100 years ago, Eric Liddell, later a missionary to China, won an Olympic gold medal in Paris!

His best event was the 100-meter race, held on a Sunday. He refused to compete because of his Christian faith - not wanting violate the Sabbath. He instead ran the 400-meter race on a Wednesday and got a gold medal. His record stood for 12 years!

Hudson Taylor was born on May 21, 1832, in Barnsley, Yorkshire, England. (Happy birthday!)

Many mission principles and practices that are widely accepted today were frowned upon when Hudson Taylor first applied them in the China Inland Mission (CIM). He learned Chinese languages and even wore native Chinese clothing so he could better reach out to Chinese people.

CIM (today OMF) also accepted Christian missionary workers of all protestant denominations and all walks of life - that legacy continues till today:

May 19 is the International Day for the Unreached, focusing on unreached people groups with no access to the Gospel.

Hudson Taylor founded China Inland Mission in 1865 to share the Gospel with the Chinese people in inland China, obeying Jesus’s call to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28:19-20).

Today, the work of reaching out to unreached Chinese in big cities in China continues as many of them have not heard the Gospel or know about Jesus Christ.

On the night of Day 2, Dr Patrick Fung shared about stories of Hudson Taylor and China Inland Mission (CIM).

Good morning, everyone! We’re on Day 2 of the Trans World Chinese Baptist Mission (TWCBM) conference. Last night, the speaker, Dr Chuang, encouraged us to share stories using creative methods, even suggesting movies as a format. Excitingly, Dr. Ong also acknowledged our project in his remarks! What orchestration of messages to build up for Dr Fung’s sharing of the vision of the movie project tonight! Please keep praying for the Holy Spirit to inspire and touch the hearts of the audience throughout the conference.

Last month here on Facebook, Soo Loh (Half Crown Media CEO) and Ken Haron (Half Crown Media Director for Partnership & Development) shared special moments from their trip to Southeast Asia. It was a time to meet with other members of the Half Crown Media family for vision and strategy meetings, and to speak to different groups about the Hudson Taylor film project. We thought it would be nice to bring together Soo, Ken and Half Crown Media Board Chair, Dr. Jennie Fung, on Zoom to share some brief reflections about that trip.

“When is the movie going to be out?” At Missions Fest Vancouver last weekend, that was the most often asked question. I would reply, “IF GOD IS WILLING (with emphasis), it will be out in 2025 Spring. Currently, we have raised over $1 million for the movie production, and we need a few more million in the next five months to do that. It needs God’s miracle. Please pray.” We have often said it is an impossible project to start and quoted Hudson Taylor that, “God’s work done in God’s way will never lack God’s supply.” Our part is to continue to share the vision for the movie and invite people to join in this journey of faith until God changes the course to a new stage of the project. While talking with people about the project, it became more evident that the news needs to reach more people who might wish to support it. So, I invite you to help spread the word about the movie by simply asking in a conversation, “Hey, have you heard there is a film being made on Hudson Taylor?” Let that question develop into a conversation in whatever way God leads. We will leave that to God to work on it. If you would, invite them to explore further on our website (www.halfcrownmedia.com) or here on Facebook. We’re so thankful for those of you who join us in prayer for the Hudson Taylor film project. We never want to forget that it’s God who makes all this possible, so we humbly bring our requests before him, and give him all the praise for how he is working to take this project where he wants it to be. This month, we’re excited to have Half Crown Media CEO, Soo Loh, share our prayers and praises with you! For those of you who want to copy/paste these into your prayer app, or print them, here is what’s on our hearts this month: * As film production projects are long and complex, we have many critical decisions to make. Please pray for wisdom and guidance at each juncture. * Praise God for new connections to churches and individuals in the film industry who are passionate about this project. May God give us discernment as we seek to learn and leverage their experience in movie production. Please pray that God continues to connect His children towards His work. * Pray for upcoming meetings in Hong Kong, Australia and Korea, and for the Spirit to compel those who have caught the vision of this project to help extend our reach. * Praise God for generous donations that have contributed towards Phase 1 of the film’s $7 Million production budget. We still have about $6 million to go and continue to seek God’s providence. Thank you for praying!

Today we’re sharing Kwag, DoYun’s thoughts about the Hudson Taylor Movie. As well as being a deeply committed supporter of missions, she’s also a council member with OMF South Korea. (OMF International is our partner in the Hudson Taylor Movie project.) I especially appreciate her thoughts that this is a movie that focuses on the work that God did through Hudson Taylor. It’s to Him and His work through others that we give praise. We’re so appreciative of Kwag, DoYun’s support of the movie and sharing her thoughts with us!
