That feeling when the universe calls you “Mr., half ass.“

So this morning I’m feeling a tad flustered with a million things that I need to do and I’m bouncing back and forth between tasks in a bit of a frenzy. I realize I haven’t eaten anything yet, so I reach for a banana. As God as my witness, whilst devouring said banana, I notice my untouched badass calendar affirmation, rip off the top sheet and I read this.”

Touché universe. Touché. 😂

Divorce is both an ending and a beginning, especially when children are involved. Join me in this week’s episode, The Top 8 Tips for Co-Parenting Success Post Divorce, as I unravel the complex web of maintaining a child-centered focus during and after custody splits. With guidance from research by Gritsch, Fincham, and the Gottman Institute, this episode shares eight critical strategies that prioritize your kids’ emotional well-being. Steve talks about why it’s crucial to steer clear of negative talk about your ex in front of the children, how to communicate effectively, and the profound influence of kindness on your family’s future dynamic.

Transitioning to co-parenting doesn’t have to be a battleground; it can be a path to personal growth and fortified resilience. Here on Better Place Project, we discuss not just the challenges but the opportunities that kindness and cooperation bring to the forefront in post-divorce family life. This journey through compassion and mutual respect isn’t just about making life smoother for your children—it’s about setting an example that will echo into their adult lives. Together, let’s explore how these small acts of kindness ripple outward, crafting a world that’s just a little bit brighter for everyone involved.

I’m out for an early morning walk on one of my last few days in Illinois, and like I do on every visit, I stop to read each and every one of these signs. They are located just one short block away from Abraham Lincoln’s historical home here.

I am proud to have grown up here in the Land of Lincoln, and Illinois and all of America should forever be proud of all that he did, and future generations will certainly learn about Lincoln’s heroism.

But we must forever own our dark history as well. We must forever teach our children what our ancestors did, no matter how horrifying.

Only by facing our past with honesty and integrity, can we truly heal as a nation.

Was out for a walk today and went down a street I’ve never been on. In front of a house, I came across this little sign by the sidewalk, along with various rocks with motivational messages.

I felt drawn to the rock in slide 2. It made me smile as I carried it and kept looking at it while I continued my walk. It’s now sitting on my desk filling me with inspiration. 😊

Now I’m having some fun thinking about what I can paint on a rock and return and leave it to hopefully brighten someone else’s day.

Thank you to the beautiful soul(s) who created this little exchange of joy. 🙏🏻❤️

Many years ago I read Eckhart Tolle’s book The Power of Now and it changed my life.

but my “journey to the present“ has been a spiraling path with many failures along the way… No matter how much we practice mindfulness, it’s far too easy to let our thoughts of regret shoot us backwards through the past, or our thoughts of worry, propel us to an illusionary future.

however, in an instant, we can always go back to the only place in time that truly exists….the present moment.

all it takes is stopping to pay attention to your breath, noticing a squirrel, climbing a tree, picking up a guitar, taking a walk in the woods, building a sand castle with your child and noticing, and feeling, their joy.

Let’s celebrate the end of the week by being present today.

I would love it if you would, below and let me know one tiny little thing you are doing today to be present.

have a wonderful weekend, everybody!

Finally getting around to posting about my retreat at last week. It was an experience that I will never forget.

I am still down in Costa Rica beginning the integration process and enjoying the beauty of this magical place.

I will be back soon and can’t wait to share with all of you my experience in an upcoming solo episode of the podcast. Thank you for your patience while I continue to stay relatively disconnected from social media for a little while longer.

Much peace and love to you all. 🙏🏻❤️

Hi all! Quick update/share. The reason i have been really quiet on the social media front of late is because I am down in Costa Rica at doing my first ayahuasca retreat. I’ve talked about it a lot on the show and I have finally taken the plunge.

We did our first ceremony last night and it was AMAZING!!

Drop a ❤️ in the comments if you’ve done it (how was your experience?) before or are curios to try it. I’d love to hear your feedback.

no new episodes for the next couple of weeks as I complete this retreat, and then spend next week down in South Costa Rica surfing! 🏄🏽‍♂️

i’ll try and post some more pics and I will be doing a solo episode soon telling you all about my experience.

Love & light to you all! 🙏🏻💚❤️

How can we create a better world for ourselves, our children, and our grandchildren, if we make poor choices in the person who is to lead us?

Donald J. Trump is the biggest threat to democracy in the history of the United States. He is now leading Joe Biden in the polls and if he ends up being re-elected, the United States may never be the same again.

In this episode, Steve breaks down the reasons why, with the "Big Lie," 4 criminal indictments and 91 charges, authoritarian wanna be Dictator Donald Trump is not a politician, but a dangerous cult leader causing great harm to America, most likely irreparable harm if he succeeds at becoming president again.

But the solution to this problem is NOT to try and talk to or convince Trump worshipers that he is a dangerous man. That is a plan to fail, and it's far too late for that. But there are other steps that we can take to ensure that our sacred democracy remains in tact. But is it too late?

In this Holiday / Christmas Bonus Episode from 2020, Erin & I chat about our own holiday traditions growing up and what we look forward to the most about the holidays. We even take a trip down memory lane and listen to clips of some Norris original Christmas songs from the 90s and early 2000s. That’s right, we have our own Christmas album. Hehe! Pour yourself some eggnog or hot cocoa and enjoy this holiday special!

In a world that often seems divided by lines drawn in blood and conflict, I find myself at a crossroads. The Israel-Gaza conflict, a longstanding and painful struggle, has once again erupted into headlines and social media feeds. As the world debates and takes sides, I have made my choice, but it's not a choice between Israelis and Palestinians. It's an altogether different choice.

The Israel-Gaza conflict is a deeply complex and emotional issue that has defied resolution for generations. Innumerable lives have been lost, homes destroyed, and families torn apart. The cycle of violence, while it may ebb and flow, persists. It's easy to be swayed by the prevailing narratives and to feel the pressure to pick a side, to become a cog in this destructive cycle.

But I've finally come to the realization that I do need to pick a side. And I choose Love.

Today marks this little guy’s 59th trip around the sun. Yup, I’m THAT old! I’ve been thinking about what I would say to my 5 year-old self if I were given the opportunity to sit down with him for a bit.

A few of the most important things I would say are:

1) “Be kinder to yourself, little buddy. You are a special little dude.”
2) “You have some amazing adventures ahead of you. When people tell you you can’t do something, smile, and then go prove them wrong. “
3) “You are going to get hurt along the way by people who care about you. Forgive them. You are also going to hurt other people, many times without even realizing it. Look for the lessons in both cases and do better next time. Be quick to forgive others and be quick to apologize when you’ve hurt others and take steps to make amends. When you do fall short, be quick to forgive yourself.”
4) “Don’t allow fear to dictate your life. Choose love in everything you do.”
5) “The universe is way bigger than you think it is, and your worries are way less important than you think they are.”
6) “Everything is temporary. When you encounter dark days, have faith that sunshine is right around the corner. Things will get better. They always do.”
7) “Do what brings you joy. If it’s not bringing you joy, stop. If you think you need the money, you don’t.”
8) “Don’t settle. Go after the life you want!”
9) “You are love. You are loved.”
10) “You are enough. You always have been and always will be enough.”
11) “You’re going to fall hard for a girl named Cheryl in 7th grade. Don’t ever forget what falling in love feels like.”
12) “Don’t try to save the world. You can’t. But do believe that you can change the world. You can.”

But one thing I think we fail to do is ask the equally important question “What would our 5 year- old self say to us?” See my answer to this question in the comments section below.

And so, wraps up my birthday reflections. But in honor of my birthday, this week’s solo podcast episode will be about my Favorite Tips for Staying Young. That episode drops tomorrow.

In the mean time, if you need me, I’ll be outside chasing sqirrels. 😊

02/10/2023

The reality is that these quotes/messages that I put out there are most often simply me speaking to myself about what is currently going on in my life. Giving myself a pep talk, or a smack down, or some forgiveness, or a “you got this!” reminder. Lately I am seeing ever so clearly how much I’ve ignored messages from the universe over the last few years, or worse yet, looked for false validation to do what my ego wants to do, rather than what is for the greater good of all.

So this week I’m going to STOP ignoring the signs. I’m focusing on surrendering, making every attempt to set the ego aside, observe with an open-minded curiosity, listen to her whispers, and be aware of the little signs that come my way this week. I’ll pay attention, with gratitude, to every single person or animal that crosses my path, for they were meant to. I will not ignore these little miracles this week. I will choose to honor them.

Have a kick-ass week everyone!!!

When you are feeling pain in your life, feel it, honor it, acknowledge it. But also know that as bad as that pain feels right now, you will be ok.

The sun will shine again. Your wings will heal, and you will one day soar above the clouds again.

'Man was made for joy and woe'—these lines remind us that the ebb and flow of happiness and sorrow are part of our human experience. In every moment of pain, there's a thread of joy waiting to be discovered.

So if you are going through a tough time right now, look for that tiny thread of joy to be found woven into your grief or pain, and cling to it.

May you all find countless threads of joy this week!!

It’s been awhile since I’ve done a solo episode, so I thought I’d do one completely focused on one of my favorite topics; Happiness.

Oh Happiness, that elusive state of contentment and joy, has captivated human minds for centuries. Philosophers, poets, and psychologists have all sought to understand its nature and uncover the secrets to attaining it. While the pursuit of happiness might seem like an individual journey, modern science has revealed certain universal keys that can unlock this cherished emotion.

So I wanted to bring to you today, my top ten keys to happiness…AND, I back it up with research that confirms that doing these things will actually make you a happier, healthier person. And these are all simple things we can start doing today!
