Ventilator is the weapon to win the war against Corona.

Prof. Sarath Ranganathan, a board member of Lung Foundation Australia and director of respiratory and sleep medicine at Melbourne’s The Royal Children’s Hospital, said:

“Without access to ventilators many patients who might survive the infection will die.”

1️⃣ What is a ventilator and how does it work?
➡️ A mechanical ventilator is a machine that’s used to support patients with severe respiratory conditions.

2️⃣ When would a patient go onto a ventilator?
➡️ A normal breathing rate is about 15 breaths a minute, if the rate gets to about 28 times a minute, then this is a signal that ventilation may be needed.

3️⃣ How soon might a patient need a ventilator and for how long?
➡️ A life-threatening condition can develop called acute respiratory distress syndrome (Ards) that requires ventilators to deliver smaller volumes of oxygen and air, but at higher rates. If patients develop Ards they will be in an intensive care unit for weeks and they’ll die without ventilators.

Coronavirus and COVID-19:

Who is at higher risk?

> According to the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), eight out of 10 deaths in the U.S. from the new coronavirus have been in people 65 and older.

> An estimated 6% to 29% of people 85 and older who get COVID-19 will require intensive care.

Here are some reasons why:

1. Older adults are more likely to have long-term health problems that can put them at risk.
2. People’s immune systems tend to weaken with age, making it more difficult for older people to fight off infections.
3. Lung tissue becomes less elastic over time, making respiratory diseases like COVID-19 a particular concern for older people.
4. Inflammation in older people can be more intense, causing organ damage.

Myth 1: COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in areas with hot and humid climates

From the evidence so far, the COVID-19 virus can be transmitted in ALL AREAS, including areas with hot and humid weather. Regardless of climate, adopt protective measures if you live in, or travel to an area reporting COVID-19. The best way to protect yourself against COVID-19 is by frequently cleaning your hands. By doing this you eliminate viruses that may be on your hands and avoid infection that could occur by then touching your eyes, mouth, and nose.
