Humanist Vampire Seeking Consenting Suicidal Person (2023)
“From writer/director Ariane Louis-Seize, Humanist Vampire is a cute and clever French Canadian "coming-of-age" film about a 68-year-old vampire named Sasha, whose soft nature prevents her fangs from getting hard. Louis-Seize charmingly evokes the bittersweet and sharply complicated feelings of growing up, with a stylishly supernatural bend. Recommended for a romantic, moody, and comedic Halloween watch.”

Blood Quantum (2019)
“The visionary Blood Quantum succeeds as both a gory genre film and a thematically rich re-examining of colonialism. This well-crafted zombie apocalypse movie was directed, written, and edited by the late Jeff Barnaby. The film took Barnaby 12 years to complete and was released to critical acclaim, including winning seven Canadian Screen Awards. Great for viewers who want a splatter-fest with some depth.”

Black Christmas (1974)
“Developed by Canadian screenwriter Roy Moore, Canadian-produced and filmed in Toronto, Black Christmas is a part of our heritage. According to IMDB, Black Christmas is one of comedian Steve Martin's favourite films (he watched it at least 27 times!), but it's far from funny. This groundbreaking slasher will likely terrify you this Halloween or, at the very least, prod you to start your holiday shopping (eek!).”

Every so often, a film comes around that reinvigorates a limping genre, sending an electric current deep into its heart. Told from the perspective of a slasher serial killer, Chris Nash’s IN A VIOLENT NATURE is anything but what you would expect it to be. Breaking down the slasher genre and its audience’s expectations, Nash and Co have crafted a truly nightmarish hike through the treacherous woods that share as much DNA with Van Sant as it does Vorhees. Like a mangled hand bursting through the dirt, the slasher is ALIVE once again!

Yintah (2024)
La résistance wet’suwet’en se poursuit.
Film le plus essentiel des derniers mois, des dernières années. Dix ans de résistance wet’suwet’en pour protéger le Yintah et Widzin Kwah — source d’eau potable et rivière à saumons. L’on suit Howilhkat Freda Huson, Sleydo’ Molly Wickham, ainsi que les chef·fes héréditaires et les défenseur·es de la terre dans leur bataille et leur quête anticoloniale et féministe contre l’envahisseur canadien qui ne cesse de trahir la décision Delgamuukw et la souveraineté wet’suwet’en en exécutant ses desseins d’extorsion, d’accaparement illégal du territoire non-cédé, de déplacements forcés, de criminalisation des chef·fes héréditaires wet’suwet’en et des défenseur·es de la terre, et tout ça à la solde des multinationales privées extractivistes. Dix ans à réoccuper le territoire, à réaffirmer les droits et la souveraineté wet’suwet’en face aux assauts de l’envahisseur.

Nouilles (2009-2011)
Il s’agit d’une collection de dix courts métrages d’animation de durées allant de 23 secondes à 2 min 45, dont les trames sonores se composent des interventions bruitistes (électro, sifflements, sons mécaniques) de l’artiste Anne-F Jacques. Dans des cahiers spirales et des feuilles sous la caméra, dans un éclairage low-fi, Doucet fait s’entortiller des nouilles abstraites, au trait, délimitées çà et là par des trames de films adhésifs (screentones). Telles des lettres de rançon découpées, vérités et poèmes grinçants et comiques se succèdent en animation de remplacement, nous rappelant que « l’on roche, [qu’] on s’a à l’usure ».
