Toughlove is about knowing your boundaries and your responsibilities. You need to be open minded and to look at the other persons perspective. Personal boundaries in your life mark where you end and and where someone else begins. Boundaries, define who you are, protect, what you value and love, show what you’re responsible for and keep you safe.

Toughlove is the courage to take action even when you’re scared. Toughlove is safeguarding your own well-being while also considering the other person. Sometimes tough love means you have to take it on the chin! .

In this world today, we all need to honor our feelings, especially when someone we care about is being hurt. Do you choose to speak up or do you choose to stay silent? Expressing how you feel is healthy, and it takes bravery that comes from inside. It takes courage to acknowledge your fears. I have never known how to love someone in silence. I have always been vocal about the things that touched my heart and loving someone and not letting them know when something is not right, feels like there is no sunshine, no joy, or kindness in your life. Loving is not silent!

Thankful Thursday ✨ Our whole lives are relationships. Love accordingly

Our whole lives are relationships. Belly laughs — the ones you remember years afterwards when you’re driving down a quiet road by yourself or comparing your dim day to the shine of your past — those belly laughs only happen with friends. No one laughs that deep, long, and hard by themselves. That riot of joy takes relating.

The surest soothing of your despair... relationships. How your friend reframed your neuroses to show you that you’re not crazy, you’ve got survival instincts. How they pretend not to notice your inner ugliness — and heal you in the pretending. How they stay so steady with their gaze that the illusions you’ve been nursing dry up and float away.

Our whole lives are relationships. Emergency texting. Solutions that were designed just for you in the bowl of someone else’s heart. The 200 bucks before rent day that saved it all. Persistent love over years that one day melts you into your true self. Relationships.

Helping you pack up your life. On speed dial. Bottomless encouragement. There when you expected them to give up. Taller than your doubts. Seeing what you can’t. Protecting your tenderness. Big enough to fill your abyss. Rescued. Again. Shouting, holding, dancing it out, smoking it up, pitching tents, constructing ideals, directing determination. That voicemail you save. Presence. The things they hand down to you. I got your favourite. I transferred the money. F – that. You got this. You’re more than you think you are — believe me if you can’t believe yourself.

Our whole lives are relationships. So reach out and keep going in. If you have to choose between flying overseas to see your friends and painting the house this summer — choose your friends. Remember the day. Go to the wedding. Read them the poem. Check in. Forget the deadline and working overtime to please people who will never make you feel as good as your real friends. Remember — and do something about it.

When you’re laying on your back watching the stars some very rare night, you won’t be thinking about the car you worked to buy or the blog post you stayed home from the party to write. You’re going to recall the people who got woven into your heart and helped you paint your apartment. You’re going to long for the magic of knowing so much without saying a word. You’re going to wish you had taken more holiday time to hang with them. You’re going to wish you’d stayed up later and extended your stay to ask them more questions about anything at all. You’ll wish you’d gone out dancing.

Our whole lives are relationships. Love accordingly.

Wellness Wednesday Managing Stress ✨

I’m sure you have dreamed about this moment your entire life. The day when the person you love gets down on one knee and says those four words, “Will you marry me?” Time seems to stand still, and all you feel is pure bliss. Happiness. There is nowhere else you would rather be. It is moments like this where you are experiencing being in the “now”. Fully immersed in the present. But what follows after can sometimes pull you away from this. Wedding planning.

Planning a wedding can be one of the most exciting yet stressful times for brides and grooms. From choosing a venue and wedding cake to coordinating the guest list and décor, it requires a lot of your attention and energy. It is at this time where practicing self-care, staying centered, and remembering your “why” is so important. The solution? Mediation and yoga.

What exactly is meditation and yoga?
Simply put, meditation is a mind and body practice that has a history of use for increasing calmness, improving mental and physical health, reducing stress, and enhancing overall wellbeing. We can classify meditation into three streams;

Concentration meditation is focusing our full attention on a word or mantra, an image or our breathe.

Mindful meditation is when we become fully aware of the present moment without creating attachments or judgments.

Guided meditation is when a teacher leads you through the meditation process. This can be experienced through hypnotherapy or yoga nidra.

Yoga is a mind and body practice with over 5000 years of history from India. Various styles of yoga include hatha, power, kundalini, and yin, to name a few. These different styles combine physical postures, or asana, breathing techniques, meditation, and yogic philosophy. According to the Yoga Alliance, “Millions of people use various aspects of yoga to help raise their quality of life in such a diverse areas of fitness, stress, relief, wellness, vitality, mental clarity, healing, peace of mind and spiritual growth.”

Where and when should I practice?
Now, this is the great thing; yoga and meditation can be practiced anytime, anywhere! Firstly, I recommend checking out your local yoga or meditation studio. The benefits of going to a live class is foremost safety. The yoga or meditation teacher is able to address any injuries or aliments that you may be facing and offer personalized modifications for you. A live teacher will also be able to explain the breathing, asana, or meditation techniques and providing instant feedback for an effective or safe practice.

We have so many great yoga studios and instructors in YEG, so I know you’ll find one that fits well with your lifestyle, goals, and schedule. If you are too busy in between dress fittings and cake tasting to attend a live class, I recommend downloading apps such as Alo Moves or Headspace. Both give you access to a large variety of classes and exercises to choose from.

Why Meditate and Do Yoga?
Research has shown that meditation and yoga can help improve sleep, decrease anxiety, and increase muscle tone. These are physical benefits that I am sure every bride and groom would enjoy; however, the real benefit is something is much deeper: presence

As you are busy preparing for the wedding day, your mindset is on the future moment and not here in the “now”. Because of this, it is easy to miss out on the remarkable experiences that are happening throughout the process; like your best friend rocking the karaoke to Spice Girls on your bachelorette, your mom’s face when she sees you for the first time in your wedding dress. It’s cliché, but the saying, “it’s not about the destination but the journey” couldn’t ring more true. You are going to create once in a lifetime memories during this time, so it’s important to practice being present. Incorporating meditation and yoga into your daily or weekly routine will help you enjoy these moments even deeper, keep you calm on your wedding day, and help you live life to its fullest during this special time in your life. Most importantly, meditation will help you come back to your “why”. Weddings are incredible life events, but at the end of it all, it’s not about the dress or the ring, it’s about the person who said those four special words and make time stand still.

Tell me Tuesday with Lindsey and Josh!

My husband and I recently celebrated our first anniversary and I still can't believe how fast time flies! October 8th was seriously the happiest day of my life and I never really knew what people meant by that until we had our wedding. But happy times aside, our first year of marriage has taught me A LOT and it hasn't always been sunshine and rainbows.

I'm going to be real-our first year as husband and wife has been a combination of both the best and probably one of the toughest years for us as a couple. We've gone through a ton of changes, both good and bad, and navigating through those times together hasn't always been easy. But like I said, we've both learned a lot from each other and in the end are a stronger couple for it (pats self on back).

Here are a few lessons I learned from my first year of marriage...

Being called wife is kind of weird...
I remember the first time Josh called me wife. It was on our honeymoon and as soon as he said it we both looked at each other and smiled. As weird as it was hearing him call me wife instead of girlfriend, it was also super special. Cheesy? Extremely.
..But calling him husband, is even weirder
I also remember the first time I called Josh my husband. I was making some changes to our phone plan before leaving on our honeymoon and the lady helping me asked who it was for and I totally freaked out. I ended up mixing boyfriend and husband in the same word and it came out something along the lines as busband? I'm now happy to report that saying husband has gotten a lot easier.

Changing your last name is a real pain in the butt
As much as I love being called Mrs. Smith, the journey to getting there is a long and annoying one. You don't realize how many things have your last name on it until you need things changed! On the other hand, Mrs. Smith does have a nice ring to it.

There's a difference between having a boyfriend and having a husband
You might think this one is pretty obvious but when you've been together for 10 years before getting married, you kind of think that signing a piece of paper won't change anything. And although there's a lot in our relationship that has stayed the same, becoming husband and wife is just different. I can't really explain how it's different but being married just makes you feel more bonded in a way that dating doesn't.

You'll say this to yourself weekly...'OMG, I'm married!?'
That thought will come over me at the most random times. I might be in the grocery store picking up Josh's favourite snack or folding a pair of his pants and it will hit me. I'm married!? It's a funny and amazing feeling that I hope never goes away.

Talking about babies actually becomes a thing
Before I get into it, no I'm not pregnant. But for some reason the thought of starting a family seems like more of a possibility and baby fever can creep up on you.

If you manage to send out your thank you cards before your first year anniversary you're winning
Yep, winning.

There's no 'I' in team
I kind of hate that saying but to make my next point it just works so I'm rolling with it...
I'm an only child and for majority of my life everything has been about me, myself, and I. But when we got married me turned to we and I now have a partner in life which is pretty great. I've realized that I can't do everything on my own and that putting my needs aside for my spouse’s is sometimes necessary.

Being married doesn't mean you have to trade in your lacey bits for granny panties
As Beyoncé once eloquently said, "I've got hot sauce in my bag, swag", the same goes for your marriage. You have to keep things spicy! Whether you've been together for one, twelve, or twenty years, making an effort in the romance department is something you both have to make time for and it keeps the relationship fun!

Looking at your wedding photos happens ALL THE TIME
As I mentioned earlier, our wedding was the happiest day of my life but getting our wedding photos back was a close second. Seeing all of those special moments captured on film was super special so I decided to create a gallery wall with a few of our favourites. I always catch Josh standing there looking at them and he always shows them to everyone who comes over. It's actually super cute. I also look at them often and they're a great reminder of not only an amazing day but the start of an even more amazing journey through life together.

Motivation Monday! Dream Big ✨

Now that you have committed to creating a life together, it is important to start planning for your future. What I encourage you to do, is take some time and sit down together and go through a discovery process. Really sit with this and have fun! I call this Dream Building.

Where would you really like your life to be over the next decade?

How many children would you like to have?

Will you be working from home or out of an office?

How much money do you need to be earning monthly/annually each as a combined house hold income?

How many revenue streams of income do you need coming into your family each month, to live the lifestyle you desired on your own terms?

How many vacations per year would you enjoy having?

Will you own your own home or rent it?

How many homes would you like to acquire over the next decade?

Will you have your primary home and a summer cottage or cabin in the woods?

Will you get mentored over the next decade on how to buy real estate investment properties?

Where would you love to live?

Take the time to write out, in specific detail, what you truly want in your life. When I first started practicing this exercise, I found that I had no dreams to write down. My mind would go blank, just thinking about it and I would begin to feel anxious. At the time, it was a challenge remaining present and giving myself permission to dream big. I had no idea how to get there and where to begin.

After doing this for many years and applying specific daily routines consistently, I began to notice things starting to come together and one by one, my dreams started to manifest themselves into reality.

I love to drive around neighborhoods and visit open houses. Go inside and look around these magnificent homes, even if they are way out of your price range. This one specific routine, done at least once a month, will help to expand your mindset to what is possible and will teach you to think in abundance and prosperity rather than lack and scarcity.

Remember, you only have one life to live and there is no dress rehearsal. If I can be of service to you, then please reach out to me. You will be glad you did.
