WAYS to improve your COMMUNICATION SKILLS in 2024

1. Body language

Your body language communicates a lot about how you're feeling and can influence the way others perceive you.

2. Be clear and concise

When you're communicating, make sure your message is clear and easy to understand

Leave out the fluff and come to the point. If you confuse people, your message won’t get through. Communicate your message in a clear and easy-to-understand way.

3. Active Listening

Pay attention to the other person and really try to understand what they're saying

Some people listen, while some people are waiting to start talking again.
Pay attention to what the other person is saying and show empathy.
If you make people feel understood, they’ll open up to you.

4. Keep an open mind

Be willing to see things from another perspective and be open to others' opinions.

5. Keep your posture open

Avoid crossing your arms or legs, which can make you appear defensive.

6. Avoid making assumptions

Don't assume you know what someone is thinking or feeling – ask them directly.

7. Make eye contact

Some people prefer talking to their feet. It’s a lonely conversation

When you're speaking to someone, make eye contact and hold it for a few seconds.

8. Be aware of your tone

The way you say something can be just as important as the words you use

9. Use "I" statements

When sharing your opinion, use "I" statements rather than making blanket statements

10. Give turns to talk

Communication needs at least two people.

When you speak, make sure you give the other person an opportunity to say something as well.

Don’t make any conversation the longest monologue in history.

11. Avoid interrupting

Interrupting people while they talk is rude and offensive.

If you both accidentally start talking at the same time, that’s different of course. Simply stop.

Let the other person finish and treat them with respect.

12. Avoid yes/no questions

Yes/no questions are a dead end and can lead to awkward silence.

If you want to keep the conversation going, you need open-ended questions

Ask, and then listen

Parents are asking so many questions about the schools where their children have been admitted to. Its hard to tell how to define a good school. But there should be some minimums.

1. Check the distance between the school gate and the Admin block. The longer the distance, the more likely its good for your child. If it has those long drive way lined with trees, don't even ask about the 2022 results, that's the school.

If you see such a long driveway, your child is being prepared to own a "residence" in Karen or Muthaiga with a long driveway lined with ageing indigenous trees in future.

2. Visit the reception and check if they have those ugly wooden boards bearing the names of all the past Heads and Principals, like the boards they hung in Golf clubs.

If you see such a board, its a silent message that your daughter will one day be a member of a golf club, she will enjoy free Tuesday and Thursday afternoon golfing as children of ordinary Kenyans swing leather chairs in office calling themselves bosses.

3. Look out for schools with ugly uniforms. Its not that I am limiting your choice to Starehe, Mangu or Alliance but you get the gist. Forget schools where students wear nice dazzling uniform. Huko hakuna masomo.

4. Lastly ask around if any of the old students have been arrested or charged on corruption allegations last 5 years. If yes, that's the school. The more corruption suspects the school has produced, the more likely its preparing your son/ daughter to a career "up there".

If the only old boy arrested last 5 years was charged for stealing a cow or drunk and disorderly, run, keep running 😂😂

Now you know................

British and German soldiers fraternising with each other at Ploegsteert during the Christmas Truce, ca. December 24, 1914.
Colourised by .
Today 109 years ago, on December 24; Christmas Eve, 1914, the famous Christmas Truce began along the Western Front.
By November 1914, the Western Front had settled into static trench warfare. The proximity of the trench lines made it easy for enemy soldiers to greet each other. Fraternisation began already then in quiet sectors of the front between British, French, Belgian and German soldiers.
Usually out of sheer boredom, soldiers sang Christmas carols with their enemies. Unofficial artillery truces were organized by individual soldiers visiting the enemy's trench unarmed, allowing the soldiers to eat in peace and recover their fallen men in no man's land.
On Christmas Eve 1914, German soldiers at St. Yves in Flanders decorated their lines with candles and Christmas trees, following it up by singing Christmas carols.
The British soldiers responded by singing carols of their own and soon soldiers from both sides began venturing out into no man's land. This culminated into a full out Christmas Truce between the British and Germans, who all met each other face to face in no man's land.
The soldiers exchanged gifts such as alcohol, foods, to***co and souvenirs. They exchanged pictures of their families, took photographs with each other, held joint burial ceremonies for their fallen soldiers, and small-scale football (soccer) matches were played.
A reported 100,000 British and Germans soldiers along the front participated in the Christmas Truce, which lasted between Christmas Day and New Year's Eve in different sectors.
Fraternistion between French, Belgian and German soldiers did take place as well, though the French and Belgian relations with the Germans were more these than the British, since it was their countries which were being invaded.
The Christmas Truce is without a doubt one of the most remarkable and beautiful events in the history of warfare; a glimpse of light and humanity in one of history's darkest hours.

MYSTERY OF THE ‘FACELESS’ OGOPA DJS

Lucas and Francis Bikedo. Two brothers. They are the owners of the brand and record label, OGOPA DJs.

Ever since they founded the record label in the year 2000, most people know their names, but not how they look like, 23 years later.

Only a few Kenyan musicians, a fraction of entertainment journalists and showbiz industry players have met these two brothers.

Francis, a banker by profession, never attends any event. He manages the business side of Ogopa and makes the bigger decisions when it comes to management.

Lucas, on the other hand, is the man behind the creative section of the label. A former graphic designer at a government parastatal, he mastered his music skills at Homeboyz Entertainment, before he opened the Ogopa label with his brother.

Lucas attends events very selectively. It must be special for him to attend. And when he does, you will hardly pick him out from the crowd, he will either have a hood on to avoid the paparazzis or will mingle with the crowd and avoid the VIP section.

These are not conspiracy theories. Those in the industry will tell you the same. I don’t think there is any entertainment photographer in Kenya who has his picture.

The only faces most people know of Ogopa DJs are that of Emmanuel Banda, their former long serving spokesman, and the red screaming head in their logo.

If you visit Ogopa DJs studios in South B (not sure they are still at the same place they have been for close to 20 years), as a journalist, you cannot go past their reception area.

That’s where all meetings and interviews are done. They don’t even allow just any other entertainment journalist to visit there. They must know you well.

Personally, I have been to Ogopa many times between 2004 and 2015. I have also spoken face to face to Lucas and Francis, but I never got an opportunity to take their photos. They meant it when they said ‘no photos please’.

But why stay away from the limelight yet they have had a major impact in the Kenyan music industry?

I once asked the two brothers this question in an interview. Rumor had it that they had told their parents that they are both bankers. They didn’t want them to be ‘disappointed’ once they realized that they do music instead.

The two soft-spoken brothers neither confirmed nor denied these rumors.

What’s interesting is that even when Lucas moved to Namibia in the late 2000s to form Ogopa-Butterfly, which managed Channel O award winners Gal Level, he still avoided the media there. Only his business partner in Namibia got the media limelight.

I WANT TO DIE, TO GO AND JOIN MY HUSBAND.

If what I have observed in the recent past is anything to go by, leaving inheritance to your children without a proper upbringing is equivalent to zero work done.

And the work of bringing up children should be a shared vision between husband and wife. If the father and mother are pulling in different directions, again, the work done is zero.

Today, I witnessed a land transaction that left a bitter taste in my mouth. I escorted a Chinese friend who went to buy a very nicely developed farm. The seller of the farm was a widow and her three children; two sons and a daughter.

As they were finalising the finer details of the sale, the widow looked very sad, and at some point, broke down and cried. To my shock, her three children looked unbothered. Her two sons were even drinking Heineken while their sister was on savanna, as they concluded the sale.

I got a handkerchief and passed it over to her, to wipe her tears, that were coming out in torrents. Sobbing, the woman turned to me; "My son, God has really punished me for my mistakes. My husband tried to teach and discipline these children, but I would fight him, and spoil them. I thought spoiling them was love. He worked very hard to make us comfortable, sending them to the UK for education, buying properties, and developing this farm. He died 3 years ago, and everything he worked for has been sold. This farm is the only property left now, but these children have been fighting me, tooth and nail, to have it sold too. I want to die, to go and join my husband. I don't want to witness how these children will suffer when this money is finished."

She broke down again, wailing heavily. Her children were busy going round the farm laughing and talking millions with the Chinese, while sipping alcohol.

From their skin tone, fancy accents and refined BBC English, one would tell that these were proper cheese boys who grew up in aircons.

Poor woman!

I have also noted a similar problem in the villages. Selling inherited land has become the leading economic activity. Everyone is selling land to buy motor vehicles and drink the remaining money.

Maybe, you can save your children from becoming alcoholics by selling your properties yourself and drinking the money, to save them from themselves. Leave them with NOTHING so that they may be responsible and hardworking citizens.

Sell those things you have worked hard to acquire and make yourself comfortable . Even if you don't use it , someone else will still use it. This will happen when you finally kick the bucket. Your sacrifices will turn out to be a curse, torturing your children and converting them to playful zombies, frequenting night clubs with cash from selling your property.

Update ~

The Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) has finalized the processing of loans for first year students in universities and TVETs under the new funding model.

Education CS Ezekiel Machogu has called on HELB applicants to ensure that the bank details provided are up to date to ensure that the process is smooth.

The news will now see those who completed their Kenya Certificate of Secondary Education (KCSE) be the first batch to benefit under the new Higher Education Funding Model as introduced by the government.

It will also bring to end tension that had developed between the student leaders and the government as they threatened to hold demonstrations if nothing is done soon.

8 LESSONS people learn TOO LATE in life:

1. Important people come and go, and that's okay.

Unfortunately, the most important people in your life can become strangers overnight.

Fortunately, total strangers can become

the most important people in your life overnight.

This process hurts, but if accepted, it serves to improve the quality and suitability of the people in your life.

2. Your diet isn't just what you eat.

As you get older you realise that your diet isn't just what you eat, it's what you watch, what you read, who you follow and who you spend your time with.

So if your goal is to have a healthier mind, you have to start by removing all the junk from your diet.

3. You have to let people down to be happy.

You and your mental health are more important than your career, more money, other people's opinions, that event you said you would attend, your partner's mood and your family's wishes.

If taking care of yourself means letting someone down, then let someone down.

Your self-love must always be stronger than your desire to be loved by others.

4. Never let rejection lead to self-rejection.

A person who has experienced rejection fears rejection, and a person that fears rejection tends to push or run away before they can be rejected.

In their subconscious mind they have avoided rejection.

In reality, they've been rejected again this time by themselves.

5. Own your responsibilities, own your future.

You're not responsible for your trauma but you are responsible for breaking the cycle and not hurting more people because of what happened to you.

You will never control your future if you let your present be controlled by your past.

What happened yesterday may not be your responsibility, but how you behave today is.

6. Quality over quantity.

Life is about quality, not quantity.

One quality friend gives you more than 100 acquaintances.

One quality relationship gives you more than 100 flings.

One quality experience gives you more than 100 drunken nights.

7. Fairytales will make you unhappy.

Obsessing over the things that society said you're "supposed to do" will kill your happiness.

Don't listen to the fake fairytales of how your life is supposed to be going.

You don't have to go to university at 18, or get a job at 21, or buy a house at 25, or get married at 30, or have kids at 35.

Everyone is different, and your path to happiness will be too.

8. Fun is yours.

If you want to enjoy your life, don't subscribe to other people's definitions of "fun"

Fun doesn't have to mean drinking, partying and socialising.

Fun can be a night in alone, getting lost in a book, a deep conversation, a walk, creating art, playing music, or doing work that you love.

Your fun belongs to you, make sure you define it.

SINCE YOU'RE ALL ASKING QUESTIONS ON THE NEW UNIVERSITY FUNDING MODEL

LET ME DO FOR YOU THE LORD'S WORK.

1. All KCSE 2022 students who scored C+ (plus) and above qualify to apply for a degree course, at a university of their choice.

2. The application requires that you log into The Kenya Universities and Colleges Central Placement Service (KUCCPS) online portal. You will find all the degree courses categorized according to the universities offering them, alongside their respective tuition fees, PER ACADEMIC YEAR.

3. FOR EXAMPLE, those who will qualify to study BACHELOR OF MEDICINE & SURGERY at KENYATTA UNIVERSITY will be required to pay Ksh612,000 per year.

4. The Government of Kenya will offer FULL SCHOLARSHIP to ONLY 45,000 university students this year. You will only qualify for full scholarship if you can demonstrate that you're EXTREMELY NEEDY AND VULNERABLE. The Ministry says they have a targeting tool (sort of a Poverty Questionnaire) that will help them to identify the 45,000.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE TERMS: EXTREMELY NEEDY AND GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP.

They're yet to share with the public the poverty indicators they shall use, but if we now know that if you went to a PRIVATE PUBLIC OR SECONDARY SCHOOL count yourself out of GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP, my friend.

5. A total of 173,127 KCSE 2022 students scored C+ (plus) and above. If you subtract the 45,000 that will receive full Gov't scholarship, you remain with 128,127 students who shall fight it out for the next level of graduated funding, as follows:

6. The Ministry says that students from NEEDY HOUSEHOLDS joining universities will receive GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIPS of up to a maximum of 53% and loans of up to 40%. The remaining 07% will be footed by YOUR FAMILY.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE TERMS: NEEDY HOUSEHOLDS AND GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP.

7. Let's assume you come from a needy household and have been admitted to study BACHELOR OF MEDICINE & SURGERY at KENYATTA UNIVERSITY.

7a. The total amount of money you will be required to pay per year is Ksh612,000.

7b. If the Gov't, through their poverty questionnaire, finds you eligible for Gov't scholarship, you will only receive UP TO 53% Scholarship. Which means, on the higher side, Ksh324,000 of your Ksh612,000 tuition will be taken care of by the Gov't.

PLEASE TAKE NOTE OF THE TERM: UP TO. Again, we haven't seen the poverty matrix to be used to establish the percentage of Gov't scholarship you will receive. It might be 0.1% or 19% or the 53% upper limit.

POLITE REMINDER: Please pray first before applying for the Gov't Scholarship. The President says your chances will increase ten-fold if you pray before opening the application form.

7c. Now, assuming you received the UPPER LIMIT of 53% GOV'T SCHOLARSHIP, you will then head to the Higher Education Loans Board (HELB) offices to apply for a LOAN of UP TO 40% of the Ksh612,000. I repeat.

AGAIN, PLEASE, TAKE NOTE OF THE TERM: UP TO. This means while you will ask HELB to please loan you 40% of Ksh612,000 for your tuition, HELB will not be obligated to give you the full amount. They will also use their own poverty matrix to award you the loan. It might be 0.1% or 3% or the 40% upper limit.

POLITE REMINDER: Please pray first before applying for the HELB loan. The President says your chances will increase ten-fold if you pray before opening the application form.

7d. Assuming your prayers work and you receive the 53% GOV'T SCHOLARSHIP and the 40% HELB LOAN, you will still be required to organize a Harambee back in your village to raise the remaining 7% of the tuition fees, every year.

I have done this breakdown on this notebook of mine which I bought with my own guava money.

PLEASE NOTE: THERE WILL BE NO GOVERNMENT SCHOLARSHIP OF ANY KIND FOR THOSE WHO SHALL APPLY TO JOIN PRIVATE UNIVERSITIES. BUT YOU WILL BE FREE TO APPLY FOR HELB LOAN.

An unemployed man applies for a job as a toilet cleaner at a large computer company and takes an appointment for an interview with the company's manager.
During the interview, the manager told the unemployed person: You have been accepted for the job.
But we need your email to send you the work contract and terms.
The unemployed man replied that he had no e-mail and no computer at home.
The manager replied, "You do not have a computer, which means that you are not present, and if you are not present, it means that you cannot work for us."
The unemployed man came out upset after the doors were shut in his face and he was rejected.
And on his way, he bought with all he had, 10 dollars, 10 kilograms of strawberries, and started knocking on the doors to sell them.
At the end of the day the man earned $20.
After this the man realized that the process is not difficult.
The next day, he started repeating the process 3 times, and after a while the man started going out early in the morning to buy four times the amount of strawberries.
The man's income began to increase until the man was able to buy a bicycle.
After a period of time and hard work, the man was able to buy a truck until the man owned a small business selling strawberries.
Five years later, the man became the owner of the largest food store.
The man began to think about the future until he decided to insure the company with the largest insurance companies.
In an interview with the insurance company employee, the employee said I agree
But I need your email to send you the insurance contract.
The man replied that he did not have an e-mail and he did not even have a computer.
The insurance employee replied surprisingly, I established the largest food company in five years, and you do not have an email, what would happen if you had an email!!
The man replied to him If I had an email five years ago, I would now be cleaning toilets in a company!!.
moral
Sometimes God forbids something from you that you think is good for you, but God Almighty is hiding the best for you. If God closes a door before you, He will open another door that is better than the first.

ARE YOU IN A CULT?

About cults and toxic churches. The truth is no one knows a cult or a toxic church until you have been in one and left. Everyone who is in a church thinks and feels that their church is okay. Reason being that no one wants to believe that they are in a cult. When you see people defending their pastors or their 'men of God' by referring to them as 'my moses' or 'my naomi' please do not be quick to judge them. They will never know the truth no matter how hard you try to drive it to them. The only way they will realize the truth is when they leave the cult and the only way to leave a cult is when God causes an earthquake strong enough to kick you out. Don't joke with cults my friends. Most people get misled by the word cult thinking that these word applies only to some backward, rural, grass thatched church, but truth is, today's cults are multi-million mega churches with influence rising to the highest offices in the land.
When you think of a cult remember they have upgraded, they are sophisticated, have class and more often than not they stand on one individual.
If you observe keenly, those who are against Linus Kaikai fit into the category mentioned above.
But, if you care to know whether you are in a cult or not
Here are 32 signs that you should watch out for -
1. If you find yourself defending your pastor more than you would defend your own parents you are in a cult.
2. If you find yourself spending more time in church than you would spend with your family you are in a cult.
3. If you are contemplating with the encouragement of your pastor, to sell your business to get into 'full time ministry' you are in a cult.
4. If you are a wife and mother and you can cook in church anytime but you can't cook in your house for your husband or children you are in a cult.
5. If you are a husband and you give more to church than to your family you are in a cult.
6. When you start calling your pastor ‘Papa, mama, dad, mom’ and you have no respect for your biological parents, you are in a personality cult.
7. When you can't do anything in your life until your ‘man of God’ your ‘moses/Naomi’ gives you his/her blessing on the matter, you are in a cult.
8. When you can't get married until your pastor approves it, you are in a cult.
9. When offering giving takes more time than worship, you are in a prosperity doctrine cult.
10. When you are told that you have to give an offering to seal the word/sermon/prophecy you are in a cult.
11. When you are encouraged to pray for fire against your enemies, you are in a cult.
12. When those who leave the church/ministry are cursed, you are in a cult.
13. When you are told not to associate with those who left the church, you are in a cult.
14. If the pastors birthday, anniversary or children's birthday or weddings are more important to you than your own family members occasions, you are in a cult.
15. When the church you are in does not visit those who are sick or bury those who die or does it selectively based on how much they used to give, you are in a cult.
16. If your church exalts material success more than anything else, you are in a cult.
17. If Jesus is always mentioned as a rubber stamp to the pastors ideas and doctrines, you are in a cult.
18. When the pastor keeps insisting on ‘touch not my anointed one’ scripture, you are in a personality cult.
19. When the ‘MOG’ keeps repeating the statement, ‘if I be a prophet’, watch out, you are in a cult.

20. When they prophecy, their prophecies fail and they try to cover that up by reading some scriptures, or threatening or diverting attention, you are in a cult.
21. When you feel that to be blessed you must sow a seed to your ‘moses/Naomi, you are in a cult.
22. When you have been waiting for your ‘MOG’ to release the mantle of his or her anointing or when this kind of teaching is emphasized, you are in a cult.
23. You anoint yourself with oil before starting anything, you are in a cult.
24. If you carry the photo of your pastor, prophet, ‘moses/naomi, with you, you are in a cult.
25. When you are encouraged or insisted upon to submit yourself to the spiritual authority of your ‘moses/Naomi, you are in a cult.
26. When you are told that the source of your success is your ‘mog’, you are in a cult.
27. When you are told that the ‘mog’ has more access to God than you do, you are in a cult.
28. When the ‘mog’ makes declarations that it is only from his/her mouth that your breakthrough will come, you are in a cult.
29. When you believe that serving your ‘mog’ equals to serving God, you are in a cult.
30. When you feel that my post is offending you, you are in a cult.
31. When your ‘mog’ cannot accept criticism, so he/she curses those who bring up issues and questions, you are in a cult.
32. If you are told that your pastor saved you and therefore you owe your allegiance to him, you are in a cult.

There are so many other signs to write. Those who are in this kind of environments mentioned above will most definitely not agree with me, but those who have been there or have an understanding of these things will understand that Jesus Christ is the center of everything we do. No man can save you or deliver you. Only Jesus can.
So, to the multi-million mega ‘Cults’ churches and to the small ones too especially in Kenya, a time is coming when all will crumble and there shall be a great cry among the people for they shall be like sheep without shepherds. Then the great shepherd shall gather His own to Himself, for His own know His voice. Ustadh Josphat Cheruiyot Savasci Josphat Cheruiyot

This was Paul McKenzie Nthenge when his church,Good News International in Malindi flourished few years back. He wasn't the shaggy, confused person gracing the screens today. He started this church back in 2003 as a small evangelical centre alongside his wife Joyce Mwikamba.

They then moved to a village called Migingo in Malindi where he set up a church in a walled compound, where his family still lives todate. His wife Joyce helped in preaching as a co-pastor and McKenzie claimed to have power to speak to God DIRECTLY. In his sermons, he claimed to deliver words as given by God himself.

Around 2016, Mckenzie acquired a TV station after one of his followers Kennedy Mwacharo sold his property in Lamu at a throw away price of 20 Million and handed over all the money to him, abandoning his family and responsibilities. The property was valued over 100 Million back then. The man would die two months later in unclear circumstance.

Several cases of people selling their properties and giving McKenzie as they await to meet Jesus would then follow, the recent one being Betty, a air hostess who quit her 11 year job, left her husband and sold her lifelong investments at a throw away price of 7 million, heading with the money to McKenzie's Shakaola church.

Betty is suspected to be among the dead bodies being retrieved in graves in Shakahola.

It is claimed that McKenzie used the money that Kennedy Mwacharo gave him to buy pieces of land in Malindi and Mombasa , two vehicles and started the TV station. Through his TV station, Mckenzie reached so many people and his teachings were basically on end times, evilness of western ways of life like medical services, education, food, sports, music etc.

Mackenzie dwelt on the uselessness of life and stressed on the afterlife. He preached about the second coming of Christ which according to him was so soon - His timeline of the second coming was always less than a year . He also focused on the wrath that awaited those who would be alive by then.

In 2018 Dr. Ezekiel Mutua through KFCB ordered for the immediate closure of the TV station, this was a year after Mckenzie and his wife had been arraigned in court for religious radicalisation , knowing and unlawfully promoting extreme belief system for the purpose of facilitating ideologies to advance religious and social change.

It is unclear how this case ended and despite the orders to shut down the TV station, McKenzie continued with it something that showed how connected he might have been. Remember at a point, he threatened the then Kilifi Women Rep Aisha Jumwa when she questioned some of his teachings and why he kept sick people in his compound instead of taking them to the hospital.

In 2019, McKenzie would again hit headlines when four siblings from Mumias left home for his church and went missing , three of them would later resurface. This, plus the pressure put on him to close unregistered school he operated in his compound prompted him to move from Migingo to Shakaola. He closed the church, sold some his vehicles then bought the Shakaola land in the name of starting a farming venture.

People who went to see him at where his previous church used to be in Migingo were referred to his Shakaola farm and according to neighbours, a lot of people went there but few left. McKenzie had fasting supervisors who would monitor the poor souls in the bush as they starved to death. These are also the same people who work as undertakers for him.

It is claimed that while leaving Migingo and closing his church, he sold the TV station ( equipment) and one of his vehicle to Pastor Ezekiel of New Life and even some of his evangelization tools. Note that Pastor McKenzie is not living with his family in Shakaola, the family live in Migingo village in a gated compound where he had his church and he has been putting up another beautiful family home few distance from Malindi town.

As he brainwashed other people and their children to die in order to meet Jesus, his family is living their best from what the fools give him as they prepare for the 'holy' Journey. Remember most of these people are fasting in the bush day and night , facing the harsh weather conditions and other risks - Mmmmh... let me say there is no risk if they are fasting to die 😭😭
