Looking for some positivity? We're glad that you dropped by. Because we live in an imperfect world, it's inevitable that someone, whether accidentally, or purposely, may say or do something to hurt us. But the question is, what will we do in response? How have you reacted to someone who has hurt you in the past? Well, being unforgiving is never the answer, and God gives us powerful reasons why we should always choose forgiveness. Here are our top 7 reasons below:
1. God forgave you freely. The Bible says that while we were enemies of Christ, He forgave us. Whenever we confess and repent of our sin, whatever those sins might be, God forgives you without hesitation. (Romans 5:10)
2. Forgiveness sets YOU free. Being unforgiving places you in bo***ge to bitterness, hatred, resentment, and a lack of joy and peace. Rather than set you free, it keeps your mind occupied with what someone else did to you. (Hebrews 12:15)
3. Your debt to God is infinitely greater than anyone's debt to you. What others have done to us may indeed be hurtful, but our sins to God not only hurt Him, it cost Him the life of His only Son: Jesus Christ. (Romans 8:32)
4. We cannot be forgiven by God if we are unforgiving towards others. Forgiving others does not earn our right to be forgiven by God, but when we refuse to forgive others, we reveal that we have not been forgiven by God, and that our hearts have not been transformed by His grace. (Matthew 6:15)
5. Forgiveness restores relationships and produces healing. Although reconciliation may not always be possible, it is the ideal. A lifetime of division, strife, and revenge could be prevented if we decided to forgive each other. (1 Peter 4:8)
6. God empowers you to forgive others. Forgiveness is not God's suggestion, it is His command. And with any commandment, God promises to provide us with the strength and ability to do it (Phillippians 2:13).
7. Forgiveness makes us more like God. Love is the strongest force known to man. When we're willing to love other people, even our enemies, we present a powerful witness to others of just how transformative the gospel truly is. (Matthew 5:43-48)"
