The history of the Kurilian Bobtail cat breed:
Kurilian bobtails are naturally occurring cats in the Kuril Islands. “The Kuril Islands or Kurile Islands are a volcanic archipelago administered as part of the Sakhalin Oblast in the Russian Far East. There are 56 islands and many minor islets. They cover an area of around 10503.2 square km” (Wikipedia). Kuril Islands are amongst the top 10 “Most beautiful islands on Planet”. This faraway volcanic island attracts travellers and scientists due to their unusual beauty, amazing landscape, volcanoes and wildlife. In the Kuril Islands one can observe birl colonies, sea seals, whales and dolphins and water rich in fish. The main animals in the island are the brown bears, foxes, rodents and many species of birds. “But there are also unusual short-tailed cats on the Islands, which local residents dubbed Japanese rat catchers for their unique hunting skills. These cats, with their bunny tails and strong hind legs, attracted the attention of the Russian military and scientists working on the islands. Kuril bobtails are unique animals, not only due to their bizarre shortened tails, but also to their wild appearance, which was formed in the harsh nature of the islands of Kuril ridge”
