Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut has been named the new Director of the Nigeria National Office by the West African Examinations Council (WAEC).

In a recent statement released on Monday, WAEC revealed that Dr. Dangut previously held the post of Deputy Registrar in the HNO’s office, which is how this declaration was made.

Patrick Areghan’s leadership is replaced by Dr. Dangut as his term is coming to an end this month. The statement claims that Dr. Dangut started working at WAEC in 1998 as an Assistant Registrar II and rapidly rose through the ranks until he was appointed Deputy Registrar in April 2018.

Notably, the Nigeria Examinations Committee commended him for his open administration of exams between 2000 and 2006.

The statement gave a brief overview of Dr. Dangut’s professional history, which included his time as an assistant registrar/subject officer at WAEC Lagos’ Test Development Division from July 1998 to January 2005.

Dr. Dangut was born on October 2, 1967, in the Mbar District of the Bokkos Local Government Area, Plateau State, according to additional information on his history.

He completed his secondary school at the Government Secondary School in Riyom (1981–1983) and the Government Science School in Kuru (1983–1986), both in Plateau State, where he earned his WASC/SC in 1986.

His education continued in the University of Agriculture in Makurdi, Benue State, where he graduated in 1991 with a Bachelor of Agriculture in Animal Production.

His use of information and communications technology (ICT) to improve test development, test administration, and post-test activities procedures over a 25-year period was also emphasised in the announcement.

Additionally, Dr. Dangut is regarded as a leading academic with numerous papers in national and international journals.

Chris Evans, the star of Captain America, has recently wed his girlfriend, actress Alba Baptista, in a private ceremony at their residence in Massachusetts. The couple, who have been in a relationship for over a year, were joined by their closest family and friends for the occasion.

According to a source cited by People magazine, the wedding was "beautiful and intimate," and the couple "appeared to be very happy." The guest list included some of Evans' Marvel co-stars, such as Robert Downey Jr., Chris Hemsworth, and Jeremy Renner.

Evans, aged 42, and Baptista, aged 26, first sparked dating rumors in November 2022 when they were seen holding hands in Boston. The couple made their relationship public on Instagram in January 2023, when Evans posted a video of himself startling Baptista.

In the video, Evans sneaks up behind Baptista and shouts, causing her to jump in surprise. Evans captioned the video "A look back at 2022," along with a series of heart emojis. According to a source cited by E! News in January, Evans and Baptista are "very happy together" and "compatible." The source added that Evans is "very protective of her" and "enjoys spending time with her."

Evans is best known for his portrayal of Captain America in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has also appeared in films such as "The Avengers," "Captain America: Civil War," and "Avengers: Endgame."

Baptista is a Portuguese actress best known for her role as Keira in the Netflix series "The Witcher." She has also appeared in the films "The Lost Daughter" and "Infinite."

We extend our congratulations to Chris Evans and Alba Baptista on their marriage!

With a 2-0 victory over 10-man Sassuolo on Sunday, Victor Osimhen scored his 100th club goal for Napoli, who had been unbeaten to start their Serie A championship defense. Meanwhile, Juventus held on to a 1-1 draw with irate Bologna despite a penalty debate.

15 minutes into Napoli’s first home game since winning the league title in front of their supporters for the third time in June, Osimhen scored his third goal of the year from the penalty spot.

And in the 64th minute, shortly after Maxime Lopez was dismissed from the game and Giacomo Raspadori fired a penalty into the seats after hitting the post seconds after kickoff, Napoli’s captain Giovanni Di Lorenzo ensured the team would score six points in a row.

“I think we played well, kept hold of the ball, we’re happy to have won the match in front of our fans,” said Di Lorenzo.

“We played well as a team. We’ve started well and the attitude is right so we’ve got everything for us to have a good season.”

The return of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia, who made his season debut an hour into a lopsided match at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona, set up Di Lorenzo’s first goal of the campaign. Kvaratskhelia made his imprint just three minutes after stepping in for Italy forward Matteo Politano. He scored 14 goals and assisted on the same number of goals previous season.

The Georgian moved a few steps forward before sliding Di Lorenzo in for a straightforward low finish despite being mobbed by defenders close to the penalty area.

Despite the fact that it is still early, Napoli’s new coach Rudi Garcia has a difficult act to follow in new Italy manager Luciano Spalletti, who was the mastermind behind the Scudetto victory.

The next week, Napoli, who shares first place on the standings with Verona and AC Milan, will face Lazio, a team that has yet to register a win after losing 1-0 to promoted Genoa.

Mateo Retegui, an Italian attacker who joined from Boca Juniors last summer, scored his first Serie A goal as Lazio, who finished second last season, were defeated at home.

Nigeria was ranked eleventh worldwide in terms of Internet pe*******on and seventh in terms of mobile phone usage, according to data released by the Nigerian Telecommunications Commission on Thursday.

At the two-day Emerging Technology Forum for the Telecommunications Industry’s opening ceremony in Abuja, Prof. Umar Danbatta, Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, said this. The EVC said that the global data acquired by the NRI team showed that digital transformation was a necessity for the entire world in order to maximize the social and economic impacts of the digital era. The EVC was represented in his remarks by the Head, Spectrum Database Management, NCC, Abraham Oshadami.

The NRI, he continued, looked at 131 economies’ performance in four areas: technology (infrastructure), governance, people, and effect.

He said, “Nigeria is a telecommunications powerhouse, accounting for 82 per cent of the continent’s telecom subscribers and 29 per cent of the continent’s internet consumption.”

“Our country ranks eleventh in the world for Internet pe*******on and seventh in mobile phone usage.

“The NRI team’s global data shows that digital transformation is a global imperative for maximising the social and economic effects of the digital era. Despite these remarkable metrics, our Network Readiness Index (NRI) ranking for 2022 of 109th out of 131 countries is both humbling and challenging.”

Danbatta went on to state that, as representatives of social and economic development in the country, prioritising network preparedness is not only a strategic need but also a mission.

“It can create new inequalities, which can hinder the ability of younger generations to engage in the digital economy, but it also remains a powerful way to do more with less at all levels of income. Formal education is evolving, and metrics are important to support informed policy making.”

Following a coup that has provoked warnings of regional military intervention, Algeria claimed to have dispatched a senior official to the neighbouring Niger on Thursday to explore a diplomatic proposal.

Lounes Magramane, secretary general of the foreign ministry, “will be visiting” Niger on Thursday, the department announced on X, formerly known as Twitter.

The military-installed government’s Prime Minister Ali Mahaman Lamine Zeine, Defense Minister Salifou Mody, Foreign Minister Bakary Yaou Sangare, and Justice Minister Alio Daouda were among those he met, according to Niger’s Voice of the Sahel radio station.

The trip was launched by Algeria’s foreign minister Ahmed Attaf a day earlier in an effort to find a diplomatic solution to the issue, in which Algiers vehemently rejects any use of force.

The elected president of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS), Mohamed Bazoum, was overthrown on July 26 by members of his security. ECOWAS has vowed to use force to restore him to office.

The group has emphasized that any involvement would be a last resort and that it prefers a diplomatic resolution. The bloc has also imposed trade restrictions against Niger.

Magramane’s visit is another step in Algiers’ “unceasing efforts… to contribute to a peaceful solution to the crisis in Niger, avoiding increased risks for this neighbouring and brotherly country and for the entire region”, the Algerian foreign ministry said.

President Abdelmadjid Tebboune of Algeria, which shares a 1,000-kilometre (600-mile) southern land border with Niger, has repeatedly warned against using force because it would pose “a direct threat” to his nation. There will be no solution without us (Algeria),” he emphasized. We are the initial group impacted.

The largest nation in Africa, Algeria, borders Mali and Libya, both of which are embroiled in protracted wars.

Niger, after Burkina Faso, Guinea, and Mali, is the fourth country in West Africa to experience a coup since 2020.

Any military action against one of their neighbors would be seen as a “declaration of war” on Burkina Faso or Mali, according to the juntas in those countries.

On Thursday, former Nigerien president Mohamed Bazoum was imprisoned following a military takeover directed by the nation’s former commander of the presidential guard, Abdourahamane Tchiani. French President Emmanuel Macron has requested his release.

In Niger, a former French colony whose elected president Bazoum was overthrown in a military coup in July, Macron similarly called for the restoration of democratic rule. The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) ordered the formation of a standby force to restore constitutional order in Niger and stated that they will consider all possibilities for a peaceful resolution to the conflict.

Politics Nigeria recounts that after the coup, France and the European Union suspended their financial and security assistance to Niger, while the United States issued a warning that its own help to the nation would be at risk.

With French troops stationed in numerous regions of West Africa as part of its anti-terror operations, the coup has seriously harmed relations between France and Niger.

“If we hadn’t got involved with operations Serval and then Barkhane, there’s no doubt Mali and Burkina Faso will no longer exist, and I’m not sure myself if Niger will still exist.”

Macron said that the French actions, which effectively stopped the development of caliphates a few thousand kilometres from France’s frontiers, were sought by African states.

Bola Tinubu, the president, instructed the team of Islamic ulamas who had come to see him in the presidential palace on Thursday to go back to the Niger Republic and carry on the conversation with the military junta.

After the meeting, Muhammed Idris, the minister of communication and national orientation, spoke with a State House correspondent.

The problems between Nigeria and the United Arab Emirates (UAE), which have hampered travel and the issuance of visas, have been called for an expedient resolution by Nigerian President Bola Tinubu.

Last year, the UAE ceased granting visas to Nigerians after Emirates Airlines halted service because it was unable to remit money from the West African nation due to forex restrictions.

Emirates stated at the time that it had failed to advance after “making considerable efforts to initiate dialogue with the relevant authorities” to come up with a workable solution.

On Thursday, the president stated that the issue needed to be fixed “immediately” and added that he was prepared to “personally” get involved.

“We should look at the issues as a family problem, and resolve it amicably… We must work together. We need to agree on core aviation and immigration issues,” he said.

He stated as he welcomed Salem Saeed Al-Shamsi, the UAE ambassador, to the state house in Abuja, the nation’s capital.

With the Nigerian government, Al-Shamsi claimed to be working on 24 agreements, adding that “these are small issues, all within a family, and they will be resolved.”
