Lycian rock tombs
Dalyan, Turkey
We spent one of our days in Turkey on a river boat, travelling to a number of tourist destinations, including to a mud bath and Turtle Beach. As we turned a bend in the river on our journey, we were met with this fascinating sight.
These rock-hewn tombs were designed to honour and protect the souls of the deceased Lycian people, who played a crucial role in their descendents' lives, allowing ancestors to maintain status in the afterlife. The elaborate nature of the tombs is a reflection of the importance of the individual buried within. The honoured dead were burning into cliffsides to give them a higher location and make them closer to heaven.

Wow!! Such a small milestone to many, but one that we are proud of.. Thank you to everyone that has followed us, old and new, love to you all 🙏
We said that when we hit 500 that we would introduce ourselves, so here we are...
Karl and Caroline - soulmates, who found each other a little later in life, on a mission to escape Groundhog Day and see the world.
While I work as a rubber worker for a well-known, French tyre company (guesses in the comments 🤣), Caroline is a never-off-duty Year 6 teacher: sometimes I swear she loves that class more than me! Finding time to travel is hard (and expensive in school holidays!) What makes it even more tricky is the mass of children we are lucky to call our own - all 5 of the beauties.
We don't have a plan when it comes to the thing we love to do most; travel. We take the chances we can, when we can. Because, why not? We've both learnt the hard way that life is for living (but we'll save that story for our next milestone 😊).
Starting with our very first trip abroad in 2019 to Prague (where we soon found out Caroline is terrified of plunging to her death in an aeroplane crash ✈️), we've never looked back. We've ventured as far north as Iceland and south to Egypt but our journey is far from over. Bring on the next adventure! 15 days and counting ❤️

Reynisfjara Beach 🇮🇸
Reynisfjara is a world-famous black-sand beach found on the South Coast of Iceland, just beside Vik í Myrdal, which is the southernmost village on the mainland of Iceland.
Known as one of the most dangerous places in Iceland, the powerful ocean currents can drag you in towards where the ocean floor deepens rapidly. I might have let out a little scream or too when Karl got far too close to those mighty waves! 😅😅

Urridafoss waterfall 🇮🇸
Urridafoss waterfall has one of the biggest wild salmon stock in Iceland. More water flows over the Urridafoss waterfalls in the Thjorsa river than any other Icelandic waterall. Thjorsa river is majestic and is the longest river in Iceland or about 230 km from source to sea.

Skógafoss 🇮🇸
Skógafoss is one of Iceland’s biggest and most beautiful waterfalls with an astounding width of 25 meters (82 feet) and a drop of 60 meters (197 feet).
Unfortunately we were unable to walk behind due to the ice making it unsafe.
My amateur mistake of leaving our nd filter on the bus meant the long exposure has unfortunately blown the highlights in the waterfall.

Harpa Concert Hall - Reykjavik
Opened in 2011 Harpa is one of Reykjavik's most striking landmarks. It is the culture and social centre for the city.
Home to the Icelandic Symphony Orchestra, Icelandic Opera and Reykjavík Big Band, which hold regular concerts throughout the year.

Back home after the most life-changing getaway to Iceland 💙♥️ we saw everything we didn't manage to see last time - waterfalls, the geysirs, the black sand beach, whales and even the northern lights! We ate mouthwatering food, scrambled up ice and snow to see the sights, and stroked copious amounts of Icelandic, four-legged animals 😍 We will share our breathtaking experiences with you over the coming weeks

I've been on survival mode the past couple of weeks, trapped in monotony and letting myself drown in the events of Groundhog Day. I'd forgotten all the things that make me smile: family, adventure and the outdoors.
When you're feeling like this, it's so easy to curl up and just survive. But what eventually breaks the cycle is to step outside that door, outside of your comfort zone, and to never give up on you.
This wonderful human being is always here to remind me of all of the good in the world 💛 I can't wait to escape with you again.

~ Isle of Bute, Scotland 🏴 ~
A smooth ferry crossing over from Wemyss Bay and we were met by the little town of Rothesay.
First on our list was a walk up Serpentine Road🐍. With over a dozen hairpin bends, Rothesay has it's own little bit of San Fransisco. You could be waiting a while to see a car drive up or down it though!
Over to Rothesay Castle. This well-preserved piece of history dates back to the early 13th century; it was built by the Stewarts to defend against invading Norwegian fleets. Disappointing that it was closed to visitors but it was definitely a highlight of our day trip.
We ended our afternoon watching the ferries come and go across the Firth of Clyde and sending the drone up for a few cheeky shots.
Definitely worth some time out to enjoy the (sometimes choppy) ride over the Firth, and some picturesque, instagrammable sights to see 👍
