It wasn’t that long ago that Wisconsin Supreme Court elections were snoozers with low voter turnout. Now after a raucous decade in Wisconsin politics, that era is over.
Judge Janet Protasiewicz won the statewide office this spring in the most expensive state judicial race in U.S. history.
Now that Judge Janet is on the bench, what can we expect from the new court?
Dylan Brogan () caught up with Professor Howard Schweber, who says that recent moves by the U.S. Supreme Court have made our state court even more important.

It’s been more than eight years since Tony Robinson (pictured above) died. The teenager was shot dead by a Madison police officer who responded to a 911 call to Tony’s apartment on W***y Street.
The police department cleared the officer of any wrongdoing. The district attorney declined to prosecute. Tony’s mother, Andrea Irwin, settled a civil lawsuit against the city in 2017. Her attorneys called it the biggest settlement in Wisconsin history for a police shooting.
But Tony’s grandmother, Sharon Irwin-Henry, still wants her day in court.

Next time you’re at Olin Turville Park, say hello to new park staffers Donna, Nancy, Emma, Janelle, Midnight and Dorito. Don’t be mad if they don’t talk back, though. They’re goats.
They belong to Greg Haak and Brooke Hushagen of HaakHagen Goat Grazing. The idea is that they’ll naturally eat their way through the park, cleaning up unwanted vegetation and reducing the need for herbicides.
Producer Molly Stentz tracked down the goat wranglers to learn how it’s working.

The Madison School District wants to cut high schools honors courses over concerns they’ve become segregated. The district fails students of color at an alarming rate. Honors classes are disproportionately white. They’re rolling out a plan to drop standalone honors courses, in favor of “Earned Honors”, where all students take the same classes, but can opt for additional work and gain an honors credit on their transcript. Some students and staff say that the current Earned Honors program isn’t rigorous enough. Some parents fear their kids will miss out if honors classes go away. Will parents of high-achievers yank their kids from the district and send them to nearby suburban schools instead, destabilizing Madison schools? That’s the fear. But is the status quo working? The Madison School Board is set to vote on the plan on December 19th. We speak to School Board President Ali Muldrow about her concerns and how the Board might vote on this big policy shift.
