Six decades ago, Second World War Veteran George Stanley sketched what would become an iconic Canadian emblem. 🍁

Stanley’s simple, yet instantly recognizable symbol was unanimously approved by a committee and his design was officially declared our country’s flag on 15 February 1965.

Today marks 9 years since the end of Canada’s military mission in Afghanistan.

More than 40,000 members of the Canadian Armed Forces served in Afghanistan from 2001 – 2014. This was the largest Canadian military deployment since the Second World War.

158 Canadian service members lost their lives in these efforts.

Today, we remember all those who served – and all those who lost their lives – for our country.

Today is the International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination.

In Canada, we recognize that Indigenous Peoples, racialized communities and religious minorities continue to face racism and discrimination here at home.

Although progress has been made in the name of both equality and equity, there is more work that needs to be done.

At 104 years young, Royal Air Force Veteran, John Hillman has set some lofty goals for the year ahead.

For the fourth year in a row, John will walk his age in laps – 104 this year – around his residence’s courtyard to fundraise for various children’s charities.

So far, his efforts have paid off enormously with over $330,000 raised to date. 🤗

In 1965, an RCAF Argus patrol aircraft crashed into the sea, killing 15 members of the Canadian Armed Forces. They were participating in an exercise off the coast of Puerto Rico.

In 1999, after the Serbian military attacked ethnic Albanians in Kosovo, NATO began a bombing campaign to drive them out of the region.

As part of Operation ALLIED FORCE, Canada committed a total of 18 CF-18 jets. Canadian warplanes made up 10% of the missions flown in Kosovo over the course of the 78-day air campaign.
