Newsday has been using the Portesy name for cheap headlines since they used my Dad’s layoff from the Smithaven Mall in 1996 and plastered his face on the front cover like this photo.

My dad came home that cold January day in 1996 and told us he was laid off. He told me “to get my education because they can never take away your education even if they take away your job.”

As many of you close to me know, I credit that conversation with my father for the reason I am a lawyer admitted in New York, New Jersey (inactive) and two federal courts today.

I am as close to a free speech absolutist as there is and believe strongly in the arbiter that is the free press, but also a fair press. Newsday uses innuendo and vague misleading assertions to misrepresent reality whether it is the volunteer firefighters who give up their free time to protect our homes from devastating house fires, our police officers who keep us safe, or our LIRR employees who keep us on the move and out of devastating LIE traffic.

I continue to fight for a better tomorrow for working class people.

You can take the kid out of Selden, but you can never take the Selden out of the kid.
