Importance of Personal Branding as a Developer 💻.
Â
Last week at the "Hello, Cloud!" event, conducted by .srm and , I got a chance to speak on Personal Branding and why it's important as a developer.
Â
Although I had suggested talking on the topic, I hadn't prepared for it much beforehand and had to give it in an impromptu manner. 😅
Â
Here are some of the points I conveyed
Â
👉 Nobody cares. As much as you do! There's always that voice in the back of my head that says what will other think if I put it out there, and the reality is totally opposite. In the beginning, nobody will take a look at what you do. I personally think that this is an advantage because you get the total freedom to experiment and set what's right for you.
Â
👉 Share while you learn. Just because you're a beginner, it doesn't mean you're not allowed to have a voice. In fact, sharing from the start will make you more relatable than sharing when you've already learnt or mastered it.
Â
👉 Wide range of opportunities just from maintaining a portfolio, be it GitHub, LinkedIn or your own website, showing proof of work. It shows that you are the person for what others are looking for.
Â
Here's what I would've added with a bit more proper preparation
Â
🎯 Stay consistent. Regardless of the days when you get no engagement or responses, stay consistent and do what you've been doing. In the short term, there are always difficulties, and if you can be consistent enough to play the long game, you'll look back and be glad that you did it.
Â
🎯 Focus on networking. Building a personal brand doesn't just mean putting out content on your niche. You've also got to interact and engage with people in the same or similar industry and those who are considered top as well. Reach out to them, set up meetings and discuss their ideas and you'll learn a lot.
Â
I've just started on my own journey of content and personal branding. These are the things that I've learnt so far and it's still a long road ahead.
