We made it home safe and sound after what felt like a very long weekend! 14.5 hour drive to a beautiful wedding, wonderful time with family and a 14 hour drive home with a lot of crazy and hard times. Our poor van shows it!

Our last vlog of our Kauai trip has dropped. Everyday we are saying how much we want to be back in Kauai! Not only did we see wildlife that we just learned about in our school program, but we learned a lot as a family and how we want to pursue an abundant life.

The Nivals took a Family Trip to Kauai, during Covid. We were blessed enough to be able to reschedule our trip after the US lockdown and quarantine, and the first day of the trip did not disappoint. We took the boys snorkeling for the first time in a perfect beginner cove at Poipu Beach and ended the day with a beautiful Luau at the Smith Family Gardens.

This trip is way overdue. We had original planned to take this trip with a bunch of extended family flying in from all over the states back in February of 2020. I remember it as if it was yesterday, the fear of COVID was new and full of the unknown. Toilet paper was more precious the gold, and hand sanitizer was about to become high proof liquor in a spray bottle. With family members one by one canceling their flights, and a fear of getting stuck in our hotel room in Kauai for weeks on end, we opted to spend a few hours on hold with the airlines while waiting in the historic shopping lines (our fridge was empty after all), and we canceled our flight the day before we were slated to leave.

So here we are, over a year later, with flight vouchers burning holes in our pockets, we pulled the trigger and re-booked our trip to Kauai. While it was not the exact same plan as before, and our extended family was not able to make it, we are beyond happy that we took the opportunity to go just as things were starting to come back to normal in what is hopefully a post-COVID world.

How are you starting your new year? If there is anything that we learned last year, it was that you choose your tomorrow. We started last year on a positive, grounding note. It kept us strong throughout the year and brought us close as a family, even through all of the struggles that 2020 threw our way. This year, 2021, we are building upon those positive, grounding elements even more. We will stay true to our callings and values, we will grow stronger and embrace the changes that are ahead of us.
