2020 was a year I started pushing hard to try and make something work for me as a creative individual. I decided to go all in. Spun up a YouTube page. Made a twitter account. Spent some time working on overlays and images/branding to really make myself look professional. I put a lot of energy into it.
Unfortunately as much as we can put all our energy into something we can't control luck. You can make all the twitter posts you want. Post all the videos on YouTube you can. And try and make connections with others in your medium. You just can't control luck. Yes there is a lot of "success" in content creation that isn't luck based. But I still strongly feel those first few viewers/subscribers are rooted in luck. Finding those people that actually find you entertaining enough to stick around. Sure grinding year over year will probably net some results and I myself wasn't looking for overnight 4/5 digit viewership. BUT I have been streaming for just over 2 years and my only viewer is a good friend who throws me up in a background tab.
To get to the point, this isn't an I'm quitting post. This is a "streaming-is-now-a-hobby-again" post. I am going to shift to streaming on the weekends and putting my weeknights back to learning some programming languages to hopefully push my day career in a direction I am more happy with. To also spend that time getting better at digital art as well as getting back into guitar.
I'm looking at the branding an imagery I used though, as a reminder of the push. So I want to retire it. I was never good at coming up with nicknames or aliases that truly worked or fit me anyway. So tonight will be my last night streaming as Rumandcola. Tomorrow all my social media will be rebranded with something a bit more personal to me. Just my name. Albeit still a bit of an alias.
But to those that did support me in this year I appreciate you. I still want to game with you and I still hope you hop in and say hi sometime when you do see me streaming on the weekends.
Thanks all,
Eric
