVES 5 MONTHS RENTALS AFTER BEING CAUGHT WITH TENANT’S WIFE

A Landlord in Lusaka’s Kanyama area has been forced to forgo rentals owed to him by his tenant for five months, after being caught in a sexual act.

According to the eyewitness who told Mwebantu news, he says on Saturday last week, the husband to a woman in question, who is a security guard received a call from his neighbor who informed him that his wife was spotted drinking at Kwa Mukupa lodge in Soweto with their landlord.

The man rushed to the place and found that his wife and the landlord were not anywhere but after inquiring from people around, he was told that they had entered into one of the rooms. When shown the room, the man knocked on the door after which his landlord appeared half-dressed.

Upon realizing that the owner of the woman had probably realized what was going on, the landlord tried to escape but could not escape from the hands of his angry tenant who began shouting hule! Hule! Hule! thereby attracting a crowd.

A NDOLA-based woman who claims that Bowman Lusambo fathered her four children is demanding K13,900 as child maintenance per month, Mwebantu reports.

The woman is also demanding that Lusambo pays her K7,000 every six months for the children's clothing.

According to an affidavit in support of summons for affiliation and maintenance filed in the Lusaka High Court, Mercy Matongo Cowham wants the court to order Lusambo to be maintaining the children with K5,000 for food, K3,500 groceries, rental K5,000, water bills K200, electricity K200 which comes to K13,900 per month.

Mercy stated that in addition to the children’s monthly expenses, she is seeking an order that Lusambo should be contributing K7,000 every six month for the children’s clothing.

She submitted that this was proper case for the court to make an order for affiliation and maintenance of the children.

And Mercy stated that she was currently squatting at her grandmothers house in Chipata, Eastern province with the children due to lack of financial support from Lusambo.

In this case, Lusambo who is the former member of Kabushi parliamentary seat following the nullification of his seat, sued Mercy in the High Court.

He is seeking an order that a Deoxyribonucleic acid (DNA) test be conducted on the children to ascertain their parternity.

Lusambo is also demanding damages for libel from Mercy.

He further wants the court to order Mercy to retract and apologize your to him of her statements in question, costs and any other reliefs the court might deem fit.

But Mercy in her affidavit maintained that she has been in an on and off sexual relationship with Lusambo from 2014 to date.

Mercy explained that from 2015 to sometime in 2018, Lusambo would maintain her and the children once in a while by providing all the necessities.

"Since July 2010, the plaintiff completely stopped maintaining the children and has refused to do so despite being reminded of his obligations on numerous occasions," she alleged.

Mercy added that lack of support has caused great hardship on the children and that she has been struggling to provide for them without any support from their father

She wants the court to order Lusambo

to be providing for all the monthly expenses, including accommodation and pay all water and electricity bills.
