Typically, we seek leadership positions without adequately preparing for the responsibilities that come with them. In a practical context, leadership extends beyond mere positional authority; it is essentially about people. This includes individuals with complex emotions, feelings, needs, desires, challenges, and aspirations. Leadership is about fostering an environment where people feel genuinely cared for, valued, and concerned about their overall well-being, as well as their personal growth and achievements. People seek reassurance that their leaders genuinely care about their well-being and are committed to helping them reach their full potential. This requires empathy and a deep passion for their growth. Consequently, leadership is often described as 20% skill and 80% attitude. While skills can be acquired through learning, attitude is a conscious, lifelong process that cannot be taught in a classroom setting. A lack of genuine concern for others can lead to manipulation and exploitation for personal gain.
