Brunswick Stew Monument claims to display the first pot used to cook a famed Southern stew.

"There is a great debate between Brunswick, Georgia and Brunswick County, Virginia. The feud is over which region originated the the concoction known as Brunswick stew. This tomato-based Southern dish was originally made up of squirrel, rabbit and opossum as the base proteins in the past.
The problem is, Brunswick stew has a longer history than that, seeing as historical accounts exist of it prior to 1898—over in Virginia. But Brunswick, Georgia has put up a good fight regarding the origins of the stew. Hilariously, there’s even a second monument to Brunswick stew in town. The one in Mary Ross Park has proudly stood since 1946, when two restauranteurs attempted to solidify the town’s claim to the dish. Yet the stew’s true hometown remains a mystery."

Have you ever been to Gnaw Bone in Southern Indiana? Besides an intriguing name, Gnaw Bone is known for its Mountain Bike Race, which will be held on May 18th this year, but also well known for its three flea markets! Gnaw Bone is on Hwy 46 between Nashville in Brown County and Columbus in Bartholomew County. How did it get such a unique name? It is thought to take its name from the original French settlement in the area, Narbonne, which was named for the city of the same name in the South of France. Narbonne sounded like Gnaw Bone to the Hoosier settlers. If you're going to be in Brown County do yourself a favor and stop by Gnaw Bone.

Did you know Elmer’s glue was first introduced by the Borden Company in 1947. It was created by a team of chemists headed by Ashton Stull, the VP of the company’s chemical division from 1938 – 1968. The Borden Company was originally a dairy business, one of the prime ingredients in this early form of glue was casein, the protein in dairy milk. Borden called their original product Cascorez Glue. Consumers liked the white glue for its ability to spread easily, dry clear, and be washed off school desks and hands. The company had been using Elsie the Cow on their milk products for many years, and she had an established husband named Elmer the Bull. In advertising campaigns, Elmer was frequently fixing things for Elsie, so the company realized he was a perfect fit as the mascot for their glue. By 1951, the company had repackaged the former Cascorez Glue in a white squeeze bottle with an orange twist cap and renamed it Elmer’s Glue-Al. The new logo featured Elmer’s face and name prominently. Today, the product is known simply as Elmer’s Glue and is now made with non-animal products. And while the product line has been expanded to include many specialty glues, the familiar white squeeze bottle with the orange cap and Elmer’s face on it can still be seen in nearly every household and classroom.
