Season 8 has come to a close! Listen to Laura reflect on each episode and themes that came up this season, which ran from June to November 2023. Listen on Soundcloud, Spotify, or wherever you listen to podcasts.

At the 41:24 mark, Laura switches gears and discusses the ongoing injustices and habitat destruction from the WNY STAMP (Western New York Science & Technology Advanced Manufacturing Park) project in Genesee County, which threatens the Tonawanda Seneca's Big Woods, a biodiverse and culturally significant place. Laura reads the recent article written by Robin Wall Kimmerer, scientist and author of Braiding Sweetgrass: Indigenous Wisdom, Scientific Knowledge, and the Teachings of Plants, titled "Stand for Indigenous Land Justice: Stop STAMP," which was recently published in Yes! Magazine (link in comments).

Thank you for a wonderful season, and see you next year!

Here is Part 2 🌬🌳

"If we are ever going to bring about effective sustainability, so much has to change, but that can't happen until we stop doing the actions that are unsustainable and harmful first. . . "

Here are the second five of the of the "Top Ten Unsustainable Actions that [.m.evans] Want[s] to Stop the Most", which you can find in her new book, "Silent Seasons: Chasing Sustainability through the Law."

From Laura: "I understand that my list of "unsustainable actions" is not what people typically hear or talk about these days, but the purpose of Silent Seasons is to offer a broader perspective on what sustainability really means, and what it will take to live in a sustainable, regenerative society that can support the people who are living today, as well as future generations. Gas stoves are not our biggest problem -- promise."

For a conversation about sustainability in 2023, join Laura this Thursday 2/2/23 at 6pm at Inspiration Point! 🌲💖

Here is the second live Keeping Things Alive Podcast interview with John G Heim, Leader of the Southwest Florida Clean Water Group. John spoke with Laura last year about the Red Tide devastation in South Florida, and is now here to talk about the harrowing aftermath of Hurricane Ian, which hit his home in late September 2022.

John is the 2014 winner of the River Champion award by the Great American Rivers Association based in Washington DC. Has spoken on Capitol Hill about water quality issues six times since 2015. John has spoken at the state Capital of Florida 25 times to pressure politicians on the right for clean water. He is the organizer of the 2018 Death March in Fort Myers Florida, which drew over 8000 people in protest of our water quality. He protested on top of the Matanzas Pass Bridge for 30, 60, and then 90 consecutive days in a row to demand clean water.
